There's no reason not to debunk these idiotic comments, NOT giving your side of the story can mean that people who perhaps are a little too easily swayed by opinion might get swept up in it, debunking gives them the information they may need to take better more informed action. But don't you think the sheer number of false bids and harassing comments in yesterday's auction is a good enough reason to handle the fake bids in your next auction quietly rather than with a series of "look at the salt" images on Twitter? Again, it comes down to what kind of attention you want to draw, and what kind of reaction -- if any -- you want to give to the people who are trying to get a reaction out of you in the first place.

Getting banned is a strange source of gratification if that is what they are seeking.

The ban hammer let the troll "think" they won. That they have upset a person so much that they took the "easy" way out. You would be suprised how many do this on forums, and online games.

To mention most trolls on this site tend to know unless they actually get a permanent IP ban they can just make another account and continue to do so. Trust I have seen this happen on many occasions. They get bad, make a new account, and then they just continue to harass whoever it was and whoever was part of the part they were trying to troll.

That's called block evasion, and it's easy to report.

Believe me. I want to pat you on the back, give you a thumbs-up, and a "good man" for thinking like this. But the cold, hard fact of the matter is that it's NOT your job to police the furry fandom, nor is it mine, or anybody else in this journal. (Unless, of course, an actual site admin or moderator posts in it... but even then their jurisdiction only extends as far as this site.)

What you're doing is taking on an unwinnable war. You can't purge every troll from the furry fandom -- you can't do that with ANY fandom. It sounds harsh, but all you can do is accept their presence and ignore them. Make liberal use of block lists if you must, but ignore them. This isn't a schoolyard, where a bully can walk over and punch you in the back of the head if you don't respond to their insults. You don't have to treat it as such.

I'm happy to make my contributions. The more content creators that have a zero tolerance policy for bs, the more respectable our community will become. Those that are responsible for policing the community (Admins/Mods) have been doing a fantastic job. It SHOULD be our responsibility to point these users out and draw moral boundaries.

I am concerned quite a few refrain from being as socially active as they would like to be due to this stigma.

By all means point the problem users out to those whose responsibility it is to handle them. But end your involvement there. Don't bring it into the public light, especially not pointing anybody out by name. Having a zero-tolerance policy and drawing moral boundaries doesn't mean you have to be louder than the haters, it simply means you have to be better than them.

I feel like I need to point this line out specifically because I'm not sure if you understand both implications behind it -- the first being that you're behaving no better than the trolls yourself and thus shouldn't be the one to draw "moral boundaries", and the second being that your auction only garnered as much money as it did because of the attention called to it by the trolls.

The second implication in particular is very troubling because it gives the impression that you want more trolling and negative attention in the future, because you want a similar result next time. I know that's not what you're actually trying to say there, but... god dammit, I have to be honest again. You need to put more thought into the things you say and the way others could easily misread them, especially when you're in the midst of what can be best described as a PR nightmare. I've seen so many comments from you the past few days that just have me shutting my eyes and letting out a sigh, knowing that you just fanned the flames.

And it's getting kind of hard to tell if it's intentional or accidental.

Calling attention to what you do is NOT a problem. The problem is doing bad things. The only problem with gloating about doing bad things is that it gets you caught and punished. What Jasonafex has done is at worse ill advised (might attract more trolls), but certainly nothing to get him "caught" or "punished".

And in my opinion, I think the auction would have done better without the trolls, as some honest bidders were scared away by the threats.

The community should make a collaborative effort to reduce such behavior. Work together to show them this isn't going to be put up with.

Maybe things should be done in the shadows, though, so its like BLAM, BANHAMMER out of nowhere, I dunno. But to be honest, these journals are valid in my book. The trolls might get a snicker out of the reaction, but not much more than that. And it also lets people know what's up and perhaps be more aware of such activity to report it.

Please take this sentiment to heart. It's been a little bit painful to see all this attention put on cracking the whip on critics and trolls. Just create your art and say 'to hell with them'. Don't put yourself on a fruitless crusade to end online harassment.

