Rhode Island Furries - Code of Conduct
Updated March 2016
This document is the Code of Conduct for the Rhode Island Furry community (also referred to as Rhode Island Furs). The rules in this document pertain to all official and unofficial meets run by any member of the local community, chat rooms, social media sites and any associated websites, such as the official Facebook and Fur Affinity pages. From the date of this posting forward, the rules contained within this document are to be abided by all of the members of the community with no exceptions. At any time, the administration and staff of the Rhode Island Furs may change this document with or without notice. These rules are not only for your own safety and peace of mind, but that of others and to keep civility amongst peers.
If you see any violation to anything referenced in this Code of Conduct, please report it to an administrator or staff member as soon as possible. It is highly advised not to deal with the problem yourself. The Staff is there for your safety and well-being.
Guidelines for official meets
* If any event requires attendees to sign-in upon arrival, signing-in is mandatory. Please locate a staff member or host to sign-in to the event. Signing-in is a vital part of each meet because it informs us of who is in attendance in case there is a request for it. Please RSVP whenever possible.
* Some events may require a parent or guardian’s permission or attendance if the attendee is a minor under the age of 18. Please see the details of the event in question.
* If an event requires attendees to pay, please pay what you are asked for. Do not attempt to leave the event without paying. This includes events with private businesses involved, such as restaurants, stores, movie theaters and bowling alleys.
* Physical violence and bullying between attendees will not be tolerated, and the individuals involved will be asked to leave the venue immediately. Law enforcement may be contacted if such an incident occurs. (See Disciplinary Actions.)
* There is zero tolerance to those who bring weapons of any kind to any event, whether or not intending to harm an attendee or a member of the general public. This will result in a permanent ban. (See Disciplinary Actions.)
* Do not wear clothing that is overly revealing or inappropriate (such as fetish or BDSM gear) or you will be asked to remove it and change into something else. Tails, ears, collars and other furry accessories are allowed, but the only exception to this rule is leashes.
* The Staff is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items/property. If you lose an item or find a lost item during an event, please contact a staff member or event host as soon as possible. If there is a private business involved, they will contact management for assistance. If the RI Fur Staff is in possession of a lost item, they will hold onto it for a period of time until it is claimed.
* If a member of the community requires payment for gas in order to transport you to and from the meet (carpooling), you are responsible to pay that member your fair share. If you do not pay, that member has the right to report the issue to the Staff.
Guidelines for unofficial meets
* Hosts are allowed to have their own separate rules for their own events, but they are required to make them known when they announce an event. Hosts may also use the rules stated above for the guidelines for official meets.
* Hosts are allowed to remove any individual from an event if a problem becomes too severe. If an incident occurs that causes an attendee to be removed, the Host is required to report the incident to the Staff. Hosts also have the right to restrict certain individuals from attending their own meets.
* Please note that the Rhode Island Furry community cannot be held responsible for any personal or general problems that occur in these unofficial gatherings. The Staff will deal with any issues reported to us as best as they can. Please contact the Staff as soon as possible.
* Signing-in is optional, though it is expected for event hosts to be aware of who is attending a meet. Please RSVP whenever possible.
Guidelines for public behavior
Be Respectful
* Attendees to all events, both official and unofficial, must be on their best behavior. You are not only representing our group, but the Furry Fandom as well. Please keep all activity to a family-friendly G or PG rating. Any inappropriate behavior such as rough-housing, bullying, physical or sexual harassment, vandalism, excessive swearing, inappropriate displays of affection and sexually suggestive behavior will be restricted. Any nudity, overly revealing or inappropriate clothing will be dealt with as well.
* If you are taking pictures of another attendee or someone from the general public, please ask for their permission. If you are posting the picture online, please ask for their consent to post it. This is required and falls under state laws.
Be Responsible
* The Rhode Island Furry community offers you the ability to socialize and interact with like-minded individuals in a safe and friendly environment.
* The Rhode Island Furry community is not designed as a means for a dating service or to advertise and solicit any services that are not pre-approved by the Staff. This group was created for meeting and socializing with like-minded individuals and for establishing local meets and it should be treated as such.
