100 PALETTE IRON ARTIST CHALLENGE: THE FAQ
11 years ago
Tip Jar! (do not pay for commissions this way, please!)
First, let me start off by giving you all a huge THANK YOU for joining me on this silly little project of mine, which has been doing a great deal of good not just to relax me into doing art for fun again, but also expand my artistic skills that I think will be of huge help for future projects. Already I've done a good number of pics for both here and ceegee of both my characters and those of other people, which has also given me a chance to draw characters of many shapes and sizes and whatnot, some I have little or no experience in drawing before. So for all this and more, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
With that all said, though, we ain't done yet! Still plenty of palettes left for those wanting to join, after all! But I've noticed people have had a few problems getting in on the action or understanding how this works, which is why I'm making this list of Frequently Asked Questions to help you guys out.
FAQ List (Type Ctrl+F[PC] or Cmd+F[Mac] and use numbers for quick access!):
1) What is this "100 PALETTE IRON ARTIST CHALLENGE" thing, anyway?
2) What are these 100 palettes you speak of? Who made it? And can I do it, too?
3) Hey, neat! So what are your rules for your own Iron Artist Challenge?
4) Where do I go to request or commission you for this challenge?
5) I don't like the Palette I picked, can I ask for another? Can you add an additional color on my pic?
6) What kind of characters will you draw for this?
7) Will you draw my couple for this challenge?
8) So is this free or do I have to pay?
9) Is there any incentive for me to pay you more than just the $5?
10) Can I use my commissioned pic as an icon?
11) Five bucks is too little! What if I want to offer you more money for all your work? Or maybe some other means of payment besides money/with Paypal?
12) I'm new, I don't have much knowledge of your characters or you've run out of characters I am familiar with, but I want to throw in for a "freebie". What can I do?
13) What characters have been drawn/what palettes have been picked already?
14) How long will you be continuing to do these? How long will it take?
15) What if I want a regular commission?
16) Can I post the pic on my own FA (or other) account?
17) Can I help you out by promoting this palette challenge of yours?
18) I have another question that is not on this list!
1)What is this "100 PALETTE IRON ARTIST CHALLENGE" thing, anyway?
The long and short of it is, it's a set of small bust-size drawings (or whatever I can fit in my smallish canvas), each one colored with one of 100 sets of very specific palettes.
2)What are these 100 palettes you speak of? Who made it? And can I do it, too?
The palettes, which were found and assembled by FallenZephyr, can be located here. I hold no claim on these at all and the template is for anyone to use, so if you want to try your hand on this as well, by all means go ahead! All I ask is you respect the creator's wishes and link to the template rather than re-upload it on your account. That's just the sensible thing to do.
3)Hey, neat! So what are your rules for your own Iron Artist Challenge?
My rules are simple: you give me a palette number and you give me a character to draw. The pics will be single-character (though I may be lenient with including a second character if small enough, like the case here) Safe For Work only and will be bust shots.
4)Where do I go to request or commission you for this challenge?
Well first, you read this whole FAQ so you don't have questions :|
Second, you ask for a palette number and character, be they mine or yours HERE AND ONLY HERE: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5903411/
Seriously, DO NOT REQUEST ANYWHERE ELSE that is not the designated journal, or they will be ignored. Not even notes UNLESS you specifically tell me it's a private commission and wish to remain anonymous. Notes are for giving me your paypal info or any other information you think I might need regarding the commission.
I will update should I open up a new journal for posting requests/commissions for the Palette project.
5)I don't like the Palette I picked, can I ask for another? Can you add an additional color on my pic?
Absolutely not. The ONLY time you will be allowed to change your palette choice is if the one you picked has already been reserved for someone else. Otherwise, the very first Palette you give me is the one I am working with, no exceptions.
Also, none of the Palettes are getting altered for anyone. If you want to pick a palette that includes colors that better match your character, you are free to look up the list yourself here. Otherwise, trust me in being able to make your character look good with whatever you give me.
6)What kind of characters will you draw for this?
Any character you want, either mine or your own or someone else's, even some I'd normally would not draw in my regular commissions, such as humans and mecha and the like. This is just as much as an excuse to broaden my skills at drawing characters as anything else! Keep in mind, though, that all pics will be made Safe For Work, so if the character is typically nude with parts exposed, these will either be artistically covered or omitted entirely, so keep that in mind before asking for a character like this.
One thing, though. As the Palettes challenge is made to be a stress-reliever, for this project only, I WILL ONLY ACCEPT VISUAL REFERENCES, no written. Exceptions will be made if I have drawn your character before or if the character is fairly simplistic, like "a frog with a hat" or "a cross between X and Y" and the like. I will also refuse to design a character for you for this challenge; ask for a regular commission if that is what you want.
7)Will you draw my couple for this challenge?
Can I draw two Palette pics for you, sure. Together? No. *ONE* character per Palette challenge ONLY, with the exception being if a character has a significantly small and iconic "pet"/partner/alter ego/etc. of some kind (examples here and here). If you're uncertain if your suggestion for a character with tiny partner is fair game, you're free to ask ahead of time to make sure I'll allow it.
8)So is this free or do I have to pay?
Well, that's where it gets a bit tricky.
