Just a bit of a poll.. See who is interested and in what levels.
I am currently around LVL N3. Lower intermediate.
No, I am not a qualified teacher.. Yet ( though I do hope to one day get my license for teaching Japanese.. I have it for English) I live in Japan, and use Japanese daily though, but my reading skills are very low.
1. Complete beginner UPDATE This class begins Friday the 26th August, 2016
2. Beginner ( know hiragana and Katakana, but under 100 kanji) N5
3. Intermediate (maybe we can study together??) N4/3
I would like to start a "class" for complete beginners or for a review for those who have already dipped into it.
My plan would be to give links to free lessons on Fridays, then on Wednesdays, have a check up and dissuccion on what we've learned, problem areas, and things of that sort.
More like a guided self study.
I would appreciate signal boosts for this if you think some of your watchers would be interested.
*fluffy hugs to all ya' all*

FA+

Japanese sounds hard
But it's pretty, and ... Anime.
I'm planning on taking a nice easy pace. Don't want to have smoke rolling from my students ears. Hehe ;)
Just out of the goodness of my Fluffy Momma Kitty Sensei heart
*places a backpack on you and gives you a note pad and pencil case, and leads you to your seat*
I'll be starting to post lessons on Friday the 26th
I look forward to it!
Don't worry there is a changing room right down the hall.
My school is very mother(father)/baby friendly
*does a happy poofy dance*
I feel honored having you join the class
And Feel free to boost it!
Then you'll have it right in your own journals too, Easy to find
And he'll be with us in spirit. *tight hugs*
How far along did you two get?
We did some flash cards with the vowels on them and stuff. We didn't do letters really yet, but did some flash cards with words. and like introductions, greetings and stuff.
*hugs back*
That is great! It'll be a bit of a review then too.
I'm already formulating a class syllabus in my head, hopefully learning at a comfortable pace. (I teach... So it can't stop myself from thinking about planning classes)
I think I might even do a YCH once a month, for active students too.
the ych idea sounds cool as well.
I still have a japanese/english dictionary, a workbook and our flash cards we made. :)
Welcome to the class :3
I hope you enjoy and looking forward to helping you learn Japanese
Feel free to invite any friends that would be intrested
If you have an email addy or something you want me to send a reminder to, just let me know. (And you can also tell me later to stop sending them if you lose interest)
Hope you enjoy! And thank you for being interested!
Hopefully we will at least get you to be able to read all the furigana/Kana
And if you like old style games, check out something called Slime Forest. It's not the best for actually learning how to use the language, but will get you familiar with Katakana, hiragana, and some Kanji.
I'm also a huge fan of JRPG's ( when I can play them)
Hope you enjoy :)
And thank you! *poofs out happily*
I really hope it's turns out useful for you
How far have you gotten?
Hope it will be useful for you
Thank you!!
Where are you at currently with your studies??
Are you using any books by chance?
Plus Genki is the best word ever :D
I definitely need to do some anime lessons in the future!
Would you like me to send shouts when lessons are ready?
I'm planning on going at an easier pace. Don't want to break any brains here XD

I learned a little verbal japanese in highschool.
and I can write "Kira" and "Dragon" in japanese. p////p
More like just a guided self study with a whole bunch of furs doing the same thing, to hopefully motivate and help encourage each other.
It'll be Hiragana first, tiny bit of Grammar, and the basic survival listening
Move our way to Katakana, and more survival Japanese, and some fun language for anime
LOL! O//w//O
Are you floating on me in that coffee pot?
And YAY! You can write kanji!!!
Oooh yes! Mama coffee boat!
Just no distracting the other students too much. Hehe
*in feral form perches on your head a little boops your nose*
*hands you a pretty note pad a cute dangly pencil*
Really looking forward to this, and thank you again for inspiring it!
*puts up hand* I has question already :o
What's hiragana, katakana and kanji? I'm guessing letters but why are there 3? O.o I feel like the word kanji rings a bell but not the other 2
Hiragana and Katakana ( also both refered too as Kana) are two different scripts to basically represent the 46 sounds in the Japanese language. Hiragana is the more curvy of the two and is used to represent things Japanese. katakana is used for borrowed words from different languages, and also for words that represent sounds and some feeling/action (onomonapia)
Kanji are symbols, or picture words, that represent an idea, it usually has one or two... Sometimes more, ways to be pronounced using hiragana.
For example:
愛 <-kanji あい <-hiragana (Ai= Romanji! which is how to write it using the alphabet, pronounced like "eye") which these all mean love, just different ways to write the, . There is a bit more to this, BUT, That is for another time. diving in too deep at first can really hurt ones brain ;)
Now my real name, Benisha, is written in Katakana, ベニシャ。 As well as the sound of your heart beating, or being nervous ドキドキ (Dokidoki) I love saying that by the way!!!
Hope this helps
Japanese does have some hurdles. But you can do it! And anytime you don't understand, or need something explained differently, just ask
ナタシャ that's how your name looks in Japanes
*motions with a green fluffy paw to take a seat amoungst the rest of the class*
Would you like me to send you shouts when the assignments are ready and for class reviews?
And as a heads up - Wednesday discussion may be late for me (probably will end up responding the next day), as I have classes and a baking club I am a part of. It keeps me extra busy.
I'm actually about a day ahead of you all if you are in America.
No worries!
Oh and if you don't have Japanese enabled on you comp, check out the newest journal about the syllabus and class goals XD
Looking forward to it!
My high school required 2 years in a foreign language class, only offering Spanish or French. I picked Spanish, struggled the whole time, and flunked out of it at the end. More than a decade later, I now know less than 20 words... including the first ten numbers.
So... my learning pace for something as insanely difficult as Japanese would probably stretch out for years.
I'm on the fence about this. On one paw, it's an opportunity to learn something new, and I already have more interest in Japanese than any other Asian language... but on the other paw, I can find no practical purpose to learning it, have no need to speak or understand it, have nobody to practice with, and of course there's my handicap of being a non-linguist. I really don't know...
("joining"the class just means I send out shouts to you, and a free raffles here and there)
For the most part, as long as you can download things and print them out, you should be ok for assignments. There will be some sites that will have video and audio links too.
And yes, Japanese takes YEARS of study, 1000 of hours to become fluent. But, that's not the goal here just a basic understanding of the language. How to say hello, ask for the toilet, etc.
If you are interested in Japanese culture, it also opens up a lot of insight about The culture itself. Plus learning new skills do amazing things for the brain :) even if it's kinda painful at first hehe.
So, all up to you. I'd be more than happy to have you, and if something ever seems to be difficult I'll happily do my best to explain it and make it clearer.
I already know some bits and pieces of the culture... and, to be frank, a lot of it is really bizarre, and/or too weird or creepy for me. Things like the Penis Festival, the obsession with cuteness, the workaholics, the denial that depression is even real, the sexism, Japanese baths & toilets... um, yeah. Can't even comprehend some of that stuff.
I don't get much exposure to the language, though. I've seen a limited selection of anime, but only a handful of the shows are actually interesting (Ghost in the Shell, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood), and I've found I can't stand to watch the non-dubbed versions. I don't know anybody who knows a lick of Japanese, either. Probably the most spoken Japanese I've heard in any media would be in the movie The Last Samurai... and it being Hollywood, I gotta take the accuracy of the dialog & pronunciation with a heap of salt.
As long as the movie actually have Japanese actors, the pronunciation is fine. I know Watanabe plays in the Last Samurai, but I haven't seen that movie since I've moved to Japan. Need to give it another watch.
I will see you in class ( or not). No pressure!
If it's not your thing, that's completely ok.