You see, artists don't have the luxury of just ignoring the trolls, especially when it affects our business. Jasonafex is very popular, and people LOVE to see popular people get shit on or be "found out", and choose to believe the rumors. If he ignores them, it makes him look guilty, and people will keep poking and prodding. You have to look at the majority of what people think, not just trolls.

He's handled it in a mature way, being addressing the rumors and debunking him. It's often mistaken as being "mature" by ignoring issues, while that thought process in itself is naive. He's clearly very done with this, at least that's what I get from all this.

Artists have to protect their business, which means facing up to the rumors to debunk them, less you want to look hella guilty about stuff you didn't even do.

I reported someone harassing others on your 'salt journal' and got a nearly instant reply from staff, while all my other tickets (which had more extreme cases) have taken well over a year to even be touched.

Context makes deciphering whether a situation is legitimate or just a personal conflict. In my journal's instance, there's a history of harassment that is easy to identify.

More a case of timing. Unfortunately we were understaffed and dealing with a significant backlog for quite some time, and when that was the case, any given ticket took longer to be addressed since there were others ahead of it in line.

As the backlog has been largely addressed now, responses should be correspondingly more prompt across the board.

It's funny, I've noticed every subsequent journal gets more and more hugboxy as critics are pruned away.

I almost universally loathe any kind of hugbox there is, and it's starting to surprise me by how much of a minority I'm in with that. Seems tons of folks don't mind being in one at all.

And I don't mean just here, I see it all over the place, especially when there's conflict of any kind. People rush for the security of like-minded folks without really noting why they think alike to begin with.

Yup. Exactly the problem. The artist does not get to choose what is a valid criticism. The word and its uses have already been defined long before anyone alive today was born.

Fortunately, at least in my experience, the problem of being unable to take the criticism that comes with popularity as an artist is mainly limited to furry artists. Especially when it has come to the point of someone taking it upon themselves to lead a sort of crusade to end online harassment... or more accurately... end online harassment of popular folk.

But if anything it's been educational for me. But there has always been a truth in this fandom that I have witnessed time and time again: popularity fades away, moreso with the self-righteous. Just takes time.

What's also fascinating is how people who are sensitive to criticism will have this sort of expectation of the public either telling them how good their work is (ego stroking), give constructive criticism (also know as critique) or keep their mouths shut.

ah yes the unnecessary and childish drama that happens often in the fandom because of popularity etc that makes furries seem like teen gossiping girls. This actually strikes me as a really, really self-centered thing to say. Before I get to the first sentence, let me address the second one: It looks like you're downplaying Kabier's skill and the effort she puts into her art. Saying "I take longer to animate something than Kabier takes to draw it" makes it sound like you simply work harder than she does and deserve more recognition. Yes, I know that wasn't what you're trying to say, but just like above it's about implications.

Further, effort does not equate to time spent, or even results. Effort is simply that -- how much work somebody puts into something. It's possible for somebody to expend quite a bit of effort in a short amount of time, or no effort whatsoever drawn over a longer period. Somebody can put a lot of effort into something and have it look terrible compared to something that a more talented artist didn't even have to try with. Effort is subjective depending on the individual, and there's no concrete way to determine who puts more effort into something when you're only looking at the end result, not the process used to create it.

Now, as for "if what I do is so easy", it is. Don't lie to yourself. Compared to other forms of animation that others create, what you do is very easy. Once again, however, it's subjective based on an individual's set of skills. To say that others who use more advanced and difficult forms of animation haven't eclipsed you in popularity, and thus aren't working harder than you do, is not only self-centered, but it also serves to slap those other animators in the face.

Saying "If somebody was better than me, they'd be more popular than me," or saying "If what I did was easy, literally anybody could do it," just reeks of narcissism.

If you are admitting nothing the accused can say can invalidate your accusations, that just blind bias. Like it or not, these animations do take substantial time and effort.

