Chances.... NOT wasted?

<this contains general spoilers to Digimon Xros Wars…. And is a remarkably stupid topic, you have been warned!>
Perhaps some of you recall, but towards the end of July I wrote a journal entry about a specific thing that I saw in Digimon Xros Wars:
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5975268/
http://farel13.deviantart.com/journ.....nces-471375839
Since that time, I’ve watched the show to the end, but even if the second half wasn’t as bad, it was still very boring and lame….
Among the lame things was Yuu
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb.....an_Amano_t.gif
An EVIL child that used Digimon for violent battles. I …… really didn’t like him. Now granted, this season had worse villains, but still! Why does this “Anakin Skywalker” thing appear in fiction??? He’s meant to be a pure innocent angel, whom just turned evil by influence. Also his Digimon was…. Shit…
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb...../Damemon_t.gif
Literally!
Seriously, he is based on Sukamon:
http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb...../Sukamon_b.jpg
I knew no one would ever have Sukamon as a digimon-partner, but it’s ok when it’s covered in metal????
At the season’s end Damemon died, and… Yuu didn’t do much anymore.
The season ended, and was sadly given a sequel! I was so tired of it these characters that I watched anything else, so that I could to escape it, but I knew Digimon Xros Wars 2 would rear its ugly head eventually and I would have to endure the sequel.
I began watching the show and it’s pretty bad…. The main character, Tagiru, is incredibly annoying and even Gumdramon, whom I was slightly hopeful about turns out to be just as obnoxious!
http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb....._Gumdramon.png
The episodes this time are rather set in the real world and not the digimon world. Digimon influence human children and do evil things. Soooo kind of like at the start of Digimon Savers….. my FAVORITE season…. But it wasn’t fun, because of the annoying main character, the boring secondary character, Taiki, the protagonist from the last season …....
Strangely… the only character to surprise me positively was… Yuu! Yes, believe it or not, but that bore is back as the third protagonist. Sooo…. This time it’s 3 boys? Weird, huh? I complained previously that if the authors can’t write female characters, they should not even try! BUT… I did not expect them to actually raise the white flag and literally do that….. oh well! Yuu sort of changed…
http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb.....nters%29_t.gif
Loosing Damemon made him more mature, treating the whole digital world thing pretty seriously and responsibly. He doesn’t seem nearly as bland as before, and perhaps it’s just the other characters being boring/annoying, but this made him stand out to me. Also, and here’s the best part… he HATES Tagiru, the new protagonist! So… we are really dealing with a show that this time has the guts to have someone point out the stupidity of the protagonist and question his actions without being a villain! SUCK ON THAT YU-GI-OH GX!!!!!!!!!! But … Damemon is gone, so Yuu can’t fight, so I have to stick with the characters that I don’t like…… of course. And… where am I going with this?
Well…. I’m writing a journal, because there was an actual episode that seemed unique to me, and I wish to write about it: It’s the 4th episode of the series
http://digimon.wikia.com/wiki/Honor.....omon%27s_Smile
Soooo, in this episode, the child to get influenced by a Digimon is Miho Sudou, a girl whom only got the 8th spot on an exam (in Japan, exam results are published on the corridor and there’s a real ranking list), she gets angry that her efforts don’t show, and wishes that the other better students would vanish. A dark aura then appears in the corridor and grabs her.
http://sta.sh/02dsnmb8gfoz
In the meantime Yuu is just sad, he misses Damemon, and is envious that Taiki still has Shoutmon, and more so that someone as stupid as Tagiru has a digimon. Then Miho shows up
http://sta.sh/022n5g5elrlt
She confronts him about his jealousy. She seems to know everything that Yuu thinks,
http://sta.sh/0292oy1dpnre
but they’re interrupted and she vanishes.
The next day in class, one of those “superior students” walks up to the blackboard and freezes, he twitches…..
http://sta.sh/0nugtljdt3e
his eyes white out, he gets thinner
http://sta.sh/0248ih3nxjrn
And then THIS happens!
http://sta.sh/066449ksilu
HOLY CRAAAAAAP!!!!!!!! I …… I ……. I did not expect this kind of stuff to happen!!! DAAAAMN!!!! I … I definitely saw more sick things in my life before, but I was up till that point in full sceptic mode. Dead certain that this series would not offer me anything other than generic trash, and here it delivers me flashbacks of that one Batman episode with Poison Ivy! <Shivers>
The students panic, the teachers try to help, but the student is petrified…… and soon, one more student becomes like this!
