Flashback Friday: Power Rangers Anthro
If a lot of you don't already know, I was a huge Power Rangers fan growing up, it was hands down my favorite show. I don't know what drew me to it, was it the fights, characters, special effects or maybe it was the friendship. All I knew is that I wanted to be one, Badly. So when I was 20 they started airing the original season on TV again which pretty much got me hooked on the series all over again. I used the show as motivation for me to work out because I was pretty much the appropriate age to be a ranger so I figured why not look the part too. Before I got my fursuit, one of the things I planned on doing was buying a ranger shirt so I can start running around kicking some ass. I bought the original morpher and blaster as well and boy they were not cheap. Once I started doing that my buddy Ket suggested I put a team of fursuit rangers together and once that came together I figured why not do a masquerade with that concept.
The year was 2011 and I was going to attend what was to be my last Anthrocon (for the time being anyway) and I thought this would be a great way to leave my stamp on the con's legacy. The masquerade used to be my favorite part of the con so being actually able to perform and be apart of it was a huge deal for me at the time, I didn't want to screw it up. The cast I put together included friends both old and new from places far and wide. Wolf Pup TK was actually originally supposed to be the white ranger but couldn't commit due to his other skits but luckily we met someone at the con who game to takeover the role, a lion named Taru. Everyone else I knew from personally from cons, NY Furs, or even by chance when I met this random chick named Yoko who wanted to help by bringing us our weapons.
I wrote out a small script and we got to rehearse about 2 or 3 times before the main show, our first rehearsal being down below.
I was pretty nervous, I wanted things to go great. Ket and Taru injured themselves before showtime but luckily they pulled through and we were able to give the crowd an awesome show.
This was one of the huge highlights of my furry life for me because its not everyday you can do something this awesome with your friends and have everyone witness it. I'll admit that planning this took a lot of my con time away from but it was well worth it, a lot of people loved it and if I could do it again, I'd make i even better. The fact that I had this silly idea and everyone was game for it still surprises me to this day and the way we bonded backstage after it was done was a very heartwarming moment for me that I'll never forget.
This all lead of course to the green ranger himself, Jason David Frank, autographing a photo of the Power Rangers Anthro and shouting out the catchphrase, its Anthropomorphin' Time.
It was a dream come true, thanks again for everyone involved for making it happen.

I remember that skit like it was yesterday. Quite the fun experience helping behind the scenes and as a backup. Glad the performance came out great at the show!
