Here it is folks; the official opening of this year’s Express Yourself Contest! Two years back, when the first one came out, we had about 60 submissions. Last year, the number rose to around 80. Think this year, having nearly 500 more watchers then last, we can bring that number to 100 submissions? I think it’s more than achievable.

The purpose of this contest is simple; it’s a way for me and my team to see all the new talent in our community, and also catch up with the evolution of the old. Know that every song submitted will be listened to, and who knows me or Eluti might find some fresh talent to feature after the contest is over!

You are going to be making a one minute long song that you think best expresses yourself. All genres are welcome. No songs, so long as they follow the rules, will be excluded.

So, what are you competing for? After three rounds, first, second, and third place will be chosen by the community, yes, that’s all of you.

First place will receive a music commission from (probably) last year’s contest winner,  Checqz, an art commission from returning artist,  orcaowl, a promotional interview from  KhordKitty and, best of all, a yearlong feature in our Featured Submission Box (seen at the top of the homepage)!

Second place will receive a music submission from our one and only  Eluti and a promotional interview from, again,  KhordKitty

Third place will receive a promotional interview from, you guessed it,  KhordKitty and a super cute Chibi badge commission from  birbseeds

But, to summarize…

Rule 1) Submit all songs for this contest in this journal, not any other, and do not note us.

Rule 2) Your song must be one minute or less (with five seconds of ‘fade out time’ allowed) so the max time for a song is 1:05 minutes

Rule 3) You may submit up to three songs to the contest

Rule 4) Your song must be PG

Rule 5) The song(s) must have been submitted to FA after 2016 (for a point of reference since time zones make it confusing, songs created after this journal qualify)

Rule 6) All genres are welcome

Rule 7) This is more or less optional, but please mention that the song you’ve made is for this year’s Express yourself contest (with a link to this journal or our page if you want to help make this as big as it can be)

Rule 8) Your submission must be submitted to FA. FA must be the only place where this submission is found to prevent vote blocks or other relevant mediums.

Rule 9) Your submission must be an original piece of work. That means no remixes, covers, or karaoke!

Rule 10) You cannot modify your submission in any way after it is submitted to the contest. If you would like to remaster or tweek a song, ask me and I'll fill it in like it's your 2nd or 3rd song slot.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW ANY OF THESE RULES COULD LEAD TO YOUR SONG BEING REMOVED FROM THE CONTEST, OR, IN EXTREAM CASES, YOURSELF TO BE DISQUALIFIED.

NOTE: THIS OPEN BRACKET ROUND OF THE EXPRESS YOURSELF CONTEST WILL BE ENDING ON THE 1ST OF FEBUARY (subject to change)
