Leafbiting 2014
Tis upon us! Leafbiting! :D
October 4th is known (but not to everyone) as Wolrd Animal Day. You take this day of the year to treat your pets to soemthing nice and special or you go out to lend some support or aid to your local shelter, anything to show your love and appreciation towards animals.
What I have been doing for many years now is what i like to call Leafbiting. I abstain from eating any food that involved an animal being killed for it. So as to not to dredge on about details, buts and what ifs, I don't eat meat for 2 months, vegetarianism, until my birthday December 4th. Then ye mees best beware...
As you may have noticed from my previous 2 submissions, I picked two Leafbiters from last year and drew them a picture, something I intend to do again for this year, as a little extra motivation to try leafbiting yourself!
Yes, every year I encourage my watchers to join me with leafbiting for as many days as they think they can handle. Even if you abstain from eating meats for 1 day, that's already showing a proper gesture.
Why? I get people posting comments about how being a vegetarian is bs and give me all kinds of reasons and unwarranted opinions. I'm not promoting people to become vegetarians or vegans or trying to change the world. This is a gesture towards the tasty animals we love to eat, a period of abstinence to make us appreciate the animals we eat even more, or any other goodwill gesture towards animals in general. Therefore, if you're somehow still opposed to leafbiting or vegetarianism in any way, please don't leave any unwelcome or discouraging comments. It's both a gesture and a challenge, supposed to be fun. :3
To participate, it's important you don't simply cut meat out of your diet for your leafbiting period. You need to eat proper substitutes like cheese, legumes (beans, lentil etc), mushrooms, nuts, eggs, soy products and other veggie based proteins. Google around for recipes that seem interesting to you and share them with your fellow leafbiters! In fact, if you submit a recipe as a journal or submission in your gallery, I'll put the link here in this journal with your name so other leafbiters can look it up.
So how do you participate? Simply leave a comment in this journal stating you want to join and I'll put your name up here. Tell me how many days you want to go for (up to 2 months, 61 days). In the light of Thanksgiving or other holidays, also mention if you're going to have one or more days of exemption. It's nice to have an accommodating family, but they shouldn't have to cook two meals because of some internet person told you to if they don't agree with it. You can have meats on your days of exemption, but they won't count towards your total.
Also link me to a ref of your fursona and tell me your favourite fruit or veggie. I'll need this if I pick you as honorary Leafbiter 2014. It's not a contest, the award goes to a random participant, but as a hint, your chances are a little higher if you show a little effort towards Leafbiting :3 Posting a recipe for me to link to, making a journal to ask for your friends to join, giving me updates on your progress/successes/difficulties etc.
And importantly, have fun! Do NOT suffer just for the sake of joining. If this is your first time, try for a day or a week at most. Talk to your parents or housemates and see if they want to accommodate for you or if they want to join, or arrange you'll cook for yourself. I'll stress again, it's important you'll get all necessary nutrients, especially if you're going for a longer period of time. Look into your favourite dishes cooked with vegetarian substitutes on the interwebs, there's some time to prepare yourself when you're reading this (I hope). If I can find the time, I'll post a journal or a picture of some tasty foods :3
We'll start leafbiting 2014 October 4th! :D Thank you for joining up and good luck to all!

I used to call vegetarians Bladhappers, it literally translates to leafbiters from dutch.

My favorite fruit..hm, difficult but I'll go with a pomegranate. They taste yummy.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7584483/
That sounds like a lovely recipe <3 I've been making burgers with peas and chick peas like that before, I'll give this a go some time <3
Do you want to be eligible to become honorary leafbiter 2014? Link me to your ref and tell me your favourite fruit or veg. :D
But yeah, the recipe went fine and all. :3 It was probably like, the most amount of vegetables I'd ever bought at once, to make it. And I didn't really have a food processor, so blending it took a while. But it tasted pretty good, even if it was a little odd having a patty made of sweet potato and not meat. x3 Much more gooey inside than firm. But yeah, I had it, gave the rest of it to my vegetarian sister and she enjoyed it, so I'd say it went alright. :3 Might try making it again sometime?
Besides that, I pretty much ate like normal, a grilled sandwich or two during the day, with egg and cheese and stuff. x3
Are you joining then? :3
Treat yourself to a belly full of curvacious girls the next day <3

Does salad count as a vegetable?
I think I'll give it a shot for a week.

