What I've been up to, ideas for the future & Patreon Launch!
9 years ago
I'm really bad about updating about me and my life on here! IDK what's up with that, haha!
I got back from Grand Teton with Light Grey Art Lab almost two weeks ago, which was amazing! SKYRIM IS ACTUALLY A REAL PLACE YOU GUYS!!! It was gorgeous, and gave me so much ammo for environment work -- really inspiring. Just looking at it, too, helped me understand how mountains work. I CAN DRAW BETTER ROCKS NOW U GUYS LOL
Also, If you haven't noticed (aka, if you haven't been on my Twitter for more than five seconds), I have been so into astrology since last December. If you aren't aware, there is a lot more to it than sun signs! There's even a lot more to it than Sun, Moon, Rising, Mercury, Venus, Mars, etc signs! Astrology has changed and improved my life and my confidence in so many ways that other, more traditional interventions have not, and it's something I want to share and pursue on a professional level, so that's going to be a big part of my direction :> It's... been a really long and wayward path towards deciding what I want to be when I grow up (when will I grow up!!), but the encouragement I've gotten from astrology and from other people interested in astrology confirms that it is a Real Calling :>
And on a note of more general interest, I have been tossing around a lot of ideas for things I can do with art! For starters, I'd like to make several small gumroad tutorials for maybe like $5-$10 dollars a pop! I'm considering doing things like lighting/mood and how I think about shapes and appeal, and also more technical stuff like linework maybe?? Maybe longer process videos for larger pieces, if I can get my surface to cooperate with that LOL. Anything else you guys would be interested in? Leave me a comment if so! :D
I'm also planning a comic! I'm at a point in the plot where I can start creating concept art, which is exciting to me! I've never felt I had enough direction to do so, but I'd love to toss around visual concepts, now that I have a story framework to work with!
It's Yassir's story that I'm working on-- let me tell you, this character has grown so much in the 3 years since I created him :') MY BABBY IS ALL GROWN UP!!! Maybe. Almost. I'll share a little bit about the gist of the story, for those of you who might be interested--
Yassir is a scholar and an alchemist. He's actually a dude, not [normally] a cat, but humans are still hard for me to draw lmao so I have only drawn him as a cat, for the most part!! The human side of his story takes place in AU France and I'm super excited about drawing all those cool buildings [really] [i really am] [except for the actual drawing them part] [they're gorgeous tho] [and maybe I'll get good at it!]. He wakes up at some point and finds himself in a strange, surreal labyrinth (it's a massive labyrinth, home to several societies and plenty of wilderness), taking the form of a caracal with a lion's tail, though he isn't sure why (hint: take a look at the constellation Lynx) at first. His life's work was the search for the philosopher's stone, and he came close to achieving it, but shot himself in the foot enough times that he was largely unable to. Of course, finding (or creating) the stone is what he needs to do to get out of the maze and back home, but even though he came so close, finding the rest is not as easy as completing the formula.
His story is looking like something of an epic, because short is impossible for me and I'm just going to accept it and do comics the ~wrong way~ by starting with something way too long :^)
I'm also launching a Patreon in order to make time for more personal stuff! There I will include a sketch feed for both tiers, and some extra goodies and concept work for my comic for the higher tier. Some completed concept art (of the more finished sort) will be released publicly as some of the personal art this Patreon is meant to fund (though I will be creating unrelated personal pieces as well), but the majority of it will be exclusive until the comic gets off the ground. If you're interested in the comic especially, please consider donating, as less time spent on commissions is more time to spend on creating this sort of work! ;v;
A few more things I'm considering in the future: a Tarot deck (I know, everyone does them, but I REALLY WANNA), astrologically themed art, artbooks and sketchbooks for sale, and maybe more merch? Maybe even crafty stuff! We will see! :D
Also, if there's anything you'd like to see re: rewards, I'd be happy to consider it! Things like streams I can't promise, since my living situation is so odd and uncomfortable (too many interruptions!!) and I've taken to using my surface exclusively which doesn't have a lot of screen real estate, but I'd be happy to hear any other ideas!
My Patreon is up! Pledge here if you are so inclined! :) Thank you for your support!

AAA I'm so excited for you!! This comic idea sounds amazing and magical, and I can't wait to see some of the things you come up with! I'm also so glad to hear that you've found a niche in astrology. I admittedly don't know much about it, but I love personality stuff so much, and as someone who found a lot of solace in the MBTI community a few years back, I can definitely understand how whole it makes you feel. <3
Okay apologies, I GUESS I'M BLIND OR SOMETHING, but I can't find your twitter!! I'm most active there and I def wanna follow you, if that's okay. <3
Good luck with everything! I'm so glad you're pouring yourself into your work and creating beautiful art! I've missed seeing it. :D
And thank you so much ;v; MAN I love astrology because it's like MBTI all amped up! Understanding yourself and other people and what makes everyone tick... it's really great!! I think it did for me what MBTI did for a second time, TBH!!
