The Festival Fete event that took place at Emerald Square went well, even if only six of us went and there was barely any crowd. I've decided that we're going to try it again because there's another event being held by the same group.
The location will be at the New England Institute of Technology East Greenwich campus at 1 New England Tech Boulevard, East Greenwich, RI. (MAP IS HERE) We shall attend on both Saturday, August 23, and Sunday, August 24, starting at 12 noon on both days.
The event's website is here: http://www.festivalfete.com/East_Greenwich__9_1-2.html
This is just off of Route 2, so there are lots of restaurants nearby. It will be up to those in attendance to decide if we do anything afterwards.
And now, the copy-and-paste from the previous journal...
This is being planned as an outdoor public fursuiting event. I have permission from the organizers and they know that we are coming in costumes. This is your chance to show off your fursuits (a.k.a. wearable artwork) and interact with the general public. If anyone does come in fursuit, the most important thing is the safety of our fursuiters. I'm sure that those of you who already go fursuiting know their own limits, but we will take precautions. Bring bottled water. Take frequent breaks. Retreat to your car if there is a problem. Anyone who is not a fursuiter will be a handler. Handlers are responsible to protect the fursuiter from heat exhaustion, bratty children, stumbling over things and little kids, etc. We shall assign handlers to all fursuiters.
The second most important thing is to be on your best behavior. Nobody knows what Furries are, so we must present a friendly, positive image to the general public. You are representing the entire Furry Fandom while you are out anywhere. Don't use bad language, and certainly don't do anything that can be interpreted as sexual.
If anyone asks who we are, your first answer is NOT "We're furries!" ("What's a furry?") The easiest way to describe us is that we are fans of cartoon animals. More generally, we are fans of the idea of animals behaving like humans. We like those animal characters that you see in cartoons, comics, advertising, video games, puppetry, mascots, etc. Despite what the media thinks, Furry is NOT all about the fursuits. We are artists, writers, craftspeople, performers and their fans. And best of all, we make our own original content outside of the mainstream media.
