Avengers: Age of Ultron review
Sorry, meant to do this on Friday, but got kinda busy. First thing to address, I do plan on continuing my MCU movie reviews, I thought I was gonna get them all in before May 1st. I wanna do it cuz some things people complain about them have are very head scratching.
Well, opening day, May 1st, saw it... twice on the same day; one with my friends, and again with my family... and I loved it!
People have been giving it mixed feelings about it, but I freely admit that it DOES have problems. With me personally it's editing, certain elements here and there. So if I were to give it a grade, it'd be in the B-range, but you know my process, if a movie has heart, I get it on DVD, and this movie did have heart. It's as good as the first, thought I'm gonna lean towards more on the first being better. But I'm still gonna get it on DVD. It did what I expected to accomplish to be a cool romp with my favorite superhero team and it was.
If you've seen the movie and you think there are plotholes, they are explained in this week's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., for instance, the helicarrier coming to the rescue. Or how the Avengers knew Strucker's location, from last week's episode. They tie all this in, just like they did in Cap 2. Way to go, Coulson! ^^
People call it a disappointment, but I don't think that, I feel like it's a worthy entry. It's nowhere near Iron-Man 3 bad. I stated before that after seeing Iron-Man 3 the MCU movies would only go up for me.
But some people hate this for the all the wrong reasons. The Biggest 3 are: Hawkeye's family life, Bruce and Natasha's love story, and Ultron himself.
(Spoilers from here on out.)
OK, Hawkeye's family life. People have bitched that Hawkeye's useless cuz he doesn't have powers. This is the same stupidity that they bring up with Aquaman, feeling he's useless cuz he's water-based. He's not boring, he's a cool counterbalance of snarky and poise and he's just a fun character. We didn't get to know him a whole lot in the first movie, but we knew enough to where he joined them cuz he wanted payback, but it left and impression about him that I wanted to see more of him with the gang. OK, so the team's been getting their asses kicked, Scarlet Witch really crippled them, and they have no other bases where Ultron would track them, so Hawkeye brings them to a safehouse, a farm where it's shown he has a wife, two kids and another on the way. People think it's forced and contrived, and doesn't contribute anything to the story. People, the gang was shown their worst fears and they're all shaken up by it, except for Hawkeye, who nabbed Witch and said he wasn't going to be mind-controlled again. That's a good testament to his character. This scene allows them to recuperate, try to figure out what their next move is gonna be, and it was a good way to get to know Hawkeye a little more to where I didn't want him to die, he's got a firggin' kid on the way for God's sake. This scene humanizes the characters and makes us relate to them a whole lot more. Even roller coasters have slow points, and it's good to take a breather from it for a change. This is NOT goddamn Dark Knight or Man of Steel, I DO NOT want that same brooding nonsense with ALL my characters. Hell, even Green Lantern is his lame movie felt more human to me than Bruce or Clark in theirs, and that's saying something. I always love the 'family man' in some superhero stuff, and I'm glad they're doing that with Scott Lang in this Ant-Man movie. Now you could argue that Hawkeye coulda mentioned them in the first movie and it might feel like it's outta left field, but he had a family in comics too, guys. I wasn't bogged down by this like so many others.
Next up, Black Widow. OK, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner stated that Black Widow is a slut, and that caused a big uproar on IMDb, but at least they apologized for it. More than I'll saw with the moron Goyer's crack about calling She-Hulk a big green whore. Whether if they were kidding about it, fine, but actors who pull this crap (which is becoming constantly I'm realizing) is gonna backfire.
We see in Avengers 1, Black Widow seemed to have a thing with Hawkeye. Hey just cuz you're really good friends, doesn't automatically mean they're dating. Then comes Cap 2, where he had that the scene where Widow tells Cap to kiss her. It was as a rouse to throw the bad guys off. She flirted with him just once in the movie, have you ever gotten teased that you liked someone. That didn't automatically mean there was gonna be a Cap/Widow pairing.
This romance wasn't as forced as you'd think. I though there were subtle hints of them in the first movie. IN this movie, her feelings are real for Bruce. She's only done that as part of her assignments, and Cap tells Banner that her feelings are real. All other characters in the MCU films have romances and yet people complain about this? COME ON! This was a good character development for her character as well, and how it relates to Bruce's behavior after his rampage caused by Scarlet Witch. I like this romance subplot. Now sure, people think he's gonna get with Betty, that's a given (not mentioned due to Hulk still owning movie rights) But I'm glad they're breaking this cliché. It's just like how I like Superman and Wonder Woman getting together more. Both are strong and have each other’s' back.
And people complain about her being the damsel in distress in this movie. One, she sent out a signal as to where she was. Two, she was a way for Banner to Hulk out, after he tells her he couldn't/didn't want to take part in. A character is only weak is they ACTUALLY DON'T do a single thing, whether it be physical or actually outsmarting or outwitting the bad guy. Why people do not get that, or just flat out refuse to accept that is befuddling to me. Widow was never a damsel.
