Serious business; vote with your wallet
Part of the reason I have posted this here, and want to keep up alternate galleries, aside from increased exposure is, quite simply, a lot of people are really upset with some of the stuff that FA has been doing.
I have no particular loyalty to FA~ I just post my stuff here because it's where the people are! It's where I can get paid to draw! I pay for all of my bills through drawing!
I can imagine that, this is the reason that most of the furry artists focus here~
...
Now, I am not trying to tell anyone what they should do or things, but for those of you who are mad about what those in charge of this site are doing, those of you who might want the furry fandom to move to some other site;
Commission artists through other sites!
Now, again, I am not telling you that you SHOULD leave or anything, but if you want to, and you want your favorite artists to focus their attention on another website, encourage them by only commissioning them through your preferred site.
The more people that do this, the more likely it is that a change will happen.
Those of you who want to move to another site, but don't commission people?
Go to your preferred site, and write nice comments on the work of the artists who are there~
Some nice words make it a lot more appealing to pay more attention to a place, believe me! <3
And artists who might want to move to someplace else? Why not make sure people know where else they can find you? Tell your followers about your preferred place!
Don't be pushy or anything, but do your best to show them why the new place is worth their time!
And just in general, make sure you are plenty available in the new place! c:
Above all else, for everyone, be nice, and encouraging! You're not going to convince anyone to go anywhere by beating them over the head with it.
I just want our community to hang out in good internet spaces. If it is here on FA, I want FA to improve. How is it best to go about achieving that? I am not sure, but with most businesses, the best way to get them to change, to be better, is to vote with your wallet. If the commissioners leave FA, the artists will likely follow them, and then so will everyone else.
If that really starts happening, well, hopefully where ever the fandom ends up, be it here, or elsewhere, will be a better place when everything settles~

FA+

So, some people are upset~ I just thought I would put up my thoughts about the situation, to those that are mad about the situation~
That's garbage, but it's not too surprising either. A remnant of the old ways of the FA administration.
Or, if the artists move their YCHs to other places, then those people very well may follow, if only to participate.
But until then, folks are more than happy to offer 'big' money here, so artists have no reason to move.
If the commissioners start buying art from other sites, it will be good incentive for artists to shift their attention to those sites.
Likewise, if popular artists start paying more attention to the other sites, people will follow them.
I'm glad I helped you think about it in a different way! ^^
We have two additional obstacles. Every site has its own options, look, feel, layout. Some like me are resistant to change and get easily confused on how best to enjoy our content on a new site. More importantly, there is no consensus on where to take shelter when we leave FA. I'm sure I speak for others when I say that I don't want to and don't have the time to check a dozen different websites, artist's personal pages and twitters, pick your favorite excessively unnecessary social media outlet.
Like you said, I have no loyalty to FA. I'm just here because most other people are too.
But simply, if you want other places to grow, or artists to go to another place in particular, the best way I can think to do that is to support the artists who do business there. The more people that do this kind of thing, the more likely that other people may follow.
It is definitely hard to pick one place to go to though, I will agree with you~
...And though I don't have much to say myself, I felt this was at least worth saying.
I personally kind of like the way FA looks, though there are a lot of things missing and I'd probably look somewhere else if I knew people to talk to and had some things haha
It needs to be worth people's time to hang out at the new place. If one is an artist who isn't relying on the art for payment, they can afford to stick it out in the new places and try to grow the business there, but generally an artist who does rely on the the paying portion of the fandom is going to have a really hard time surviving if they focus their attentions in a place where people do not pay. So their choices are really limited.
If the people who pay for art start spending money on other sites, it might draw some of the fanbase to someplace better than FA, which in turn might encourage FA to be better.
Basically, Weasyl was a shiny new thing a while back. Then the newness wore off, and people found that it's not capable of much more than FA is. I know that just looking at the numbers on my own art, the traffic that goes through there hardly holds a candle to what FA gets, and the general interaction there is super low by comparison too! You rarely get anyone talking, and I don't think I have ever received a single commission request there~
Basically, I am happy to crosspost my stuff there when I remember to do it, but it isn't really worth my time to do it, honestly.
If, however, there were a few people now and then asking about commissions there, then I would at least I could justify trying to focus some business there.
I don't mean to sound entitled or anything, but, if there appear to be no business prospects in a place, then it is not really worth trying to sell there.
And if an artist can't sell their art in a place, why should they even really bother taking the time to set it up there?
Sorry for rambling! XD
It is late~
it's probably just as annoying for them to try to find out where all their customers are going haha
I just want things to be better for everyone~ c:
if I made the think I was thinking of, I'm so disconnected I'd make it only really things I like and not what other people like and it would go downhill from there,so I'm not so qualified lol
The way I see it, every huge corporation is gonna have their heads up their asses one way or another. Just enjoy what you enjoy. ^w^
