From what I see, I think you could build your avi from few parts, but it might be difficult to find a suitable hair

Bit overwhelming, what guide did you have?

Check out Truth Hair, they have a really good selection of hair and it's pretty much all I use. Now as for the skin, shape, etc you can find modelers in SL or even on Fa that can help. It's not so much the shape you need to worry about but the skin. If you go mesh you can make your own shape pretty easily. (Except maybe your head. You'll need to buy an Anthro head probably) I wish my desktop was working or I'd log on to send you MP links and LM's of various places you can shop at.

Altering your shape is like any game out there with character creation. So if you've ever done that before you'll do fine in shape editing.

I haven't done much of it, I generally like being a common character but I guess I can always learn since I have messed around in SOME games with it lol

Just remember to save a back up of the original before you start altering it~
