I am now thoroughly Boned...
Well, I am boned.
My only means of transportation is wrecked. Not many people know, I am poor. I don't own much, and I live a simple modest life. I do not own a car, I can not afford to get one or pay the up keep. So, I ride my bike every where in town to do everything. Groceries, pay bills, go to the post office, etc. I depend on that bike for the last little bit of dignity, and Independence I have. Well, now its gone, and I have no way of replacing it for the foreseeable future. Money is just to tight.
I went out for my morning exercise, before dawn. It was dark and overcast, and had apparently stormed over the night. I took my usual path (nothing special), I just wanted a short “wake me up” ride up and around agri-park (4 miles away), and back. To get my blood pumping. As I came over a hill, and around a curve there was some debris in the path (sticks and leaves), I swerved around it, looking up in just in time to see the rotten black tree trunk that had fallen across the path laying in the shadows.
I hit it... Almost full speed. 10-12 mph.
Its funny how time slows down in those moments. When you know the deed is done, the path chosen was the wrong one. I heard my self say in slow motion, “Oooooooooh Ffffuuuuuuuck!!!” and I jumped as the bike folded against the tree, and the dark ground slowly drifted beneath me. As I sailed 8-10 feet through the air. Coming down on another pile of broken branches, rocks, and leaves. I did a perfect roll, my Sensai would be proud (not really, he was the brooding type). Unfortunately, the debris was like get hit with a dozen billy clubs. I came to rest – what seemed like – far away from the bike. The wind knocked out of me, my arm throbbing, and gasping for breath.
I laid there for a time till I felt like I could move with out further injuring my self, and I wanted to cry when I saw my bike.

The front wheel bent out of shape, the tire flat, and the fork slight bent (which is to most obvious damage). After limping 2.5 miles home dragging my tortured bike all the way. Closer inspection shows the front break bracket bent, and both front and back breaks are seized. That is all I can see at the moment. I am sure there is more damage...
As for me, I just have bruises, and scratches. I bruised the bone of my elbow, my ankle and knee are achy and stiff, and my right side hurts a little. All that was from landing on the debris.
Ether way. With out my bike I am screwed. I have no idea what I am going to do. I blew my savings on a much needed but ultimately failed vacation. So, I am really, really screwed.
*Sigh*

Anyone on here have a bike they want to give to Ryngs or know someone else who does?
SPREAD THE WORD!
Thank you *Bows*
more important, good to hear you yourself are only minorly damaged.
when I was a kid, I mad ean accident with my bike, a rundown pseudo-racing thing. hit a parked car's front bumper, which bent the front wheel and the fork out of shape. so I slaughtered the thing (without ever getting to use any part, since the new bike I got for birthday was much more modern), and put the frame with fork out on the street for the trash truck.
a few weeks later I was alying awake on a saturday morning listening to the radio, where some guy told about a new bike he rebuilt from a discarded frame, with custom parts and stuff. another guy reviewed the result, and mentioned the fork being bent back from what must have been an accident...
and I just knew where that slaughtered bike frame had gone.
Which I ride like a Mountain Bike. Its tough, but not tough enough to stand up against a tree.
Thanks.
Its more common then most want to admit.
Sorry to hear, I don't have a bike, I just walk everywhere. up to 9 miles a day(I live out in the sticks) sometimes when I need to hit grocery and other to dos but the usual is 2-4. I get made fun of all the time because its very American to thing a car=freedom/adult, but I prefer to walk, take buses and carpool.
There is nothing that I know of like a "Bike Church" around here. We are really progressive, and liberal in my town, but not Coastal Progressive.
I will get a around, and I will find away to replace my bike, I just to depressed to see how atm.
Heh yeah Coastal Progressive is hard to explain sometimes, even here away from the coast (but still a coastal state) there is a huge hippie bike community.
It sucks to wreck on a bike though than see it all mangled. I went over the bars when I was little and slid down a gravel driveway and ruined my carebear bike, and I think that disenchanted me on them anyways.
We did, but they seemed to have closed.
Near the University of Arkansas.
However it's not the end of the world......the damage I see in the pic is not that bad. Looks like a front wheel and break adjustment to me, Perhaps an inertube at the most. If the forks are bent back, then simply turn the wheel around 180º then use the weight of the bike and bounce it a couple of Times to straighten it back up.
I used to build bikes and I've seen far worse than this, trust me.
And as
Theirs nothing to be ashamed of in being poor. I've been poor all my life and would have it no other way! What I lack in money, I more than make up for in great friends and family.
I will get it fixed, tho I am worried about frame damage. I can't figure out why the REAR breaks are seized. The mount where the front breaks are are slightly bent, a hammer may fix that. And the forks bend is very slight, but may make the front wheel sit cock-eyed.
I am just to depressed atm to deal with any of this.
You might want to check your break cables first, they may be in a bind causing the rear breaks to seize.
If that is not the case, then just loosen them as much as possible and see if they will release.
To check the frame, simply look down the side of it...if it looks the same on both sides then your good.
However I seriously doubt you have damaged it, that looks like a good brand of bike and those frames are Very stout! Also, the point of impact was at the front, therefore if any damage was done then the front would be the center of focus. Check the "Headstock" where the forks mount to the frame. Look closely at the welds in that location. If they look good, you are fine. Hey I ran a Mountain bike (Mongoose Brand) into the back of a parked car at around 30 MPH! I only had to replace the front wheel and the forks. The frame was fine! Of course I suffered a split lip, three broken teeth several scraps from the impact and My voice was a good three octaves higher for about three hours afterwards. Other than that....everything
was great!
It probably wouldn't hurt to keep an eye out for a few spare parts or old scrape bikes people discard for some spare parts......I used to have a good collection for just such an emergency.
Its heart felt.
If I consider you a friend, then I have no trouble supplying Labor and experience in helping you out.
I do things because it's the Right thing to do...not because of Monetary advancement. It feels good to help someone in need.....Paying forward I suppose.
I wish I was there for many reasons other then a bike. Thanks for the thought. *Bows*
good luck.
I did not want to say it, but its true. I am to damned depressed to deal atm... Thank you for your suggestion, I will find away. *Bows*
Don't despair. That looks quite fixable and I'm sure you can find some options for cheap parts. Some bike aficionados may even be willing to trade their time on an expert repair job for some artwork, perhaps. Keep that chin up!
I can fix it, if I had the parts, but I am worried about possible frame damage. The rear breaks are seized and I can not figure out why.
I will find away. Thank you *Bows*
Thanks for the offer. *Bows*
I got hit by a tree. More correctly, I hit the tree. If you think my bike looks bad, you should have seen the tree. Never Mind it was long dead. I made it more so.
No. I am not to badly hurt.
I have a deep love/hate relationship with my bike. I am true saddened by the extent of the damage, and I am filled with dread at the thought of replacing my bike.
And yes... Ouch.
Thank you *Bows*
Thanks.
You honor me *Bows*
You will bounce back im sure of this.
Thank you.
If you do start accepting donations, alert us here, and some will be on the way for you. I understand your position. My car will barely go 60 miles and I cannot get another one just yet. So I too bike in town. At least it's only 10 miles total, but still without my car, I cannot visit my parents.
First thing though is to see if you can check the frame alignment, if that's bent it might be cheaper/better to look for another bike as I remember replacing parts on a bike that I thought was okay, turns out the frame was bent slightly and it never worked quite as good afterwards.
I'd check around local garage sales and what not, since this is the time of year for all that. You never know what you'll find. You could find an entire new bike, or a bike that has just the size rim you need, or a rim itself... You never know til you check it out :)
