Ok you know me, I’m not one to complain about TV shows or anything of the like, since… my life is pitiful enough, I don’t care if Sailor Moon Crystal does not exactly match mine or anyone’s expectations….. HOWEVER, something did happen recently that I feel is worth discussing…. For me anyway, so it’s probably really stupid for normal people.
Anyways, I’ve been watching Digimon Xros (AKA, Digimon Fusion in the west), I mostly do it for the sake of a possible future review (Estimated release date: 2034) which means writing down stuff, and this seems like a pretty bad season, even Digimon Frontier is way better in my mind (which upon re-watching was a lot better BTW), but I’m sticking with it, hoping to reach a good point. I have reached episode 15, where the heroes land in a city full of angel digimon. It seems like a utopia, however it turns out to be a police state where the smallest felony is punished with prison, while vandalism or violence mean the death penalty. The only one who’s kind enough to help the heroes is Lucemon

For those who don’t understand….. he is the digimon world’s version of LUCIFER! Immediately I was flabbergasted at this! Lucemon was a main antagonist in Digimon Frontier, and now he’s a regular character who’s meant to be good?! Well, the story went about sluggishly, and predictably the heroes were send on trial where they then fought back and defeated the judges, while not killing them, as a proof that they are not evil. Lucemon then makes a speech about how peace and justice should not be things that are attained through violence and punishment, asking the Digimon that they all have to rebuild their kingdom now!
Then the crowd cheers Lucemon on and they suggest that he should be the new King. Surprised, Lucemon accepts the position. This shocked me.
Now, I’m not a smart person, and I don’t know a lot about the bible, but as far as I know, Lucifer was an angel cast out of Heaven for disagreeing with God’s way of ruling over the world. I live in a very religious country, so I feel pressure that I should act offended at the idea of depicting Lucifer in a positive light….. Which is probably why I feel VERY positive about this! This anime just retold that famous biblical story in a different way. I already hear the offended voices:
“THAT’S NOT HOW IT REALLY HAPPENED!!!”
Yeah, of course…. Angels are not Digimon, this is not a 100% accurate and faithful retelling from the get go! However, I feel like this is a very interesting spin.
Lucifer rebelled against God……. So what if his reasons for doing so were right? What if God truly was a tyrant? What if Lucifer truly was fighting for freedom and felt like God forgot what love is?
Again, I hear people saying that that’s not how that was, but if it truly was like that, wouldn’t Lucifer be the good guy? Maybe I just love this kind of “what if”, because I despise the white and black world views that a lot of religions push down the people’s throats. This is why I actually really liked the episode by the end! I even discovered new positives!
I judged Lucemon, because of what he did in the earlier season, but in reality it wasn’t the same being, it just shared the same digimon SPIECIES! Meaning that I was harshly judging someone for something like that. I felt good having learned a lesson…………………………………. Until today……….
Today, I watched the next episode, there Lucemon obtains the kingdom’s greatest treasure and immediately uses it to cause death, darkness and death to everyone…………. I……. slapped… my … face……….. WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!?!?!?!?
Yep, that’s right! They told such a great and creative story, and they SHAT ALL OVER IT!!! ARGHHHHHH!!!!! I do not understand!!!!! What sort of brainless and moronic team worked on this?!?!!?!? They wrote a great twist, and then they went 180 on it!!!! What sort of stupid movie would do that?!
Darth Vader: Noo, I am your father!
Luke: No… that’s not true!
Darth Vader: Yeah, you’re right, I’m not your father!
The worst part is that this not only nullifies any positive thing I’ve said, in a way it means an entire reversal of them!
That harsh police state stuff? Well, turns out that was a good thing! Think about it, Lucemon only managed to destroy this place because he took over for the dictators, so if they stayed in power, things would remain in peace!
Or how about me expecting Lucemon to turn evil? TURNS OUT I WAS RIGHT! I was foolish to start judging someone based on their actions and not their name/species!
God DAMMIT am I ever angry now! This is the thing… when I don’t like a TV show, and yet still end up watching it, I start being desperate to find positives, I cling onto anything I can, and yet, often when I do that, certain shows will step onto my hand, seemingly to trollishly laugh at me. They got me, they made me expect good from them, so they backstab me. This is how I’ve made Yu-Gi-Oh GX my most hated show of all time! Digimon Xros Wars…. Is not quite there yet, but … oh man, did it ever make a huge leap into that direction………….
That is all, you may call me stupid now.