Tagiru jumps into the digital world (or rather Digiquartz…. It’s too hard to explain!).
http://sta.sh/07ed1ljn6gc
Yuu follows Miho after she left, and notices that these incidents happen whenever she walks next to a classroom, and besides, she’s just having an eerie smile, while everyone panics. He finds her in the library where she proudly proclaims that now… she’s the number one! She made it!
She talks about how she always was number 1, but then a lot of students from other elementary schools got transferred and they’ve surpassed her, that’s why… they had to go! NOW……… damn!!! Some will say that that’s a pretty simplistic motivation, BUT THAT’S THE POINT! It’s a show for kids, so it has to be relatively simple! But the older seasons showed that even if it’s simplistic, it can still be a great driving force for stories! And let me remind you, the first Xros Wars had NOTHING like this! So to get someone with an explained and understandable motivation for actions is so refreshing! OH HOW I MISSED THIS!!!!
Miho then talks that she knows how Yuu feels, Yuu is familiar with jealousy. He… can’t say a word, he knows it’s true. Then various things happen, but we get evidence that Miho is directly connected to Blossomon!
http://sta.sh/01aqnyo96dku
Ok, this digimon species never looked entirely cool or thrilling to me, and we’ve seen some sicker things in this episode already …. But still: DYAM!
http://sta.sh/01pjuopv57w0
A fight escalates, but Yuu is helpless, lacking a Digimon, so he doesn’t even try to run away. Miho then tells him with a devious smile that she will get rid of Tagiru for him, preparing a huge thorn to pierce him through.
http://sta.sh/0ma0nzoh4lc
Yuu screams …….. It was pretty thrilling, but I still insists, if anyone deserved to meet such an end, it was Tagiru, so I couldn’t be fully scared of him dying!
Some stuff happens, and we get a scene where Yuu says that he indeed was jealous of Taiki and Tagiru, but he knows he lost Damemon of his own fault, so he has to be strong, and get through all of this alone!
http://sta.sh/0294lal98ee3
Then a golden burst of energy flows through him and shines bright, so bright that it makes Miho snap out of Blossomon’s control
http://sta.sh/02cgc9jhdvra
I could talk a lot more in detail as to what else happened in the episode, but I feel like it’d be too much rambling…. Everyone returns home, the students are back to normal, Miho doesn’t remember much, but she apologizes for what she did. She also happily declares that she’ll stop complaining and just work harder next time, and Yuu… he has new founded motivation to continue on.
THE END
Allow me to go through the positives and the negatives:
POSITIVES:
-Very positive surprise-
OK, I do wish to say that this was not the best thing I ever saw, but….. holy crap! The original Xros War had over 50 episodes and it was such a horrid blob, lacking nearly any substance, and for a while it felt like I’d get the same here, but this episode brought me so much enjoyment! It was not just a stupid moronic episode where there’s a big evil digimon army that need to be defeated,… the end! You know… LIKE OVER NINETY PERCENT OF XROS WARS?!?!?! ARGH!!! …. Here there was a “monster of the week” plot, tied to the story of a child, which related to things that a main character went through…. That’s A LOT when compared to the NOTHING we had previous season! There’s some good character moments here…. I still don’t like Tagiru at all, but I’m happy that I’ve got Yuu!
-A story telling-
This was not perfect, but there was a connection between Miho and Yuu. I will admit that I’m slightly doubtful if Yuu really was the only person around Miho to be jealous of something, so that she’d desire him to join her (jealousy is implied to be the energy that Blossomon feasts on), but I can maybe buy it that him having owned a digimon before would be tempting to that big flower.
-Damemon doesn’t show up-
Now you might argue why this is a positive to me…… wouldn’t it be cool if he came back in this episode to save his master? NO IT WOULD NOT!!!! <smacks your head with a frying pan> This episode is about Yuu’s jealousy, which he overcomes!!!! If he had his digimon save him in this episode, then he would really come off as a weakling, since Damemon left him telling him to be strong. SURE, Damemon comes back the very next episode (I had to check, I won’t let them “Lucemon-me” again… BASTARDS!!!), but it feels a lot more acceptable than if it happened here and now! He learns to live without him.
