So looking forward no as there's still a hard drive, you should still be able to recover the data at least. You may be able to install the hard drive on a new laptop or connect to it to clone the data to a new HD.

Depends if its a laptop designed to have its parts removed, if not, it'll probably need to be looked at by someone to recover it.

If the problem was with the hard drive, it would likely power up, and allow you into BIOS.

So the hard drive is probably okay.

You can get adapters that will allow you to plug the old hard drive into a usb port.

Once all data has been recovered, the old drive can be wiped and used for backup.

Drive caddies are cheap so you can get the data off it easy.

But if it won't start into the BIOS it won't be easy to diagnose.

On a long shot, pop the battery out, plug it in and attempt to boot. if it works, the charging circuitry is toast. I had a laptop like that once.

Well, the laptop mght die, but the hard drive might still be fine. In which case, simply removing it and pluggint it into a desktop PC will let you back stuff up.
