TL;DR
-Wasn't able to start my job because of the cruise line fucking up
-I have no money coming in because I quit my day job,cancelled my gigs for spring/summer
-I DM'd the cruise line they sent the DM's to my agent,agent fussed,they also sent DM's to corporate
-Did I mention I'm broke now because of something beyond my control?
So as you can see I'm still stuck in Maryland....and I didn't start my job....why?
Well heres what happened.
My agent thats been with me since my mentor introduced me to him to get through all the requirements of this cruise ship job emailed me saying "Hey I have some good news and some bad news" and then he calls me saying along the lines of the bad news being "the entertainment manager of my new employer got promoted and some paperwork got mixed up or missing for some new hires and you were one of the few that got paperwork mixed up." I'm in too much shock to rage or snap but he could tell in my voice that I was worried and shooken up.
Then he said "The good news is you're still hired and approved so I can call you for subwork" which made my blood boil because there IS NOTHING set in stone for this subwork.
We talked a bit more and once we hung up I sent him a email of how I really felt and I told him it was nothing against him but how the cruise liner fucked up. Like seriously how can a INTERNATIONAL company like that fuck up like this?!
Oh you think it gets any better?
OH Boy does it ever.
So Im freaking out, because
1. I quit my part time day job
2. I cancelled all my gigs and plans for the Spring/Summer
3. My savings for recording in London with
foxamoore have been depleted because of their employment requirements
4. I HAVE NO MONEY INCOMING because of this fuck up
So I took the initiative on contacting the cruise line myself via twitter first I @'d them asking if they could follow me so I can DM them because I have a few questions to ask.
Then they said "We have too many guests to follow, just follow us and you can DM us that way"
So I DM'd them saying "Hello I'm sending a message out of Concern, I was recently hired by your company to be a musician on one of your ships and I was told some paperwork went missing and i'm supposed to leave for rehearsal for a few days. Now I can't because of this supposed missing paperwork even though I'm still hired. I quit my day job and cancelled all my gigs for the spring/summer for this opportunity and then this happens is there anyone I can call or talk to about this?"
all I got was "We're looking into this for you" then I give my thanks
A few minutes later my agent emails me saying that Carnival sent him a screen shot of the DM and how it wasn't a good look on both our parts and don't think it was a good idea to do what I did.
Minutes later he was told by my agent That the DM's were sent to the higher ups and he passively started to condemn me.
at this point i had to professionally say "fuck your thoughts, you're fucking with my money" so what I said was
"If you feel it wasn't a smart move so be it but, multiple people's lives and my personal life is on the line here and I'm doing my best to figure out what I can do for myself at the moment and as well I appreciate what you're doing but again I have no income due to all of this and money is being messed with and like any other musician I don't like that."
In fact I'm glad my DM's were sent to the higher ups because it was professional and wasn't hostile. If I do loose my job because of this you better believe if musicians ask about this cruise liner I'll tell them to go the other way.
I'll keep most of you guys who care updated on everything but I am NOT a happy panda right now....

I don't know why your agent is freaking out if the DM you sent was professional and polite. I mean, how else are you supposed to contact this place about your concerns? Unless the agent is upset you're stepping on his toes in contacting them yourself, but like you said, he's fucking with your livelihood so you can't just sit on your hands and wait. Truth of the matter is, they have no room to say "this doesn't look good on you" when they're the ones who fucked up some simple paperwork, and they're supposed to be a respectable company? Please.
I hope it works out and you get on the cruise soon. Then this will all be just a small snag in the process. But the cruise is still happening and as of now you're still the drummer, and how long can it possibly take to find paperwork? (don't answer that). I would think that it would be easier to fill out the paperwork again, but what do I know?

In fact, that being said....unprofessional could have been you aired your concerns Publicly, rather than privately like you did.
Instead they're trying to make you a scapegoat, and I'd go as far as saying Bullying you so that you'll drop it.
But don't. Don't drop it. Remember, bad news travels fastest via word of mouth of a dissatisfied worker/customer and this sort of action is deplorable of them. For your sake and all other involved, I hope this gets cleared up!
People. The company is run by people, and people make mistakes.
A good company should strive to fix their mistakes, and replace the
missing paperwork, or pay you an advance to tide you over until you
are at work on a cruise.
And I don't think that being honest about how their mistake affects
you is wrong. Unless your agent isn't telling you something...
