The Quartermaster is the advocate for the lesser crew (deck hands and assistant engineers). They are the one to take the crew's grievances up with the captain. They are selected by the lesser crew through a vote. If the vote is tied, the captain's vote will be the tie-breaker. The quartermaster is also in charge of doling out the assignments for the deck hands, and managing the rigging(sails) and rigging maintenance.
