Anti Drama-Llama Movement - Phase 2: CONTINUED
16 years ago
Welcome to the Journal of OtakuMan24 Game Player. Hope you're ready for rants and ravings on video games and other miscellaneous topics.
I've been saying that in a while I'd be bringing this thread back to the forefront of my Journals, and now that I finally got some big things taken care of, here it is!
First, an update on Big Lots (B.L.) whom I rescued back in December. After staying for a while at the vet and no word from anyone trying to find him, the vet put the little guy up for adoption.
Almost immediately, a family came along seeking to adopt a cat, and the little guy found a new loving family who will love and care for him. So the story of B.L. is now over and the little guy is safe and sound in a new home.
But while B.L. is now safe and sound, there are still plenty of FA members who are facing some tough times because of the economy and life in general. If you have some money to spare, these folks could really use the commission money and would be more than happy to accept commissions for very reasonable prices so they can get by.
And if they can't take commissions or aren't artists, then they would be glad to accept any donations you would be willing to offer.
So when you can, please support your community and help those in need.
Here are the folks in need and where they stand in terms of danger:

I'll be editing and referencing this journal over time to keep up to date with everyone's status. Hopefully the community can all gather around to help everyone here. Let's hope we can make a difference.
Now in addition to getting help from the community, I am also providing resources for Unemployment Benefits and Food Stamps from all 50 States in the USA. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about other countries to really help as far as benefit programs outside the USA go. If there's a strong enough demand, I will do my best to find and post information for outside the USA as well.
In the meanwhile, here are the 50 US states listed alphabetically and the links for various benefit programs.
Alabama
http://www.dhr.state.al.us/page.asp?pageid=159 - Food Stamps
http://www.medicaid.state.al.us/ - Medicaid
http://dir.alabama.gov/uc/ - Unemployment Insurance / Benefits
Florida
https://www2.myflorida.com/fluid/ - Florida's Unemployment Internet Direct Claims
http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/ess/ - ACCESS Florida, which is the hub page for Food Stamps, Temporary Cash Assistance, Medicaid, Workforce Innovation (Job search help), Emergency Food Assistance (provided by America's Second Harvest Feeding America, which is nationwide)
Oregon
http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/ - Dept. of Human Resources
http://www.oregon.gov/DHS/assistanc.....odstamps.shtml - Food Stamps
http://www.employment.oregon.gov/ - Unemployment
This will take a little while as I go through each state, so bear with me as I update bit by bit.
I'm going to search and draw attention to this journal to try and make a hub for everyone to rally to.
Here's for the best!

It's great you're advising us of other people's situations.
AWESOME!
Thanks for the tip man!

Although no icon on that though.
But that does give me an idea on how to free up space for those that are lower on the needs pole.
I can reserve the full icon w/ name, : iconname : for those in the most dire situations, like Extreme and High. Then for Great, I use : nameicon : and finally : linkusername : for those in the Good or Success sections.
Thanks for the Protips, brah!

Not to mention, if they're in a financial situation shouldn't they be spending less time on FA and more time looking for a job? Or is that just me?
As to how a homeless person can access a computer, there are two ways: Friends and the library. Thankfully, most people at risk of losing their homes have local friends that can help out. And if they lose their homes, they can use their friends PC to take care of business online. Another option are public computers at libraries where they can do their business online. Many libraries have internet connection for those who would be deprived otherwise.
To answer your second question, it's just you. While spending time on FA may seem rather frivolous, it all depends on what you DO on FA. Some people, especially artists, use FA as a means to make extra income through commissions. Granted, FA as a SOLE means of income is not a good idea since commissions are not always stable. But if they receive commissions, they need to be able to receive, complete, and send commission transactions and artwork.
Now if they were to just camp out on FA all day, read journals, post comments, as opposed to job searching when NOT handling commission work, then you may have a point. But it's still important that they also play a role in the community, since for many people it's not the artwork that makes others want to watch/support them, but the people themselves!
And if they weren't part of the community, we wouldn't care as much.
So hopefully, that answers your questions.
S'aright? :)
~Otaku-Man
Not to mention commissions aren't a great, consistent form of income. The time spent organizing and completing commissions could be better spent on other things if you're actually at risk of being evicted or something.
If I have a huge homework assignment due tomorrow and I don't think I'm going to get it done, I don't write a series of journals on FA about it... I sort the situation out to the best of my ability.
The impression I get is just that some people need to get their priorities straightened out... I'm sure that I'm making a sweeping generalization, but that's just me.
I also kind of felt bad that Kiv got angry at you for trying to help him. In fact that's how I found this in the first place, and that's the sort of impression I got of anyone who would be in a similar situation. Like I said, I'm fairly certain I'm stereotyping a lot of people.
My skeptiscism aside, I'm sure that there are some people who actually do everything in their ability to improve their situation and use commissions to compliment that, so for those people I'm completely wrong. But eh, I'm skeptical about everything when it comes to furries. Don't mind me. It's a good cause and I haven't seen anyone do anything like this before, so keep it up.
And also, sometimes there's nothing you can really do about your trouble until some time later. Job searches can be exhausted. Businesses might be open past 5 PM. And when playing the waiting game before you can make your next move to resolve an issue, sometimes talking about it makes people feel better. (Especially if they then advertise commissions to get extra income which also keeps them busy during this period of time)
I admit that some of this relies on an Honor System that people are being truthful and honest with the community as a whole. That they are in fact doing everything in their power to try and get out of this situation. But sometimes things can be really tough out there, and it is not fair to judge people now since circumstances can be different for everyone.
Kiv's reaction did kind of surprise me since I had no idea commissions would have been that offensive to him. And yet, I later notice him post a journal saying how it'd be nice to get something back for the work he does. If he did commissions, I'm sure he could make a ton of cash since hes a really good artist.
But oh well. Water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned.
In the meanwhile, I'm just doing what I can to help.

l mean l dun really know if l will be loosing a place to live....though mom has talked about kicking me out and l have no job so that would suck......(though think she was kidding)
but really my problem would be raising money for medical bills......dont have insurance and parents cant afford much of anything now-a-days so cant help me at all with.
So lve been trying to look for work and sadly not so much work available close by me that l qualify for except......2 jobs......which lm hoping l get.....since l need to pay to go to the doctor and a possible surgery l would need......
I hope you get well soon. Especially if you need surgery.
~Otaku-Man

Best of luck and good health to you.

I have never done commissions before but I just lost my job and my mom isn't working either, we're supposed to be moving into an apartment soon but her tax refund wasn't as great as she thought it would be and mine went towards the deposit on the car. I just need some money right now to help with the expenses, I'm setting up a journal with prices and my paypal. I just got hit with all of this when my mom checked her banking about a half hour ago >.< and now I'm trying everything I can D: I'm still kind of new to all of this x-x
If things get worse, I can bump you up to Great Risk.
Good luck, and I hope things turn out for the better on your end.
~Otaku-Man
I wouldn't take him off of the list, though- maybe just bump him down a level.
I'm not gonna say he's doing at-ALL- fine until I hear about the next court date with their father. . .

I'll go ahead and make the update.

Despite all the drama that swarmed him, I don't believe that anyone deserves to be homeless.
I'll have to be a bit more tough with him and make sure he takes care of himself (as opposed to others taking care of him), but I don't want to leave him completely alone.
(That make sense)
Anyway, I'll remove him from the list once I'm done working on the current raffle.