I'll definitely be giving it another go next year!

Im going to do it this time! >:C

And unngh that would be lovely! My favourite fruit IS actually Mango, all vixen jokes aside, i freakin love them IRL too.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8604629/ dashing vulpine gobbletwat here !
favorite veggie? the habanero pepper of course
here is a ref if you want: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10257178/
recipe: http://mexicanfood.about.com/od/sup.....sacaliente.htm
you can never go wrong with salsa <3 lots of good stuff mixed together, plus those spicy foods increase the metabolism :D
Salsa is great, but it's not a complete meal X3 To share a recipe with your fellow leaf biters, I need a recipe for a proper meal. Like adding rice and beans or a bean burrito with this salsa would round it out.
Probably the last bean wrap I'm going to put up here X3 sheesh
this one was one of my faves that looks yummy!
http://allrecipes.com/recipe/tofu-a.....l.aspx?evt19=1
I like vegetables, even just as they are, but I cook with them too. Blend them into sauces, put them in caseroles, with the right seasoning or sauce they go perfectly well with rice or potatoes or any other dish imaginable. It's a whole world of foods!
Anyway I really urge you to look up recipes or maybe go out to dinner to veggie restaurants, maybe it won't be all that bad. I'll write you down for 2 days and after that you can gobble up all the squeaky fennec foxies you want <3.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11442010/ and my favorite fruit/veg... I'd have to say the potato. It's just so dang versatile! Also apples. Equally versatile. :)
I savagely destroyed a meat lover's pizza on the 13th though. >>;
Planned menu: 1st day, vegetarian sushi platter and seaweed salad for lunch (takeaway), grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner; 2nd day, vegetarian burgers for lunch, fruit salad for dinner; 3rd day, lunch salad with variety of cheeses, and mushroom omelette for dinner.
Refs:

Favourite fruit: clementines
Recipe:
While I'm not planning on making it for this, I made it few times this summer (both with chantarelles and just plain old buttons) and it is super delicious: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/.....up-recipe.html (just sub vegetable stock for the chicken stock)
I think the mushroom soup is a nice entree, but it needs more body to make it a complete meal (have some cheesy oven baked potatoes and baked or steamed veggies to go with it for example).
There's a ref: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11391157/
Had to go back a long ways to find anything at all with Humbug in it. XD
Also, I like this recipe: http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/.....lada-casserole
Replace "Ground turkey or beef" with "Bean paste" and we're good. Of course, I also like to add all sorts of other stuff, like sour cream, black olives, button or portobello mushrooms, and avocado slices. It's fun to mix things up.
You went with 1 week last year, make it 2 this year then?
Can be whole beans for your recipe too or use veggie minced meat in it instead :3 I'll add that to your suggested recipe.
And yup. Two sounds very doable, since my roomate doesn't tend to eat what I eat anyway.
You know why I don't go vegetarian for very long anyway.
One week for the pandie <3

DX I AM useless
Also I sometimes visit vegetarian restaurant from time to time cause it's good and tasty and cheap, might throw some recipes later.
Good luck to all the Leafbiters~
If you want to join, I need a specific number of days though.
I can say my fave veggie food is couscous with camembert and veggies (corn, beans, cucumber, tomato) spiced.
I much prefer if you link it so I can add it above next to your name in this journal, you could make your own journal and link to it if you want :3
But I missed the meat so I had a pizza and klobasa today .m.
Anyway, I think I'll try to go for 10 days this year.
Recipe: Cream of Mushroom Soup
The reason I use this and, say, don't just buy it from the store is due to the fact I have a dairy allergy. Good luck finding a dairy free cream of anything at the store :P
But yeah, I found this a few years ago, and I make it quite frequently and put it over rice.
Aaaaannnddd, just incase anyone reading this doesn't know how to cook rice, here's a quick google search result.
Favorite fruit: ughhhh, I'm really bad at playing favorites, I love the hell outta fruits ;.; I'll just say Kiwi, cause that's the last fruit I had~

Good luck this year folfie!
my ref well somewhat http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13452889/ im usually drawn as a feral.
and love peaches and the real fruit juice of it but they stop making it sadly here
recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Make-A.....l.aspx?evt19=1
its a good recipe to make for lunches if you need something to go or your you need something to eat at work.
question: is humus ok? there is a couple place called hummazing that specialty is that. are they vegetarian?
Good luck to you this year!
I am considering doing this, this year, and am pondering the foods I could have in substitute of meats~ o wo
I'll go for a week, and I'll let you know how it goes, I also need to work on my own self control x_x; definitely a personal weak point of mine.
Good luck mousie!

