The True, Secret Shame of Destiny

Inside sources reveal the huge, sweep changed made to Destiny months before launch
" There were sudden and abrupt changes in the development of Destiny less than a year ago. There was tension between higher ups the entire time we were developing the title due to a lack of cohesion about the vision for the game. One side wanted this huge space epic, like an MMO Mass Effect and the other side was not convinced that would sell and wanted to pare things back to more "easily accessible" standards. They were afraid too much story elements and cut scenes would drive players off.
Then Joe left and everything just fell apart. By the time we were 7 months out to release, word came down that we were making massive revisions to the game's story. Huge portions of dialogue were excised and I think several recordings were redone to support the new narrative. Entire areas that would have been in the final game were removed, but some of the context wasn't, which explains weird reactions from NPCs and strange, unexplained motivations. We had a guy come in to write the grimoire cards who was given access to the original script with notations on what was cut and what needed to be revised in order to make this zombie of a game seem plausible.
All of the Last City factions had their storylines and dialogue cut, the Guardian's initial introduction to the Tower and the Last City was cut, and ALL the origins were homogenized down to the one originally used for Exo characters.
Most of what was cut was planned to be re-polished into DLC, but it's all there on the disc. Not all of it is live on the servers, but it's all there on the disc. Some last minute art assets needed to be remade, which is what you'll be downloading.
It's an embarrassing disaster and not the game I thought would be published."
So, we were originally going to get a sprawling space opera in the beginning with light MMO elements. That was what was revealed and shown to us back in E3 2012 and 2013.. then in 7months Bungie and Activision thought it would scare off the Dude Bro crowd of CoD because it was too complicated and indepth.. and instead we got this half finished feeling piece of crap.
I hope whomever's decision to cut all this content was severely reprimanded then fired for this. It was a horrible decision.
MINOR UPDATE
Bungie has officially made a post/tweet/whatever denouncing this information as a false leak

The question is, is this damage repair or real?

They could always FIX the problems and add the removed stuff back into the game, it's not impossible (talking FREE UPDATES btw.) Although I suppose that's proof while I, as well as many others that got the game on launch, should've been skeptical with Activision publishing...they suffocated Bungie too much. we KNOW Bungie can write and make really good games (I'm looking at you, Halo 3)..it's a shame Activision suffocated them where Destiny couldn't be made the way it was supposed to.
Like I've said before, Destiny's not too bad, it's fairly good, but..yeah..this also explains some of the stuff revealed in a recent bug thing.
One last thing, while it could be just as much Bungie's fault, i'm blaming Activision, because, they're almost EA-level evil.
Cut off their eyes.
It's sad, because the potential was there for an amazing story... Instead it felt more rushed than the original Mass Effect 3 ending...
Joking, joking, but I feel glad that I don't own something that can play destiny and can give the game a full pass. By the time I ever get a PissFour or Xbone the game will be either dead or established and not shit. Looking at Smash Bros. and Borderlands Pre-Sequel for some fun times in October.
Also, Bun, we should pick a night for some Borderlands 1 playing :)
I know microsoft probably isn't the only one to do this, I just already have a hateboner for them, why not stroke it?
Pokemans: more of the same, Mario Platformer Word Salad 18, original.
However yes... I think it was both.
This is one of the reasons the gaming industry is going to crash, you can say its not but It will it has before and it will again.
And just like I always say
" When a video game becomes a by product of the gaming industry's capitalistic system it will become a monopoly the eyes of the consumer no longer a gamer."
It wasn't about plot and development.. it was about flooding the market asap to keep the audience slow and in a state of haze from the rush of media.
Sure a few gems come out now and then, but it's after shifting through piles of crap.
Full disclosure: I only have an 'inferior' PS2 and PS3, and do not have Destiny.
Lol.
I think it was downgraded to support the Dudebro, FPS, ESPORTSD crowd.
And no, it has nothing to do about the esport crowd. Console esport is an hilarious joke at best.
Said it years ago, turns out I was right. Christ I hate being right so much :C
pretty disgusted with the whole thing. From the sounds of it, the management
pretty much gutted all the really fun stuff, and dumbed down the rest until
to the level of the lowest common denominator. And you've always been
many things Marbles, but several sandwiches short of a picnic was never
one of them.
It really does irritate me to no end, when companies do that to a loyal
and much valued fan base. It's like the management at these companies
just decided they no longer give a damn about quality and content. All
they care about is that their product flies off the shelf, and they can
take a bath in thousand dollar bills. To people like you and me, who
desire something broad of scope and complex enough to actually
need some serious thinking, it's like being handed cotton candy,
when we asked for Thanksgiving Dinner.
Nooooooooooo!
Why was this done!?
You think I should still get it on the 360?
I heard if you get it digitally on the xbox you get the One version for free