I agree with you about that Lucemon thing, I haven't watched it or Digimon for a long while but yeah that sounds like a real wallbanger. That's a term from TVtropes, great site you should look it up if you haven't. Basically it is when you see something so stupid it makes you want to slam your face into the nearest wall.
As for the Lucifer thing that's a whole different topic but there are a lot of works of fiction that explore that very idea, that maybe he was the good guy. It is always kind of a touchy subject though because quite a few Christians tend to have this knee jerk defensive reaction towards God. I once say this thing showing how many people God kills in the bible as opposed to how many Satan does. Satan only kills maybe a few dozen while God's body count in the bible is in the tens of thousands. Christians claim God is loving and all that but he does some really dickish things, like at one point when Moses is crossing the desert after escaping Egypt one of the people following him complains about how stupid and pointless their journey was or something, anyway God tells Moses to have everyone following him who is still faithful to steer clear of that one complainers camp. God then kills the guy and his entire family by making the earth swallow them whole. And that is far from the last time he kills a guy's entire family just for having the nerve to complain.
I appreciate the note about God's body count haha. Christianity really wants that black and white world view when things are really gray, as is the world!
(Also, Frontier is the BEST of all Digimon series BY FAR imo lol...)
I will be honest: I used to feel that Digimon Frontier was the worst season of digimon.... even overlooking the fact that Xros Wars is SOOO BAAAAD, I will say that upon rewatching Frontier, I did warm up to it. It's the very start and the end that I really felt were bad, but the earlier middle part was actually pretty enjoyable. I should have not been that harsh on it.. in my stupid review... aye!
Savers was the worst for me. It really picks up later but it's just so awful for a while. Plus it just... uses so much stupid stuff, like having to punch Digimon to get energy or whatever. And even though some of the stories were good they were just so cliche :\ I did like the MMO based off it, though!
I will say I have yet to watch Xros Wars though. I looked at it and just went O_o;
I respect your opinion on Savers, I've enjoyed it because it made many things work. I usually hate the stereotypical dumb protagonist, but Masuru really worked for me, he was stupid, but had a real warrior spirit, and noone would argue that he is stupid, heh!
I had to look up 'Kumamon'. I was thinking of Monzaemon for a second but I knew that that wasn't the right name, but couldn't think of the right name either lolol. I've actually never watched Digimon's English version, other than the US movie because I liked the soundtrack haha. Man, they chose some strange names for the English version of Frontier it seems O_o Like, usually they change names to make them easier for English-speakers, but stuff like "Fairymon" became "Kazemon"??? And Kumamon seems just as arbitrary to an English speaker as Chakmon XZD
I do like the naming conventions they use for the human characters' names. Instead of coming up with something completely different, they actually make 'nicknames' based on their Japanese names. And they're usually pretty catchy and creative, too. Like 'Junpei' becomes J.P. and stuff :) So they can retain their original names but not be difficult for English-speaking kids to learn.
Masaru was pretty cool, actually (aside from having to punch Digimon). And I'm with you -- the stereotypical idiot hotblood is usually annoying. But he was a bit different than the normal "I'm the best fighter but I'm such a good guy!" type they usually use, as he skipped school and picked fights and was an overall delinquent lol. I think that made me identify with him more, since he was rebellious like that.
The other two DATS members that started alongside him, though, were terribly cliche and boring. I really WANTED to like them, but I absolutely couldn't. Their backgrounds revealed throughout the series were slightly interesting, but their personalities were so dull and expected I just couldn't get into them, and t actively frustrated me while watching. I did like Ikuto, though!
Oh and I loved Yushima because, well, mustache. And Satsuma was cool, too, albeit not any less generic than the others. But he had a deep voice and was handsome so I gave him a pass (those things matter!)
And the animation/art quality was just... pretty bad for the first 8 or 9 episodes and that kinda turned me off, too.
Overall Digimon Savers was pretty good. I think with different or better characters, and without the shaky start, it could easily have been my second favorite after Frontier.
BTW I've been hearing rumors that there's supposed to be a new season of Digimon next year based on Digimon Adventure, but with Taichi & pals being in high school...? And the original Digimon Adventure and movies are getting Blu-ray remasters or something. Sounds kinda like the treatment Sailor Moon got this year. You know much about this? I don't really follow Digimon so I never know what's going on XZD

A new digimon season? That's news to me!
Seems wasted yeah? I didn't think they would go to far in talking about morals and stuff, but I guess if you can take one good from Lucemon, it is questioning authority....but takes a dump and turns into I"M EVAVL! Anything with Lucifer means evil, no doubt has to be some way, otherwise you don't want crazed lunatic Christians to come out of the wood work to say "Satan is gloried in a Japnaese Childen's TV show! rePendt or burn in boiling Chiken soup!"
I was gonna answer right away on your note, but the Internets was going bad, so it was good that you came out ranting about this here.
I think it would've been better if they handled the character by saying first peace and justice should not be handled with a ironfist where Order rules absolute; there is no Chaos. But then slowly become more Chaotic going into the next Episode and he shows to become a Demon-mon thingy- because he is all Chaos. Angel to Demon- yah?
I know, fiction can be a passion after all. Sometimes though you have to let it go and just think, "They weren't on their game", or "Had to cop-out to avoid controversy". I dunno, maybe they think the idea I thought was too old fashioned, but having some sort of tale with a lesson(in a bajillion variants) for children's show is good.
