DARK HEART NEWS
heres a basic rundown of the ceranids,i'll try to collect as much info here with out tl:dr ing with too much bio
before i do however, id like to note that all im about to write is for the ceranids native to their home world.Ceranids have a strong ability to quickly adapt to their environment, they can adjust their bodys to survive in almost any habitat, and within mere generations will have become perfectly suited to their new home.
ceranids living off their home world have adapted in a miriad of colors and new adjustments. So if you want to make one and are aferaid youll mess up dont be worried, wether you want to make one for astetic,or biologic reasons, its all good
first off,Ceranids are marsupials discovered on the planet ceran. they are somewhat similar to a kangaroo, though there is nothing on their planet resembling them in any lower form
the basic rules of ceranid physiology
~all ceranids are hermaphrodites
.the "males"and"females" of the species are incomplete hermaphrodites, their opposite genitalia is either nonfunctional or atrophied,Ceranid hermaphrodites come in many shapes and sizes mostly determined by hormone production, alpha hermaphrodites are the biggest and strongest, forming the bull of the race
all have a second clitoris at the bottom of their genitals as well
example of sorts
h-ceranid http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2006248
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2012239/
~all ceranids have vents in their ribs
while the size and function vary from breed to breed, all ceranids have tube like holes coming from their lungs.Six total,3 on each side In some cases the lungs are capable of absorbing oxygen from water, and the tubes form gills, in others the tubes are used for pumping wrmed air into fur, or for cooling off the body
~ all ceranids have four toes
while the shape and size of the toes and claws may differ, all ceranids have four toes. the two smaller outmost toes are fused together making a double claw. The biggest toe is larger than the others, and the innermost toe is opposable. most breeds of ceranid can use their feet like hands if they need too, good for gripping branches or food
~all ceranids have "leaf" talis
the biggest function for damn near every breed of ceranid is their multi functional tail,in the most well rounded breed, the spadetails,it can be used as a shade, support,a weapon,a paddle, anything the owner can think up
the tail itself is flexible and strong, and the flap is nothing but muscle, capable of twisting into almost any position
almost all breeds have at least one large eyespot on their tail

FUN FACTS
all ceranids have a clitoris at the base of their genitals
all ceranids have functional mamaries, males and herms will go into sympathy lactation if near babies or pregnant females or herms for too long
native ceranids arent used to processed foods, if they ate what we ate theyd either get fat really quick, or get sick
most ceranid hair and nails has a second tone at the tips, this is a sign of damage and wear, base haircolor dosent seem to match the color of the dammage, though they tend to blend well
most ceranids dont have fur, save for around their tail or patches on the pubic area or elbows/heels,they do however have very short translucent body hair similar to a peach
ceranid behavior in the wild is often deterimned by their quantity, the more there are the more civilized they get
Alpha herms often form the leaders of any group, beating and raping the competition into submission
without the prescence of an alpha, ceranids will tend to be more social with one another, males will also become more aggressive sexually
being noted as a female is an extreme offense to all native ceranids both male and hermaphrodite,it is taken as a challenge for sexual dominance, and will either get you in a fight or scare off the offended ceranid
some ceranids survive via numbers while other are territorial hermits, this seems to be determined by the habitat
Ceranids born offplanet tend to develop mentaly the same as we do,they are fully capable of learning and thinking at the same rate as a human,if not a little faster
they still tend to be very emotional and fact acting,as their instincts tend to be strong
,offworld ceranids tend to have faster growing nails and adapt unnatural color schemes to deal with climbing metal and concrete and to blend in with the wider pallete of a urban environment.Off world ceranids will often abuse their cromatophores in the name of fashion and tend to sport elaborate designs on their skin changeing them at the whim of the current trends
here is a collection of ceranid facts
i need to retool this at some point, but it has alot more details that i didnt list here

poison gems are very similar to leaftails in body structure, save their legs are longer and more skinny, their fingers and toes are longer and thinner as well, and end in large flattened out toepads, think frog, the idea for the came from poison dart frogs to be honest
common coloration of a common(leaftail) ceranid would generally concist of 2 to 3 colors matching their surroundings ,and one to two extras that dont, the more natural colors would form the base colroation while the others would make patterns and accents(keeping in ming they can change their patterns and hues at will)
poison gems tend to have a very loud colorscheme, very bright colors to serve as a warning to would be predators
the toxins they secrete effect the nervous system of any offenders as well as cause conciderable pain
they arent hermits, but they arent entirely social either, they dont need to be in groups for anything beyond mating, though they will socializr for the sake of it, even with other breeds of ceranid, though mating out of breed is both hazardous and ineffective
grasslands ceranids tend to eat tubers and fruit they happen to find along with any small game they happen to catch, their bogeest and most risky part of their diet is larger animals usually double their size, they hunt in packs, much like lions, wolves hyenas, and other pack ambush predators, so their social structure is very tightly knit
they are very group related and will get uneasy if left alone
the breeds are all actually of the exact same genetic makeup XD ceranids develop rapidly to adapt to their environment, withing thre or four generations a ceranid population can have adapted to live in total comfort within their environment
social adaptation is more dependant on an indiviuals behavior, much as we have people unwilling to learn or unable ,so do they, more headstrong breeds or genders will be more prone to violence in an alien environment and need to be handles acordingly, one of my ceranid chrs ,Hyrall found his niche in the miltary and was more capable of learning there than in the labs like nae,nae on the other hand while cautious learned rather rapidly over the span of a few years,he still speaks in a pidgeon dialect of universal however, hes somewhat awkward with words
basically think of taking someone from one continent and dragging them somewhere compleately foreign, how they handle the culture shcock is compleately different depending both on them and on their surroundings
also on the same note, offworlders(ceranids born and raised off of ceran) tend to fit into their society just like anyone else might
so depending on where theyre from its all good