Am I still enjoying Destiny? Yup.
the can of worms you open up with that train of thought which could possibly lead to your game feeling short and the player feeling unfulfilled. All in all, I had fun with Destiny (who the hell doesn't have fun fighting an alien menace on the garden world of Venus?), I just wish there was more to it.
Fuck, I... I can't stop... laughing... so... hard...
Bungie you fucking retards! XD
They were so sure, they were so up themselves and the WHOLE TIME they weren't just face-planting, but mining into the pavement with their faces like heavy duty drills!!!! My god... oh, wow... just... XD
I... I can't breathe... laughing... too hard...
To hear that someone was so commitesd to this game and was over ruled into making a shit game.
And to hear its all on disc?
Damn... thats all I CAN say...
As for there being cut missions, and story on the disk we are not allowed access to. Yes there is some, but that content is coming over time, there is a lot of content that is resolved story wise, at least partially. Like you taking out Sepkis Prime in the Cosmodrome is the end of the fallen arch on Earth for now, the Black Garden is the end of the Vex on Mars (for now). Venus gets 'resolved' with the vault of glass. The Hive are resolved kinda with the strike on the moon. All the missions, story wise, have a pretty bow on them for now, but as they say in the end, there are more enemies out there, I would venture to say all the content we want is being held back as they polish up the experience to make sure everyone is comfortable with the play mechanics.
They are already making changes to matchmaking, and making changes to fireteams and the like. I would venture to say they wanted to give all the content up to the vault of glass, just to make sure everything was working as intended, and then they plan on adding loads more in december with that expansion pack. Remember, this is a 10 year game, if they just gave us ass loads of content right away, people would drift away within those 10 years. Think of it in MMO terms, go with World of Warcraft, WoW was a HUGE open world, and you could do so much with it, but people were quitting right and left....then they release an expansion, and people flock back in droves. With Destiny, rather than blow their wad in the beginning, and have people quit for months, and wait for the expansion pack, they are doing content updates over time. Like the Queens Bounty stuff, that came out only a couple weeks after launch, and they have a long list of events they plan cycling in and out of play to keep folks interested and entertained.
Of course Bungie will deny it, they are under contract. Just like Maxis and other companies when they made huge Blunders (Sim City) or caught in lies.
I can see all the information being true, and now all the news sites are picking up this info and running with it.
I'm not saying that the worries of those who bought the game and find it lacking are invalid, all I am saying is, that it is too soon to call this game dead in the water, or imply we are being scammed when so far they have a timeline set for incremental updates to expand the world over time. A plan that, in my opinion, will allow them to release content in more stable chunks, with maximum polish, rather than having super buggy areas that are horrible to play through.
If not, well my money can go elsewhere.
But I do agree, this sounds like a terrible fuckup by corporate greed, who's mindset today seems to be "More, Faster, I don't care what it is as long as its selling at launch". Shame really.
also, seriously. there needs to be a "Dont Rush It" system. DRI means dont make it
for some arbitrary date, do.t try to speed it up because competition... just
make it complete.
I tend to break off as soon as the typical kill X monsters quest begin to pop up. The entire genre feels like a theme park experience. That quest you've especially been asked to is done by a dozen more players who have all been specially asked to do the same thing. Waiting in line to kill the boss.
"Embark on an epic action adventure with rich cinematic storytelling..."
Huh-what? I want some of that! What game are they selling? Oh right, that's on the product description for Destiny. >_>
Also why would a PR rep comment on this, literally feeding the trolls?
Atleast we had a HOW and WHY
I don't know too much into the topic besides what you'd already covered and what they already showed me, but...yeah, it's pretty sad. Damage control or not, it's clear that a lot of dumbfuckery was afoot. Getting worried about the Halonites running away and catering more towards them instead of making something insanely badass and perhaps even drawing in a new, fresh community of gamers and fans...