NEGATIVES:
-Anti-heroes-
Yeah there’s EVIL digimon owners this time around (whom I didn’t mention to focus on important things)
http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb.....4f/6-57_06.png
And yes, they actually have a token girl, whom… is sort of like Elmyra from Tiny Toons, WHATEVER! I get it that they’re selfish and do this Digimon hunting thing just for kicks, but during this episode they wish to attack Blossomon even if Miho gets killed in the process, while smiling! That seemed WAAAAY too blatantly evil. Even if they would just talk about it in a passive way, wonder if they should do it and then did it, it would still be a lot more natural than just killing a human being with no hesitation. This implies they’re full blown villains, which I wouldn’t approve of. You can’t kill them off, so a little gray area would not hurt.
-I forgot Damemon was gone-
Another weird thing to mention, but during the start of this episode, I was a bit surprised to hear that Damemon was gone. I FORGOT ABOUT THAT, but can you blame me? Xros Wars was awful, Damemon’s death came late when I wasn’t caring anymore, and Yuu was not shown much during the first episodes while fights happened. Sure it makes sense when he doesn’t have a digimon to fight with anymore, but if they ham-fisted a “I miss Damemon” into the previous episode, I’d be up to date right away. Oh wait, did I forget something? …. Oh right…. DAMEMON IS IN THE F^&KING OPENING OF THE SHOW!!!! We all know he’ll be around, so if you don’t underline that he’s gone for these first episodes, you cannot be surprised if we think he’s still there! … ok maybe I would remember that if Xros wars was any good, and I would care from the start, but…… you know!
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Did I need to write this? Absolutely not, but I’ve ranted so much about Xros Wars previously , that actually getting something positive to such a degree from an episode fills me with passion! And even episode 5 wasn’t a huge step downwards. I still expect that things could possibly get “mah” in the future, but no matter what, I’ve got Yuu now, someone I can root for between the piles of stupidity! HAHAHAHA!
Reader’s question:
“Farel, are you sure you don’t just have a bias here, because Blossomon was a plant digimon, so you obviously had to like this?”

THIS JOURNAL IS OVER!
<shuts off everything>

Leomon
Wizardmon
Wormmon
And a few others... their deaths happened within the span of the show and they had a chance to make an impact. Damemon's death happened towards the end, and I guess there was some stupid implication that "from somewhere, he's supporting all of us", but that was cheap ... OH MAN! THAT'S RIGHT!!! The final battled opened the digimon netherworld! All dead digimon fought in the great battle, so where was Damemon there?!
Not to say that all of this was a mess, but they really could have set this up more properly, because I really forgot he was dead! Technically I could have forgotten he was Yuu's digimon partner if it wasn't for the opening! Damemon was a cheap villain throughout most of Xroswars and only later on he was revealed to belong to Yuu, so I did not really feel like they were that close......
it reminds me of two other shows I reviewed/ looked at that were weekly made and just pumped out without much thought or soul. Its sad, because Digimon's first 3 running's were fun and filled to the brim with spirit :o
I also liked the evil lady with the needles, she was so sinister
While tonnes of kids anime are like this (Baneblade, YuGiOh, Vanguard, Pokémon too and so on) are and have the same stock characters, Digimon took its cast and crew and did it differently. It wasn't a total sell out saying:
"HEY KIDS CHECK OUT THIS NEW MONSTER, SCREAM AND YELL AT YOUR PARENTS UNTIL THEY BUY IT!"
Each thing they faced was a genuine threat and obstacle to overcome, as opposed to just a bully or weird adult competitor who's taking a card game way to seriously
Even if the sequel season that I talked about here is a bit better, it still relies on sponsorship from McDonalds and there's contests going around all the time. I heard that in Japan the show had these things, but it seems like they really are integrated into the show's opening and closure, and it happens so frequently.... Even if the story is way better now, it feels a bit artificial with those additions...
its just like the old commercial series of the 80's, like Transformers, My Little Pony and other Hasbro things.
also is it me or do some of the Digimon you linked look a little like custard pies?
There truly was no trailer for a new series at the end, but recently there's talk of Digimon Adventure 03, so... we'll see how that'll fair.
To explain this to you, the digimon show where that Lucemon mess happened... it has a sequel, I started watching it, seemed bad, but then a good episode showed up and so I am cautiously optimistic.
