Story Contest 5: Substantial Changes
The astronomers are here with their report and they told me the stars have aligned once again. So we're having another story contest! But be prepared for some changes this time around. Because this contest is about changes.
The theme is Transformation! Things turning into other things. Spectacular events that transcend human understanding. Are they dreadful changes, or the stuff of wishful fantasy? You decide.
Here are the rules:
*The story must contain a character being transformed in some manner. It could be a change in species, size, gender, or anything else you can think of. The method of transformation is also up to you - sorcery, potions and simple surgery are some of the many options.
*The characters can be from anything. Pokemon, Digimon, Monster Hunter, Secret of the Magic Crystals... the choice is yours alone.
The contest will close at the end of July, when the clock turns to midnight, Central European Time. At that moment, a secret cabal of judges will convene to determine which of the entrants most pleases the Lurker at the Threshold, and that person will receive a reward for their service. Then, another winner will be selected at random from the lesser sinners. If there are only one or two submissions in the contest, then they will win by default. Keep in mind that it takes some time for Yog-Sothoth to open a gate to our world, so you must remain patient until the prizes can be delivered to you.
Here are the more technical details:
*Your story has to be a new story; it must not have been published anywhere before the start of this contest. If you had already begun work on a story and it fits the requirements, then you can finish it now and submit it to the contest.
*You may submit only one story. It can be of any length, but the judges will not look kindly upon you if you waste their time with profuse verbiage.
*Please proofread your work. If there is an error in your text then the incantation could be broken and then calamity would befell us all.
The full list of prizes is available below. Each winner may select one game from this list, and in the event that supplies run out, the first winner chooses their prize before the second.

I can't promise I'll complete an entry, but I sure as hell will try.
Speaking of judging (mind, I plan on trying this out for fun and a reason to write, not winning a prize, but still), are there any more specific kinds of criteria you would like to see? Certain aspects to be included? I don't mind working with complete freedom, but if you - er, the secret cabal of judges - had preferences of a kind that might influence what they judge enjoyable or not, it could be useful for the writers.
Or if we're to figure that out on our own, I can totally roll with that. Either way I'll probably be brainstorming some possibilities for the next few days and try to narrow down the resulting list to one idea I can run with.