IF IT IS ONE OF MY OWN CHARACTERS, you may request for any of my own characters for free and as of now, you may request *as many as you want* (which I call "freebies"), provided the character has not been drawn yet for the challenge and there are palettes left.
However, IF IT IS YOUR CHARACTER, SOMEONE ELSE'S CHARACTER OR A CHARACTER FROM YOUR FAVORITE SHOW/STORY/GAME/MOVIE/ETC., that will be considered a commission, which is PAY WHAT YOU WANT (with a $5 minimum) for every character you request (Paypal only, to be paid up as soon as possible). Note that you may ask for as many characters you wish so long as there are palettes to choose from (and you can pay for them, of course. You may not pick a character I have already drawn for the challenge with the exception of characters with alternate forms, such as a shapeshifter or Transformer and whatnot. NO REVISIONS SAVE FOR SIGNIFICANTLY MINOR ONES (left to my discretion) will be done for this challenge and poses will be of my own choosing, so keep that in mind before you throw in.
One more thing. In the event that two people end up requesting for the same palette and one is for a commission, the commission will take priority and the freebie will either be put in another palette or drawn at a later date for something not challenge-based should there not be any more palettes left.
9)Is there any incentive for me to pay you more than just the $5?
There is now! Anyone that offers up $20 or more as payment for commissions can request to get a "Wallpaper" version of your Palette pic. The Palettes by default are fairly big, so it'd be a matter of you giving me the format you want your palette to be (default is png, can be jpg), but they can and what would it be a wallpaper for (Computer? Smartphone? Tablet? Up to you!). Additionally, payments that are $50 or more will get you a 5% discount on one flat colored pic of your choice (though you have to remind me somehow!)
10)Can I use my commissioned pic as an icon?
Of course! In fact, if you request it, I will happily send you over an icon-sized version of your palette pic free of charge!
11)Five bucks is too little! What if I want to offer you more money for all your work? Or maybe some other means of payment besides money/with Paypal?
Well, that's sweet of you to say! Well the easy answer would be "get more than one Palette commission", though if you just want to donate, I have a tip jar here and an Amazon Wishlist (sorted by category) here....though uh, really, guys, no need to think you have to pay to give me your gratitude, you guys are already awesome doing what you're already doing. (maybe more comments? --bah, just kidding, you guys do what you want, I ain't forcing you!)
That said, I am actually thinking of offering up some bonus incentive for people who offer up extra for their Palette pics, of which you're free to comment on here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6136519/
I do sincerely apologize for the lack of a non-Paypal option, though I am open to suggestions on what else can be used as an alternative. As for a means besides money in general to pay with? That *reeeeeeeally* depends on if you are a friend of mine/I trust you enough, as well as what the offer in general is. I MIGHT consider trades as an option, but I'm going to be veryveryvery picky as to who I trade with due to personal reasons. Anything else? Again, depends, though if you are a complete stranger to me or I have reason not to trust you, please do not ask.
12)I'm new, I don't have much knowledge of your characters or you've run out of characters I am familiar with, but I want to throw in for a "freebie". What can I do?
Glad you ask! As I have a *LOT* of characters, be they originals or fan-characters for other canon universes, many I've not drawn in forever or never posted here, it's easy to not know what I have on hand. So for those wanting to get a cute surprise in the form of an older than dirt character (that is new to you!), I offer up this following list (just say "character from (x) setting" to get your request through):
ORIGINAL CHARACTER UNIVERSES:
-Team Biozone (My main "core" cast/mascots/"fursonas". Example: group shot, a meme-tastic group shot. UPDATE: Still missing Speed and Quicksand!)

-OTHER (guess an obscure fandom I am in that I have characters for that I'd love to draw again, win all the happy points from me!)
13)What characters have been drawn/what palettes have been picked already?
The always-updated checklist with the list of both finished pics and numbers in reserve for future pics can be located here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5893819/. Do check that list out to keep yourself up to date of my progress!
14)How long will you be continuing to do these? How long will it take?
I will keep doing these until all 100 palettes are done, of course! And I'll try to do these as quickly as I can each one done in order of request/commission (aka "first come, first serve"), though I may make exceptions to extreme circumstances. Do keep in mind that I might take a bit longer with some Palettes than others due to the complexity of the pic in question. There will also be times when older/pricier commissions or RL issues will take priority over Palettes, So long as demand for these remains strong, my plan is to have all 100 of these finished before the end of the year.
15)What if I want a regular commission?
Those I will be accepting at a very, very slow pace since I want to focus on my own works/older commissions/the Palettes for a bit first. When I'm ready to take in a new commission of this nature, I will let you guys know in a future journal.
16)Can I post the pic on my own FA (or other) account?
So long as you make sure to CREDIT ME and LINK BACK TO THE ORIGINAL PIC, go right ahead!
17)Can I help you out by promoting this palette challenge of yours?
Oh PLEASE do! If you have the chance to make a journal advertising this challenge, by all means, go ahead and do it! Every little bit helps!
18)I have another question that is not on this list!
Then feel free to comment in this journal (AND ONLY ON THIS JOURNAL, PLEASE) for whatever questions you may have. NO REQUESTS HERE, though. You know where those go by now, I hope :)
