Part 62
>E (Permanent bladder shrink)/B (Check on Phio)
You almost follow the Yaggan Alpha out onto the streets, to make sure that it couldn't hurt anybody else, but you are simply not strong enough to take it on by yourself, especially with no magic with which to pierce its thick skin. You take a sharp breath, hold it for a second, and breathe out. It's a simple technique, but it clears much of the adrenaline from your body in one sweep. Able to change your focus again, you turn to the crouched form of Phiodel and approach him. You give a quick glance over to Tilvamido, and he approaches the barricade leading to Mora's patient room, knocking politely on a wooden shelf to let everyone inside know that it is safe. You don't notice how dark everything is in here, night having completely fallen, thanks to your natural night vision. Any previously lit torches were either smothered by the reckless Yaggan before you arrived, or extinguished by your extra-powerful water attack.
Phiodel had been flung across the room, and hit a wooden table hard enough to bust it and nearly everything that had been placed upon it. There were splintered stakes, broken bottles, medicinal liquids and powders and a very worrying amount of blood. You swallow down the lump in your throat that had formed at the image of Phio's mangled body- MOVING body, surely not dead- and crouch down besides him so that you can gently roll him over, away from the crash site, and onto his back. Seeing his front side, however, causes an even bigger lump to form, one that you can't quite push back down, forcing you to deal with the faint taste of bile. Phiodel has a massive gash crossing his chest where the Yaggan's tail connected with him.
You allow yourself only three seconds of pure panic, then you lurch up and look for Mora's medicine cabinet, on the other side of the room. Inside are the tools of Mora's trade; powerful herbs, squeezed essences, some thread and a needle for holding flesh together, a spreader tool for pulling it apart if needed, the equipment necessary for what Mora was capable of. You grab what you can and then return to Phio's side, not caring that the elderly healer never taught you how to deal with such severe injuries, and not willing to wait for any help. Your mind feels like it is on fire as it tries to decide on what to do first. You take a cleaning salve, meant to keep wounds from becoming sickly, and try to apply it to the gash, but the lion reacts violently to the treatment, thrashing about despite being unconscious. The salve only caused him more pain, and you lock up in confusion and despair.
(Attention: -20%)
"Anamaki!"
It was the voice of the person you had come here to help, the old healer, Mora. The elderly bobcat comes up behind you and slips her paws under your arms, hoisting you up despite her advanced age. The woman still had plenty of strength, that was certain. She only lifts you up as far as what it would take to get you back on your feet, and it causes you to emerge from your terrified stupor. Then she lets go and turns her attention to the battered form of Phiodel.
"What happened to him, child?" She asks of you.
"He," you respond, "got hit by a bigger Yaggan. It's tail hit him right in the chest and he was flung into the table... I-is he...?"
Mora shakes her head, her eyes never leaving the Lion. "He is alive, holding on. Anamaki, I appreciate your help in defending my home. There will be many injured tribesmembers coming tonight, but I'm afraid you will not be able to help me any further. It would be for the best if you went home soon."
Tilvamido approaches the two felinids huddled together around the table, slowly followed by a few injured civilians who did not want to be trapped in one room any more.
"Healer, if you need any further assistance tonight, I will gladly offer my services."
"You may do as you please, so long as you do not do these people harm." Mora did not seem to mind the offer, simply shrugging it off. Either she didn't know about the green-cloaked man's magic or regarded herself the superior healer regardless.
Tilva places his paws underneath Phio's back and lifts him up, carrying him toward a bed in the connected room, now free of barricades. As they disappear into the darkness, you realize that the screaming outside has stopped. The Yaggan raid was over, they had hunted down all the food they would need for tonight. You are hungry, thirsty, tired, and Phiodel was now in the best care that the Wenta village could offer- well, the only real care that it could offer. You want to stay and help, despite Mora's claim that you would be unable to- and looking at your own paws, you realize that she may be right. Despite the healing lessons she had given you long ago, you were quite badly shaken by the sight of Phiodel's wounds. But surely you could at least do SOMETHING?
Oh, perhaps not... maybe you should just go to bed. It's been such a long day.
