How Tilt Longtail got his furrycon spark back
10 years ago
I have been going to furry cons for 10 years now and honestly, they have lost a lot of their appeal.
I felt like I was losing my furrycon spark. NOT my furry spark,,, my furry CON spark.
I still enjoy seeing all my friends and fursuiters and I still have fun at them, but wow, they are getting expensive. My first con 10 years ago was $35 registration and the hotel was $69 a night with free parking. Now,, well you know.
I used to go to 4-5 cons a year, then it was 2 or 3 ,,, now I think the number will drop even lower.
Honestly , 6 weeks ago if I heard that AC was cancelled, I would not have shed a tear. I would have said "Oh well, I will just stay at home and get things done around here and SAVE my money"
I knew I would have a good time at AC but I also said to myself if I am going to continue to go to these furry cons something BIG has to happen. And it did.
When the parade went outside and I saw THOUSANDS of locals holding signs "#Anthrocon" and "we love furries",
.......I cried in fursuit. I FUCKING CRIED IN FURSUIT.
I got my furrycon spark back. After the parade I went right back out and interacted with the locals for well over an hour.
One guy took a pic of me with his kids and said "This is better than Disneyworld and I just saved $2,000 CHA-CHING!"
One old lady who appeared to be alone told me this was better than Christmas Day. BETTER THAN CHRISTMAS DAY.
That is pretty powerful.
I think this is a big turning point for us furries. We are no longer those sick creeps who fuck in our costumes. Now they bring their kids and grandmas to see us. I would not be surprised if the number of locals who come out to see us doubles/TRIPLES next year.
For that and various other reasons I think from now on I will be PLANNING on going to just ONE furrycon a year.
The one that's in Pittsburgh.

I've been in most of the AC fursuit parades, This years was by far the best!
Really glad you had fun with it too and got your batteries recharged, and that you are gunna return to us here in Da'Burgh next year :)
I was unable to make AC this year (our daughter had a baby 7-9-15). I'll give up fur con.'s for the rest of this year and, fill the end of my summer with the MI Renaissance Festival & Furry Meet Ups. As I plan & save for next years FUR CON.S!! Thank you Tilt for making one of my fur con.s memorable with one of the BEST Furry HUGS ever! and, now you know.
It does hurt to decrease the number of cons in a year, but it's a huge money saver.
That story is freaking awesome! Really hope that people change their minds on us furries in the future.
Can't wait to see you next year bud, you're always one of my favorite friends to see, and spend time with c:
It's always a pleasure to see you. I'll certainly return to Anthrocon, next year, and I'll (hopefully) see you there.
Frankly, I'm simultaneously terrified of fursuiters and inspired by them at the same time; I might never walk up and say hello, but I realllllly want to put my own together at some point.
Anthrocon for me is like sitting at the front row of a hometown basketball game and having the team's mascot constantly revving up the crowd. Then he comes to me for a high-five and I just get the coldest feet on Earth. It sucks. But I wanna be like him; like all the suiters out there that do their thing; embody their character and just flat out have a great time!
I have dreams about a big, feral Tyranitar stomping around Anthrocon, and it's totally possible - there's so many examples that it is that I have to at least try and make a suit at some point. I like hearing stories about encouragement - even if they're not explicit like someone telling you upfront that you made their day. Sometimes just seeing a smile crease across someone's face is enough~
Glad to hear you're doing better on the con front; though! (Maybe I'll muster up the courage next year to say hello.) :)
even I wants a fursuit to join you freaks!
My first furry con was the Maltese Fur Con last August. It was a big step in my furry life, and I had fun. I was disappointed that this year's Maltese Fur Con was canceled, but at least it's for the best, especially now that I've been terminated from both of my jobs.
My first really big convention (in terms of size) was Anthro New England back in February. It sure was amazing. I made new friends, met up with some old ones, and there were quite a few people who recognized me from online. I sure can't wait for next year's. (That might be when I finally debut Sidney Kangaroo.)
pittsburgh really touched my heart. just as it did yours, and so many others.
i am so happy i got to experience this.
and i will do everything i can to come back next year!
I'll bring some cookies too.
I'm gonna attempt to hit AC in 2016. I hope to see ya there!
I'm with you.......I was bawling most of the time as well
I like MFF and TFF, and at the moment it's all I can really do, but I do still enjoy cons. :)
This was truly wonderful to read! Thank you so much for sharing it!
I'm crying right now, for joy!
*hugs you tight*
I am glad to hear what you have said and I can only echo your feeling. That parade changed many of us, the ..nothing short of ..tidal wave of emotions that washed over us all that afternoon. It is and will always be one of those lifetime memories that will stay with us all.
All I can say is what I have always said... the magic IS real!
I've never been to one myself, but that's definitely a very encouraging and wonderful experience for both the attendees and the locals.
I hope that this spreads to the other cons.
