it's time for lesson number 3!
Ok all my self studying students, get your thinking caps on!
And to start out I'd like to inform you of a few things about studying, which you might already know.
First
Having a routine, a set time that you study, can really help. Normally our brain fights us at first to establish a new routine... Asking us " Do we really need this??* Pouts, and rolls over* but after doing it for about 28-40 days, it gets set. Then our brain goes.. I NEED to do this! I actually get strong urges to study after I get it set in my brain, you just need to get over that initial hurdle. It is not easy!
Second
Brain trick for studying. Look at what you need to do, THEN Take a break. It's unfinished, and our brains like thinking about things that are unfinished. They use this all the time with dramas and books, it's why cliffhangers are so effective. So if you want to study at night, take a quick look right before dinner, eat, talk, then get your study on.
Third
A favorite saying of mine: Seven times forget to make it stick.
You are going to forget what you've learned. It is fine. It's part of the process, an very frustrating one, but normal. And by forget I mean, have it one week, and forget it the next. That is why spaced repetition systems (SRS) flash card programs are amazing. They calculate for this, and will remind of words you've studied, had, but most likely have forgotten. My favorite is Anki, find it HERE. It's free for the computer and older phones, but the app is a bit costly. Good thing is, it syncs between all accounts so you can study wherever. There are many good systems out there, but make sure it is an SRS system.
Ok that's enough teacher preaching for now. Don't want you all running for the hills like Godzilla is out to get you
Please continue with the Hiragana. If you already have it down, go take a look at this page of survival Japanese
Surviala Japanese
Find things that interest you, even if it is just slightly. Make notes so you have things to write down for the discussion.
Next your listening for this week.
WHERE IS THE TOILET?
Remember to check the bottom of the page for explanations of the grammar used. They did a pretty good job with that on this lesson.
Oh! And cultural note, in all but the smallest apartments, the toilet and the bathroom are separated. One of the things I adore about this country. So if you ask for the bathroom, you will be directed to the actual bathroom, and sometimes it's in a complete different section of the house! Ask for the toilet.
頑張って(がんばって)!

Also I learnt (learned? I don't even know English o.O) a new phrase!
ちょうしはどう? - What's up?
But I also learnt 私のなまえは_です for saying your name but I had learnt it as just 私は_です
Too many different ways of saying the same thing confuses me >.<
English is hard too, I got better at it because I had to teach it! Lol! It was my worst subject.
(I've learnt/ I learned, but spoken/chatting English either is fine )
That is awesome that your's are seperarted! It so much nicer!!
Are you enjoying your new place??
So far it's been really fun learning Japanese and has given me a much needed goal to make me feel like I'm not wasting my life while I'm getting therapy :p I'm just worried that I'll use the wrong phrases lol. Not like the wrong meaning but maybe not polite or over polite? But that's still better than not speaking it at all ^_^ I'm also a bit sad because there are a lot of places that I want to go in Japan but I'll have to save up all of my money for over a year just to be there for 2 weeks :( Wish I could stay longer
Glad that you have more space, as much as I loved my son when he was two, being stuck in the same room for an extended amount of time would drive me crazy. Super yay for more space.
And I am so glad Japanese is giving you that goal. Run with it! And do t worry about mistakes.. Mistakes means you are eager enough to try, and THAT is essential to learning the language ;)
The most expensive part is the plane ticket, then the hotels.. I'm not sure how you feel about being a couch surfer, but that can save a ton of money, and allow you to stay longer. But it's worth it!!
Keep the dream alive
