Super-Cute Coca-Cola Polar Bear Fursuit [vid]

Slate and
Chromamancer were talking about this suit and I wanted to bring you guys in on the conversation. First of all, I suspect the eyes and mouth are controlled by cameras watching the wearer's face and that there is a camera to let the wearer see out. Can't seem to find more info about its workings, though. (Sounds like it might have been made by the Jim Henson Creature Shop.)Second, I think it's interesting how the suit and the wearer's body language are both designed to make it seem as non-threatening as possible. The suit is fairly toony, but uses fairly realistic materials/colors. The suiter rarely makes sudden movements, almost never moves toward people, and often sits down so people come to him/her. This sort of suit also seems to benefit from the "non-talking mascot" rule, since that would keep people from projecting their own feelings onto the blank canvas (sort of like how you can put Hello Kitty in any context because she always has a neutral expression).

This is exactly the same way the Big Bird puppet is performed for Sesame Street. So it would be old hat to the Henson puppet workshop folks.
