I really like Curry Laksa too and though I have not had authentic Laksa from Kuching itself, I intend to at some point. :}
And of course I should pay my respects to the Bapa Malaysia at his memorial in Kuala Lumpur.
I enjoy studying history so I find Malaysian culture and history extremely fascinating as well as its political leaders. Mahatir Mohamad in particular, while controversial both in Malaysia and in the West, is a figure I find very interesting.
But, none the less, it's great you're so interested in it. And, if you do come here in the near future, must sure to visit the cultural villagers. There's where usually where the tourist can see all the different culture and it's own unique history. But, if you want a more authentic experience, ask the locals, they probably will know where the best place to experience it. But, make sure to learn a bit of Bahasa Malaysia first, though. Some of us still not that diverse in English.
Anyway, just gonna say: Selamat Datang ke Malaysia dan terima kasih untuk datang ^^
I definitely want to visit Sabah and Sarawak (but especially Sarawak for Kuching), I do find the history of the Dayaks interesting since they were and sometimes still are a great warrior people, though I also know that the situation of the Dayaks is often difficult because they are non-Bumiputeras. Plus how can I resist all the stories about the Sarawak Rangers? I think that's just awesome ahah.
I definitely want to learn Malay! A bit of Indonesian too since I know the two languages are closely-related and I do want to visit Indonesia at some point.
And, also, make sure to TRY all of our food. Malaysia probably has the most diverse and delicious you will ever try. Where else you can see a Muslim eating Chinese food.