I have to say that your work does take time to do. So does mine. The difference is the medium we choose. I can say it's pure jealousy that makes people say things about your work. If your work is so easy why don't they just contact some pop fur and attempt to animate the picture themselves? Because they find out that after effects (if that is what you use) takes time and patience to use. You have to learn the program and you have to get a style to it. You have style and you have your program. I think you do great work personally. It's not always my cup of tea, but it comes out looking very nice and you add your own flair to it.

People get jealous because they see someone getting more popular than they are. But how is it different? They are piggy backing off someone's hard work. Most of these 3D artists I see don't make their own models. They use that horrid Krystal model or Melody and Micah by Lady Littlefox. They use someone else's work and expect the fans to come flocking in. When they don't and they see someone getting more popular and using someone else's work they get jealous. Getting jealous off of something they believe is easy. I tell everyone who tells me that my work is easy to try it. Try to make, rig, and texture a model. If they learn how and get fans... Good on them. If they give up and keep claiming my work is easy they can STFU because it's not.

Same with you... Someone fighting with you because oh, dear god you went and made money with your craft and you don't hand draw every frame yourself... Shame!! Bah... They can STFU too. Everyone has their own medium and style and they should stick with evolving themselves and their crafts before they go beating on their neighbor's door. Kagesan works in 3D and you work with 2D. It's two different worlds and I don't think he should compare what he does with what you do. No one should... Just because they didn't think of doing it first...

Jasonafex only animates the work of already extremely popular artists, no one would care if he animated things by people with less than 2500 watchers. Talent and effort have never meant anything on FA.

Because from what I've seen overall, most prefer to actually create their own animations with frame-by-frame or 3D software or what-have-you.

Your method of animating is not very popular in terms of how much is made - I honestly can't think of any other artist that consistently does this same kind of animation. I've seen a few submissions here and there from folks with it, but you're the only one I know of who sticks to it.

But I see tons and tons of other animations out there made with a different method. I can't imagine why that would be so unless those creators enjoy it more.

I must agree. But the popularity that stems from a fandom in which the masses are very easily appeased leads to the problem you are describing. Hard work and effort always depends on the individual. Even newbies starting out whose art looks like shit, to put it bluntly, put in hours of time and effort. As time passes that time and effort in regards to the quality level should natural decrease. In my opinion this is what separates the professionals from the hobbyists in regards to this topic.

Humility is also a factor as well and seems to be someone lacking among popular furries some of whom act as if they are some sort of A-list celebrity. O.o problem is their fans enable it as do people throwing cash their way on a regular basis. Money and ego stroking will often trump logic and common sense. We see this in politics every day.

It's because some people can't stand when others are successful. They don't see themselves as having talent and initiative, so the waste their talent and initiative on trying to bring successful people down.

Seen others not take critique at first causing some drama. Though they have given reason. IE a pose could be made to look good rather than to look right. Thats fine but one should come out with it straight away as that.

1) It seems that the boiling point of all of this was only a few weeks back when that journal exploded with negative comments. It's likely been bubbling under the surface before but I can honestly say that was when I noticed anything bad being said about you.

2) 6ft is just as easy to take down as any other height. You just gotta change your targets and tactics. Height normally just dictates your center of gravity, not overall stopping power. Just saying, it's still possible. People just swing to win now, no fitness in battle. -_-

1) We've had stupid threads made in our honor for the last year. The only difference is pointing them out/giving them attention.

$300,000 for a game primarily consisting of sprites and illustrations is retarded. 3D is only planned to be present in a primitive format for combat. Even then, we are capable of downgrading to Spine (2D) and still be able to make the game, it depends on what budget we are given. The reason Beast's Fury did so terribly because they tried to recreate Skullgirls ($245,000 for one character) with absolutely no idea what they were doing financially.

If the "troll" puts forth a real, good disputed concept, shoot that shit down hard. For example the concept that the money he got to repair his home was misused. Post bills (with the pertinent parts hidden) giving the lie to said accusations. Give details on any "no, that's not true" comments that make the person look even more of a fool than they do by saying things like "let's mess up his paypal!". And if it's just some stupid comment, pretend you're dealing with the poor, unpopular, childish, "still lives in momma's basement" type that you probably are and don't even get concerned.

