Hi everyone!

I'm

dreamsong, and I've been invited to be the new host of the Furry Musician's Spotlight!

I love how Asia did things with the Furry Musician's Spotlight, so I'll probably be sticking close to what she's done -- choosing songs to Spotlight because they are neat, unique, or otherwise deserving of a “Hey, you've got to check this out”... not because they are “the best”. (I have always loved that the Spotlight was a spotlight, and not a contest. :)

We know there are a lot of weeks of submissions that haven't been produced, but since there has been such a gap, I'd like to start fresh and get into hearing and spotlighting what's new from our inspiring, prolific musicians! (And do my very best to keep things running smoothly... bearing in mind that there may be slippage -- after all, we're all volunteers doing this because it's good to give back to the community we love being a part-of!)

So, what I'd like to do is have submissions run from Monday morning through Sunday night, and of course, I'm only going to consider a song if it was posted on FA within the last week (or possibly two) to keep things fresh.

I plan on posting that Spotlight on the Friday of the week the Submissions close. (For example, if Monday is the 1st of a month, Submissions would close on Sunday the 7th, for which the Spotlight would be posted on Friday the 12th.)

Myself? I've been active as a contributing artist in the Furry Community since 1997, having worked for a long time in animation, film and VFX. (I used to animate for Disney Feature Animation, and I've worked on Battlestar Galactica... I also did the old, experimental, animated, anthropomorphic short film, Kaze: Ghost Warrior.)

I'm a professional singer who's just had an album released through an Independent label.... ...And I absolutely love listening to music of all kinds!

So, I'm really looking forward to being a part of the Furry_Musicians team and giving something back to the community that means so much to me!

Submit here for the next show!

Just a reminder that in order to be in the spotlight, there has to be a section of your song long enough to showcase that is PG rated!

Please keep in mind that I do not necessarily select the BEST piece, simply the piece to be Spotlighted. Sometimes the pieces are professional quality, and sometimes it's a first, low-quality recording. Don't be hurt if you think a song that is "inferior" to yours is spotlighted. We are all musicians, and all deserve recognition for our talents!

Remember, submitting your song on this page doesn't mean it will be spotlighted, it means I promise to look at it and consider it for the show. I STILL browse the music submitted over the past week, though I don't have time to listen to every one submitted. Posting your song on this journal guarantees I give it a listen. It does not, however, get priority over other songs that are not posted here!

Songs MUST be hosted on FA to be considered. If only a portion of your song is on FA, it must be clear, no advertisement to listen to it another place in the audio, and long enough to spotlight.

I want to focus on songs uploaded this week. If needed I will reach back as far as 2 weeks. There seems to be confusion on this. If it is over a week old on the day this journal is posted, it will NOT be considered for the Spotlight!

And don't forget, this isn't a contest! It's a Spotlight!

Aww, thank you Syncro!

I really missed the Spotlight, it really brought us all together and I really wanted to see that happen again. We've got such talented musicians, composers, songwriters and singers here, and we all do our best work when we know others are taking the time to care about what it is we pour our hearts and souls into.

Was this comment in regards to my "Prince of Egypt" cover or my "Wicked" cover? If it's the former, I answered your copy of the same comment on the submission file itself. If it's the latter, I'm really not hearing any phasing issues with that backing track.

Ooooh that's really awesome ! I missed the spotlight a lot... it used to be great for finding new musicians. I have missed that. It's hard to find us on here amongst all the art ^^;;;

You know what? We retract our submission from consideration! Just remembered, we (untypically for us) used a pre-recorded backing track on that song. It doesn't really feel right to vie for a slot in the 'Musicians' Spotlight' for a song on which we didn't actually record the music. We'll wait 'til the next one we did 100% ourselves.