Last up, Ultron himself.
I know people are bitching about he ain’t made by Hank Pym. A physicist making a bot like him makes no sense, I’m glad they went with Stark on this.
People are bitching that he wasn’t menacing enough or at all. I disagree. The best kinda villains are the ones that keep their cool, and the way he was content about doing this, that’s what was menacing to me. He was a dark mirror version of Tony Stark, and I’m glad they went with it. If they did him here the way he was in cartoons of the past, he’d be like the Terminator or etc. I’m glad they gave him a personality, and I’m glad he wasn’t a carbon copy of Loki. Remember, it’s not that he’s a robot, it’s the AI that controls it, and the way they tied it with the Mind Infinity Stone was interesting. I won’t go into a whole lot, but I don’t think he was a weak villain, not by a long shot. Killian from Iron-Man 3 and Shaw from X-Men: First Class will always be dumbass baddies to me; I don’t care what you say.
Probably gonna ask me, which Quicksilver did I like: here or DOFP. Here, cuz he had more to do, and he was just cooler. DOFP, he was cool, kinda annoying, and overpowered at times, and Fox just loosely hinted about his father being Magneto… add to the pile things that Fox doesn’t bother keeping track of when it comes to these X-Men movies. And the whole debacle about him was cuz Fox still owned him, so maybe that’s why he was killed off.
Other things: I really enjoyed Wanda/Scarlet Witch. Whoooo~!
Vision was DYNAMITE. Paul Bettany did a fantastic job as him and JARVIS. The makeup was some of the best I’ve seen since Hellboy and Abe Sapien. The way he’s made makes more sense when you see it multiple times.
Other things I enjoyed. I’m glad War Machine got to do more since he did almost nothing in Iron-Man 3, and I’m glad he’s part of the Avengers at the end Sam Wilson/Falcon’s in it, but we don’t see him fight, he’s chasing leads on Bucky/Winter Soldier’s whereabouts, but we do see him at the end as and Avenger. I hope we see more of them both come Captain America: Civil War. BTW, Cap’s suit was absolutely awesome in this movie ^^
So yeah, I really liked this movie. I feel a lot of people were disappointed by the title, which is a comic saga where Ultron took over the world, and the only way to stop him was time travel, which is what they used for DOFP. Yeah, his ‘age’ only lasted a week at best. Shoulda been called; ‘Rise of Ultron,’ or just ‘Avengers: Ultron.’ Either way.
So yeah, you don’t gotta take my word for it. Go out and see for yourselves, and if you like it, cool. If not, OK.
Now on for Ant-Man ^^

FA+

ok thats the ony things I see the bad points, Vision... the best characterisation I ever seen, seriously not to much people in comics seen vision like a 0 left, but they imprint to much personality, seriusly I realy like this version of Vision.
Scarlet witch and Quick silver I like how they threat both like 2 childs do everything they want and in the end doing the correct thing, awesome...
Welp to finish, I share the hype and I like this movie, I can realy seen again every time, good evening, good afternoon or morining whatever they seen this comment.
Bye Bye
But I'm glad you like it ^^
He's actually one of my FAVORITE DC heroes, especially in the New 52. For a comparison that Marvel fans would understand, he's... Kind of like a cross between Thor and Namor. Ruling talent and charisma of Marvel's king of Atlantis, and the moral fortitude, confidence, camaraderie, and general personality of Thor. But with a different skill set. He's a badass in his own right, handling many crises on his own, even a few that not even BATMAN would have been able to conquer.
As for hate on Hawkeye himself... He's Marvel's badass archer. You know DC's badass Archer, Oliver Queen AKA the Green Arrow? No one makes fun of his lack of powers, so why make fun of Marvel's equivalent? And Ollie's more gimmicky than Barton! Hawkeye doesn't have to rely on trick arrows, and is professionally rained, rather than self-trained like Oliver Queen. It could be argued he's BETTER than the Green Arrow, so I REALLY don't see why people hate on him so much!
I doubt many comic-book/Marvel fans are hating on Hawkguy, especially given his most recent appearances. The inferiority complex, leading toward bold and mouthy, has been played around a bit, but he's pretty much a fan favorite. This is especially true when he comes with a slice of pizza Dog or a healthy helping of Kate Bishop. It seems more a matter of newcomers to the genre wondering how the "gots skillz" people mesh in a world of literal deities.
It's the same question people ask about Batman from time to time, so at the very least, he's in good company. And yes, there are those who ask that about Ollie as well. Though they're more likely to ask, "isn't that just Batman with boxing glove arrows?" Which, in turn, gave us one of the greatest moments in Arrow-based television.
I'm also not kidding, he moved around like a male model
The thing with people trying to pick up Thor's Hammer was funny. Like when Banner fail to do it and pretend to change into the Hulk. XD
And yet they manage to use that funny scene to make it somethign meaningful later in the movie. ^^
Also, Thor don't think enough before talking. :P