Somewhat ironically my favorite fruit is Red Delicious apples, haha.
I'll try and up the ante next time!
I hope my humor, or attempts, don't make my pledge seem less sincere.

I dun like fruit ;-;
Sign me up for a month, like last time!
I actually have some very strange ways of achieving my protein fix. Weirdly enough, I try Marmite and peanut butter together in a sandwich! It sounds weird... okay, it IS weird, but is actually tastes surprisingly nice (if you like marmite, anyway)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8578894/ My favourite fruits are cherries, and other assorted berries, like blueberries, cranberries... etc.! They're deliciously juicy!
My recipe is a dessert! I am a big fan of cheesecake, but the gelatin leaves you usually have to add are an issue. As such I have found this! http://tinyurl.com/kewe6t9 It's a recipe for a chocolate hazelnut cheesecake, because who the hell doesn't love chocolate? And nice it has cheese (it's a cheesecake, duh), you can get yourself a good portion of protein from a slice or two~
Cheese cake isn't a meal though X3 Some people have suggested they would only eat cookies and cereal, but that is NOT a healthy alternative to eating warm well rounded dinner.
I just have a bit of a sweet tooth x3
I will do my best to go as far as i can this year, ill probably only be doing it for a few days, (1 or 2...) but i am planning on trying to go as long as i can. Ill let you know how long i last. ^_^
here is my fursona http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13954637/ (top left)
As for food i love tomato sammiches with mayo and celery salt. ^///^ they are yum. also soups. X3 A lot of the recipes above look so yummy.
so excited. ^^
Is tomato your favourite vegetable then?
Yeah i think so. ^_^

Being on a military base helped, for most of the days I just took the Vegetarian option at work, which is usually tasty. But mosts evenings I took time to whip up some delicious stuff!
Having Veggie options at work saved my butt though, without-em I wouldn't have made the Ten days
It really helps to have a supportive environment like that. Well done kittiegoat! Hope to have you again next year <3
My ref sheet: http://i.imgur.com/fsnKRie.jpg (Also on my page if that's more convenient)
Best of luck to everyone. <3
My fursona be this thingy, http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11906791/
And my favorite vegetable is the ALMIGHTY POTATO!!!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r471bTY05ak :D
(Although broccoli is a close second! Those things are like itty bitty trees.)
I'll put you down for 48 days. :3 Good luck hun.
Besides the shakes I will have coffee, (with oil and cream) cheese, eggs, mushrooms, and textured vegetable protein, which is much like rice. That is enough food variety to satisfy me. I already record every meal I eat every day, but I'll log everything I eat during leafbiting special. I'll leave the shake recipe in a second comment so it can be linked to separately.
Honorary leafbiter 2014 sounds dreamy, so I would like to enter my very special friend who is going to be leafbiting with me. Their name is Loviruruv, and they are guaranteed to leafbite for exactly as long as I do. Here they are: ("Foxes are nice! But I, I don't have one. But I should try, try to find a way to win!")
http://puu.sh/bsHI4/342a507504.png
Lo's favorite vegetable is asparagus.
I'm late because I only drew this just now for the event. I'm excited about this event.
Good luck this year woofie! <3

Sincerely thank you! Protein powder is expensive, but it is less expensive than buying the same protein amount of meat.
http://www.thefreckledfoodie.com/ho.....-sweet-potato/
On, link, right.
And cabbage! Though onions, tomatoes and bell peppers make a tie for being the most useful in any recipe.
Baked potato is not a whole meal hun X3 tasty though!
And what kind of cabbage? White? Chinese? Pak soi? Green? Red?