Best of all things to do is police yourself as well. If you do nothing to get people to make such comments, they won't be able to make any that matter, thus allowing you to ignore all the rest.

The only negative gossip i hear on a somewhat regular basis is the "Jasonafex is a hack for planning a future game/Beast's Fury 2.0".
All the other ones i actually never heard of except the Kabier is a whore but last time i heard of that was a year or so ago.
Then again I dont go around looking for gossip the only time i hear bad gossip is if it gets big enough then my friends talk about it. That doesn't mean they believe though.

Jason appears to be trying to move on from this, but sadly those opposed to him seem reluctant to put down the poker and just get on with time. On the comments section to his submission both on FA and e621, there's still people trying to force the elephant into the room, and then hypocritically blasting Jason when he mentions it in a journal. To be honest, they have no reason to complain about Jason acknowledging them by posting journals and supposedly "dragging this out" when they themselves are guilty of doing the same. If they really didn't care about Jason's practices and felt he was dead in the water, then why do they feel the need to continuously give his pages traffic by viewing his submissions, reading his journals and commenting whatever intriguing critique they have for him. Surely that's counter-productive to the statement they're trying to make.

Now, don't get me wrong. Jason has made quite a few cock-ups, especially with that meltdown on e621 - very similar to TotalBiscuit's Reddit meltdown - and in hindsight, he could have responded much better to the comments than he did. But sadly, whatever sympathy I have for those arguing against Jason is continuously running out, due to their overall refusal to let it go, and instead continuing this ridiculously petty charade, which is essentially the equivalent of insistently poking a lion with a stick, looking for a reaction, and then crying foul when the lion inevitably lashes out. Plus, some of these people really didn't do their argument any favours by going over to the profiles of those who bid in Jason's YCH auction, and curse them out for having the sheer audacity to contribute to Jason's "piggybacking".

Once again, if you attack someone personally, you've just lost whatever argument you're trying to put forward.

This doesn't seem like an argument. It seemed more like him listing a bunch of stupid furry bullshit that people who don't like him have been saying, trying to make him look bad.

Two:

The concept that "someone doesn't like you; you should stand there and let them talk shit to you and just take it when you can neither change their minds nor explain anything to them well enough to get them to stop" has been floating around for some time now. I, and most other people, yourself included, don't understand this concept.

That said, I haven't seen "Bob the kitty"'s comments. For all I know he was discussing things in a sensible, knowledge seeking manner. Is that the case? Or was he just accusing Jason of stuff and then not paying any attention to any replies he got? I have a strong feeling that the latter is the case. "Oh, you can say what you want, but *I* know how things *REALLY* are!" or "Sure, maybe you say that, but the *FACT* of the matter is...!" types of comments.

To be short, time isn't so much the factor in my opinion, as much as effort. Simply because you get better at things the effort required remains the same while the time til completion goes down. And that's why you would find your craft easy, I find the things I do to be easy as well, but I know many, who are also claiming to be within my field, that don't know up from down. So yes, you do animate images created by other artists... It's not as if you don't credit them or say you were alone in the endeavor. Alternatively, just because it's animated are we, as watchers and viewers, supposed to like it less?

Show me some actual evidence of Jasonafex doing something abusive, illegal, generally nasty, etc etc and my opinion on his attitude may change, but my opinion on how idiotic and unjustified these lies are likely will not. All the evidence I need to see that they are being vile is right there, show me something to the contrary, show me and anyone else who thinks these people are wrong, that they are justified.

I myself have spoken a little with Kabier and you on rare occasions and both of you have always been really nice and offered pointers for any art struggles I have had. I have only had motivating words from you both, and those always helped me push myself to be better. If you are such awful people that love to swindle the community you wouldn't have done and said the sorts of things you have said.
