The cook is responsible for all meals consumed on the ship. They control the galley(kitchen) and cooking supplies. They are responsible for keeping an inventory of all food on board the ship, and for the purchase of new food at port with funds given by the captain. The cook is also responsible for deck hands and assistant engineers working in the galley. The cook is selected by the captain, usually based on the criterion of whether or not the captain likes their food.