Be Law-Abiding
* In addition to upholding this Code of Conduct, you are responsible for adhering to all Federal, state and local laws that pertain to the location of any event, whether in the State of Rhode Island or not. This includes consumption of alcohol in moderation (only by those 21 and older), smoking (cigars, cigarettes (including electronic ones) and vapes), possession of a weapon, sexual behavior, physical violence, drug use, etc.
Guidelines for online behavior
Online services include chat rooms, websites and social media sites and apps.
* All the rules stated within the Public Behavior section above also apply to online services as well.
* Please treat all other online participants with respect and do not use the Rhode Island Furs’ official websites and chat rooms to threaten, harass, stalk or abuse other users. Bullying of any kind will not be tolerated and will result in immediate banishment. Whether the banishment will be temporary or permanent will depend upon the incident.
* The Rhode Island Furry community does not allow behavior or content related to illegal activities. You cannot use the Rhode Island Furry community to publish, post, distribute, or disseminate defamatory, infringing, obscene or other unlawful material or discussion. This includes, but is not limited to, child pornography, bestiality, incest, illegal drugs, software piracy and harassment.
* The Staff reserves the right to remove user-created services and content that advocate or encourage expressions of violence, bigotry, racism, hatred, obscenity or profanity. They may at will and without notice remove postings or ban participants that are deemed objectionable or violate this Code of Conduct.
* Impersonating a Staff member or another user is forbidden.
* Do not spam others. Spam includes sending identical and irrelevant or unsolicited submissions to many different users and includes misrepresenting the source of anything you post. Spamming and trolling in chat rooms are serious violations of online etiquette.
* Do not post private information of other individuals without their permission.
* Do not provide links to external sites that violate this Code of Conduct.
* Do not upload files or post messages that contain photos, music, software or other material protected by intellectual property laws, rights of privacy or any other applicable law unless you own or control the rights thereto or have received all necessary consents. The Staff is not responsible for any use of material posted by others.
* Do not post or promote any materials that could harm or disrupt another user’s computer or would allow others to inappropriately access software or websites.
* You are responsible for any actions you may take based on advice or information you receive online. Use your own judgement when evaluating information provided through any communication service and remember that the information provided could be from people at any age and experience level. The decision to conduct transactions is your own and you should perform your own research prior to making any decisions.
* Staff members have the right to remove you from the group if you ignore warnings to stop. Any staff member will contact you after your removal to discuss the result of your actions and whether you will be allowed back in or not.
* If you have been removed from an online service and feel that it was unjust, please contact a staff member or an administrator and the Staff will hold a meeting about the situation to resolve it.
Reporting Problems or Incidents
* Reporting a problem as soon as it happens is extremely important because it allows the Staff to make an accurate and swift decision. The more time that passes, the less the Staff can do about it. There are statutes of limitations in some cases.
* It is important to know that the Staff handles any problem that occurs at our events very seriously. If you have an issue and wish to not have the other party informed, please let the Staff know about it. They will keep the incident noted for future reference.
* To report an issue, simply contact a staff member in person or online. Please make note that upon your request, your identity will not be revealed. If you believe that revealing your name would escalate the problem, the Staff will respect that and try to deal with the situation while upholding that request. Any problem reported to the Staff will not be made public.
Disciplinary Actions
If a member of the Rhode Island Furry community is found to be in violation of the rules set forth in this Code of Conduct, a “three strikes” rule is in effect. Offenses can be removed after a six-month period due to good behavior upon the judgement of the Staff. Disciplinary actions for violations will be issued as follows:
* First offense: You will receive a notice by a staff member that you have violated the Code of Conduct and be spoken to about your offense with details about your violation. This is your first warning.
* Second offense: You will receive a temporary ban. You will not be allowed to attend any official meets and/or participate in online services for a period of time. The length of time will depend on the severity of the incident.
* Third offense: You will receive a permanent ban. You will not be allowed to attend any official meets and will be blocked from any related online services. In addition, individuals ignoring their bans will be treated as hostile. If necessary, law enforcement may be contacted.
