There is a set of fantasy novels along these lines involving Jig the goblin, by Jim Hines. Three books in the series and worth a read if you can lay your hands on them.

About Meek: Meek is a monk (punchy kind, not the the prayer kind) that somehow learned to enchant his fists with fire. He is a master of calming his mind, allowing him to focus on combat. However, when unprepared, he has a nasty habit of dropping into meditation IN THE MIDDLE OF COMBAT. Even while meditating, Meek is still hard to hit. He's fast, and his enhanced focus allows him to anticipate where attacks will land, as well as prepare to get out of the way. That being said, Meek truly lives up to his name. Unless he, or his friends, are in immediate danger (as in, there's a hydra or bandits about to kill them), he's generally a bloody coward, and would much prefer to run away from a fight than participate. He's gullible as sin, and can usually be convinced to do stupid things without thinking them through. He also talks in the third person ("Meek does not know why he talks like this, he only knows that he has always done it!"). Meek is also capable of enchanting his fists with Ice, Lightning, or Poison, but he's not at all aware of this fact. The person who taught him the technique seemed to have left that part out.

Well, that sounds an ambitious idea indeed, I'm all up for it!

Once the youngest, and now the only shaman of the Wet Rock tribe, Ivisska had once been entrusted with the clutch-keeping duty. These days, when her tribe is but a shadow of its former glory, Ivisska plays the role of an accountant, supervisor and unofficial (and contended) leader of the ever-dwindling tribe, desperate to find some rest. Like many others, this kobold is obsessed with what she passionately calls 'shinies', and will often sneak into the exciting world of Big-Folks to steal a gem, a handful of coins, some cutlery, or a delicious piece of pie.
Ivisska has an outgoing personality and is always eager to be around people, kobolds or not. There is, however, certain... anxiety, unease when she stares at the sky at night, as if something wicked may soon come her way. She has a habit of repeating words, making up new ones on the fly or distorting their meaning, which can make her hard to understand. The girl is prone to mischief and random acts of pure unadulterated naughtiness, which often leads her (and others) into trouble.
Ivisska has scarce knowledge of the Arcane, able to cast some primitive spells through her crude dragon-worshipping rituals, which may or may not backfire, have an entirely different effect, or not work altogether. In battle, she often has to rely on her wits and swift paws to survive. Ivisska likes finding new ways of stealing shinies, helping other kobolds succeed, and seeing her shenanigans bear fruit. She absolutely detests guards and most forms of Big-Folk authority.

Kratta is a brass dragonwrought kobold.

she is a living heresy... She was born in a tiamat-worshipping hatchery. Kobolds of dragonwrought and half-dragon heritage, she was the odd metallic in the nest who miraculously was spared from execution thanks to her father's negotiations. Unfortunately, this would lead to intense physical and mental bullying from her peers. There's a reason she was given the name 'WussyScars.'

Kratta's life events tend to unfold differently to accomodate a DnD table, but she is very often a sorcerer!

For likes and dislikes, Kratta is a complete sucker for benevolent dragons. Rudness, intolerance, cruelty and vanity are the only things she's ever really been exposed to. Nothing makes her heart melt faster than an the idea of romancing and being accepted by an open-minded, flirtatious metallic dragon. The inverse is also true. She has fought Tiamat's spawn on many occasions... And doesn't cow tow to them as most all kobolds do. Being dragonwrought gives her an intuitive understanding of draconic body language. ^.-.^