but sure ^^ http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13119021/ and for further reference you can find it in my gallery ^--^;
Yea it went great actually. Just ate something small at noon before going to the wildlife rescue, and from there i went with some furs home and ate the pasta and pancakes c:
Tough i couldn't convince them to join :P
Put me down for...30 days~!
Favorite fruit: Strawberries~
Reference: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13993092/ (the cute white skunkie)
As for recipies, well...I like to make my own stuff, like Angry Mac. Taking something simple and turning it into something delicious is fun. For instance, I just take some box macaroni, shredded cheese, tomatoes (diced), red onions (diced), jalapeno peppers (diced), and perhaps kidney beans and spinach (in place of shredded chicken), cook it all up, add in some seasonings, and wham! A filling meat-free comfort food that can be used for snacks or even a meal, as I make it in such a way that it has a good bit of nutrients. It's very affordable, and fairly convenient, too. I mean, it's not much, but it's one of many things I've thought up over the years because of Leafbiting and my curiosity and drive for cooking.
I do intend to try http://allrecipes.com/recipe/mild-curry-omelet/ though. However, I'll add my own special touches to it to make it more meal-worthy (or even go with nice, nutritious meatless sides).
I will need somehthing a little more descriptive for a recipe, some (most X3) people are not very confident in the kitchen and need a step by step kind of thing to help them put something edible together. The omelet's nice too, but it's not a complete meal (though it's close). I suppose you could eat it with naan or regular bread.

And my favorite fruit is a peach.
But I'll be in, same as last go! Chalk one fennec overlord up for 61 days!
Favorite fruit: Still blackberries!
I'll keep my refs out of the loop for now. I figure that since I won out before, I can let another soul have a chance at being featured.
As for recipes... I'll get to hunting some proper links and get them up here in the coming days. Said party is going to have me occupied today, but I'll have somethin' up soon enough!
Looking forward to them <3
Here is a link to a recipe I devised personally in my own kitchen, and I may be typing up another one in a bit.
It was hard because I usually cook on the fly and just go by instinct, not writing down proportions and stuffs XD
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6106633/ Three Bean Citrus Salad
um, I'd have to sift for links to sfw pictures of my character for references, and I'd have to say my favorite fruit is the coconut~ I like migratory fruits XD
No worries, I can work with nsfw material as well X3
I cook the exact same way XD I want to post some recipes though, so it'll mess with me for sure. Can't tell if I will like your bean salad though X3 It's also not a complete meal either (or even a salad!), just beans really. With the huge amount of prep, I wish I could say many people would even try it. If you can come up with complete meal dish that's not too big of a hassle to put together, I'll post it up there. You have to consider not many here are used to cutting meat out of their meals, we need recipes that will stimulate them to try different vegetarian dishes, not discourage them with it.
I'll scratch me head a good bit and try to find SOMETHING I can link~
Baby steps, I'll give you three days.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13800199/ I am Flynn, the coyote character up top (the ref and drawing on this is terrible, but it gives the flat colour palette).
Favourite non meat thing? I didn't know that was possible. I suppose it would be the apple.
Made it. Just.
Glad it went well for you <3 Hope to see you again next year!!

Just be sure to vary it up. This is a vegetarian challenge, not a vegan one. Vegan may be a too big of a dietary shock to your system, you should supplement it by eating eggs and dairy, stuff the vegan can't eat. Good luck!

Glad you two made it, hope to see you again next year!
Anyway, I do have links to a few references for my Snowy, both nsfw vore related shenanigans ^^;
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11392972/ body, striping, base colors and hair length
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10478176/ eyes and striping again. The irises are grey while the sclera are a light cyan
But yeah, just your average white and yellow lemon scented soul devouring tiger demon. .... yup... average.
I've also been telling everyone I can both online and at work about world animal day and leafbiting~ :3

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9385102/ I'm the blue haired one! I mean, technically we're both doing it but that could get complicated and bleh and *flails*
As for fav fruit or veg, I love raspberries!
That said, the most I can pledge is three weeks (and to hopefully be able to recommend a couple of good store-bought protein shakes / bars before it's over). Can't expect my anti-gout freezer stash to carry me much longer than that (and I'll be damned if I'm going to start taking pills for it again).

And my favorite fruit, hands down, is cherries, because they can be used to PREVENT gout.
I think that's for the best if you have other issues that restrict what you eat. Please take care of yourself above all else and hopefully you'll be in better convenience to join next year <3
Honestly, I not only didn't miss the meat, I stopped thinking about it entirely. My weekly grocery bill got so much lower without the meat products in it that, halfway through it, Leafbiting stopped being a motivating force almost completely. It didn't even occur to me that it'd been that long since I'd had any until I got this journal reply.
Anyway hope you join again next year!
I'll look for my old recipe book for my pumpkin vegetarian chili to post later.
Either way, I MADE IT!! Gonna stuff myself with turkey breast this afternoon! <3
