Deep Rising

A freelance boat operator (who takes cash up front with no questions asked) has the task of hauling a group of pirates out to a giant, ultra-luxurious cruise ship in the middle of the sea. Upon arriving (with the intent to rob it), they find that the ship is a mess and completely deserted. As they move through the ship it soon becomes apparent that there is something there, something that starts picking off members of the group one by one... specifically, a giant tentacle monster that eats people and sucks the juice right out of their body (relax, that's not really a spoiler). Now it's up to the heroic captain, his wise-cracking sidekick, and a beautiful thief to stop the creature and get out with their precious bodily fluids intact.

As I've said a couple times before, I love a good B-movie creature feature. And this is one of the best. It's got everything it should have: decent jokes and one-liners, a group of delightfully-ethnically-mixed characters, big guns, badass personalities, a large yet isolated area to stumble around in, good CGI, and a giant monster that eats people, can sneak up on them, and passes plenty of blood around. Sure, it's not a squad of an elite military group going in, but high-tech pirates is just as good.

There isn't much more to say about this one, really. It's a group movie, best watched with a group of friends in high spirits late at night. It's got plenty of action (gunfights and explosions abound. And Jet Skis! Can't have a good movie these days without jet Skis, everyone knows that), comedy, little T&A, and plenty of the red stuff. And for a little perspective, it was made by Stephen Sommers right before he made The Mummy. So take the general tone of that movie, make it R-rated, and here you are.

It's an entirely fun B-movie, so sit back, relax, and enjoy it :D
