A quick break from Japan journal for the "25 things" meme
16 years ago
I promise I'll post another Japan journal sometime soon, perhaps even today. But I needed to get my meme fix X3
I originally saw this meme on Facebook, but it seems to have migrated to FA as well. The whole thing is to just post 25 random facts about yourself that most people are unlikely to know. Here it is then =P
1. As a baby, I very rarely cried, and I smiled and laughed a lot. My parents would come into my room in the morning fearful that something was wrong because they didn't hear anything coming from me only to find me laughing. Because of this, my mother called me her "sunny child"
2. When I was maybe 5 years old, my mother's best friend gave me a teddy bear which I named "Mike Fuzzy" after hearaing my mother suggest those two names to my brother for a different toy. I still have it, and will probably keep it until it dissolves into dust.
3. I was born in Ann Arbor Michigan, but moved down to New Orleans Louisiana when I was about 6 years old, leaving literally all of my relatives save for my mother and father behind. I've lived there for about 15 years now. I still remember the name of my best friend in Michigan who I haven't had any contact with for years now: Russel Malcolm
4. Shortly after moving to New Orleans, we had some of our relatives over to visit. We went to the French Quarter, and in one of the shops they had a stocking hanging at the counter with the cash register with something poking out of it. Being a curios kid, I examined it, confused, running my hands over it to see if that would help trigger anything as to what it might be while the people at the cash register laughed heartily at me, only furthering my confusion. My uncle then snatched my arm and dragged me angrily away. It was only a year or two later upon reexamining the memory that I realized it was an enormous rubber penis.
5. Once, when I was a child, I climbed to the top of a playground structure that my uncle had in his backyard, and which was about two stories tall, and, after calling the attention of my parents, jumped off thinking I could fly. I ended up with only a sprained ankle.
6. When I was about 8 years old, the day camp that I attended during summer vacation showed me and all other kids in my age group the movie "Jaws," telling us "it's not that scary." I was afraid to enter any body of water larger than a bathtub for about a year after that.
7. I have only been in one fist fight in my life. It was at middle school, and he was asking for it.
8. In my younger years I attended Sunday School and, later, the church sponsored youth group. Even in those days I questioned many of the teachings and stories from the Bible, and now I am an agnostic bordering on atheist. Still, I'm happy to have spent the time at that church. It showed me the good that can come of religion. Also, the youth group was very fun.
9. My mother tried to bring me and my brother to church service a few times a year. It started out with her trying to bring us on most religious holidays. We were so bored during the sermon, however, that we cut up a lot. This resulted in her eventually bringing us only on Christmas, Easter, and Palm Sunday, then, later, not at all.
10. In my youth, I played soccer. I was usually a fullback, though occasionally I was in the halfback position. One of the best teams I was on, and the one that ended up coming in first place that year, had me in a unique position comparable to that of an assassin: I would hound the opposing team's star player and make sure the ball never got to him. This would frustrate the hell out of that player...hehehe >=3
11. Only two people I have known have ever died while I was still in contact with them: my great aunt Nancy and, more recently, my grandfather on my father's side. The first funeral I ever attended was last semester, for my grandfather.
12. I have never broken a single bone in my body
13. As a kid, my method for conquering my fear of the dark was to imagine that I was, in fact, a dragon, my reasoning being that since I knew monsters didn't exist, if I met one I'd be meeting it on fantastic terms so I might as well imagine myself to be something that could handle itself against one. It worked surprisingly well.
14. If I can't move my limbs or can't move them very much (i.e. I'm buried to the neck in sand at the beach, or my arms are pinned to my sides by a large cylindrical tube) I panic
15. Breast size just isn't a turn on for me.
16. When I was young I wanted to be an actor. I had some acting summer camps and stuff like that, and I was involved in the drama club at my school. Upoon reflection, the woman who headed the drama club seemed to dislike me for some reason.
17. I've fired one gun in my life, a rifle that belongs to my uncle, under his supervision. I've fired bows much more often, however, though I'm no Robin Hood. Always, these are fired at targets; I've never gone hunting.
18. On one of my father's birthdays we were out on vacation (I can't remember where) and he wanted to do a nature trail nearby. The trail took about 30 minutes and, due to the scorching heat, we were all hot and sweaty by the time we got back to the car, and just as the air conditioning was kicking in my dad saw another trail that he wanted to go on. I expressed that I didn't want to, but it was his birthday so I caved easily. This new trail was about 2-3 hours long, and I was miserable the whole time. I even managed to trip and skin my knee in the sweltering heat. To this day I don't like nature trails, and whenever my dad wants to go on one I remind him of that time, whether I intend to go on the trail with him or not.
19. In 7th grade, my class was the only one for whom the sex ed video was stopped halfway through because we were "being too immature"
20. I have an incredibly strong personal morality, bordering on self-righteousness. Given a situation I can often tell whether I think it's right or wrong within a matter of seconds. I also have some controversial views that I' not afraid to state and argue.
21. When I was little, I decided to take piano lessons. I was set up with a nice but quirky woman named Marcy Newman. After some time, however, I quickly grew tired of my practice regime, which was thirty minutes a day. Not too much compared to some other people I knew, but it was still time that I didn't want to spend on it. Though my dad tried to keep me from quitting, my mom eventually overruled him. In high school I learned from a friend that Ms. Newman killed herself some time after I quit.
22. My family has had several pets over the course of the years, including two cats, two guinea pigs, several snakes, innumerable anoles and skinks (both types of lizards that we just caught around the house), a few turtles, and, more recently, two dogs and an aquarium full of fish. I've never truly experienced the loss of a pet.
23. I've only had one Friday detention in my entire life, and only I think two Saturday detentions. I've had a fair amount of morning and lunch detentions, but those meant next to nothing to me since I took the bus to school and had to hang around early anyways, or just used the lunch period as a study hall (or chatted up the teachers who held the detentions, which were actually some of my favorites).
24. My least favorite core subject is math and my most favorite is English. It is ironic, then, that my most favorite teacher is Ms. Hebert, my 7th grade math teacher (who now teaches science and is the disciplinarian), and my least favorite teacher was Ms. Dawson, my 6th grade English teacher who was fresh out of school, didn't know what to do, and was fairly mean to me.
25. My least favorite subject after math in high school was French. I absolutely hated learning the language, and I was pretty bad at it too. Now, however, I'm in Japan for study abroad in order to learn Japanese, which I absolutely love. Go figure.
and now, I shall tag
d-tail (even though he won't do it X3), and
twilightrat, as well as anyone else who wants to do it ^^

FA+

It's very open ended.
I think I might do this as well. It seems like fun. So be on the look out for mine soon. XD
It is indeed fun, heehee. Tougher than most memes though, since it's so open ended =P
