I'm really glad to see a strong interest in my new work, means I'm doing something right haha. That being said, I think I need to make something transparent when it comes to creating said work, in particular the content involved. It's probably dead obvious to the majority of my watchers and I've even mentioned it in the commission form, but my work generally has strongly featured kink or fetish themes. That doesn't mean it always has to be "go hard or go home" nor even adult in nature, but some element needs to be present.
For example, motorcycle gear is a popular fetish item but it can be SFW in most contexts, or such as a pool toy in the relevant setting (to most people inflatables are pretty tame, but I have no shame in throwing them in whenever I can :P). More obscure fetishes like goo or liquid latex creatures are a big turn on for some, but don't have to always be depicted mid-transformation or having several appendages shooting all over the place all at the same time. To get to the point, I'm directing my work towards a particular "aesthetic" (there, I said it) and that visual appeal is slightly darker in nature (and by darker I don't simply mean using dark shades or tones).
So for the most part, I will not be accepting generic or "vanilla" themed artwork but I am pretty flexible. Even buff male types are a kink for some and I can totally work with that. It will require more discussion and perhaps artistic freedom, but 99% of people who've commissioned me are quite understanding in this area so it's not generally something I need to enforce. My decision will be based on merit, in that if I'm not given even a little bit of room or if I can't agree with the visual content I will dismiss the idea. These may include things such as characters that are FAR too convoluted or sexual acts that are neigh impossible to render, but I am always open to discuss these things and will always aim to come to a compromise.
Anyway, if you have any questions feel free to comment below or shoot me an email!

My decision will be based on merit, in that if I'm not given even a little bit of room or if I can't agree with the visual content I will dismiss the idea. Would I be right in thinking that you're looking do themes more grounded in reality rather than these 'impossible situations'? And are mid-transformation pieces something you're preferring not to do, or is it just the overly complex ones?
I guess you'd be right in thinking that, but it really depends on how suspended from reality it is. Like for the most part, people who enjoy full-coverage in rubber have fantasies about being transformed into rubber creatures (which I myself find very erotic) but that's not what I mean by "impossible". Mid-transformation is a good way to illustrated both the before and after of a scene, so I am more than happy to draw that.
What I mean by impossible is that sometimes people get greedy and, for example, want several appendages up themselves all at once from several different partners, but the anatomy of that situation is -actually- impossible. I am more than happy to draw a dragon with tentacles penetrating a smaller victim since it's so far removed from reality yet still simple enough, but a character that has rainbow coloured fur, wings, a seven-foot tongue and robotic arm with tattoos I will definitely NOT accept.
Basically I'm trying to put very politely to everyone that there are things I find interesting and things I do not. Trying to say I will accept "this" but not "that" is too hard and will lose people's interest very quickly. I'm a fan of the quote "less is more" and I would apply it to my work to an extent, but at the end of the day I can make most things work and I will try to reach a compromise if I think that an idea is too much.
I think what you said about suspending reality makes perfect sense. Sure, the amount of suspense is entirely subjective from person to person, but once you exceed the threshold it's like: "Huh? Really?". For me, it's like I've constructed a 'kink-world', where I've defined the rules about what is and isn't possible, and I feel that having some constraints makes it more enjoyable!
I will admit, when I started commissioning, I was guilty of 'anatomy-ignorance' and overly complex characters! I wasn't a very artistically creative back then so I didn't really understand what went into the painting process. My first character design, tbh, was total bollocks! Specific markings, clashing colours and a generally disjointed design. It wasn't until I tried commissioning someone and they said "I can't work with your character because the colours don't coordinate" that I started to understand this.
From the character side of things, I can totally understand why some think adding loads of accouterments makes their character unique, but ironically, it ends up being categorised as 'misc' along with all the other complex characters! Characters don't have to be complex to be unique; I like to think that my two main characters are reasonably unique and interesting but also relatively simple. But they were designed by an artist who understood that so I can't take credit x3.
When it comes to the composition of a piece, again, this is something I was guilty of back in the day; I would either try to fit in as many kinks as possible into one picture (best value for money? x3), or I would have a very specific idea in my head of how the final product would look. As you can imagine, a lot of the early stuff I got wasn't very good but through no fault of the artists. Now I try to summarise the whole description in six or less bullet points. Of course, with kinky stuff, there might be a specific 'thing' I want to see, but most of the time I've found giving as much free-reign gets the best results, especially if the artist is familiar and/or interested in the kink.
I asked about the mid-TF pieces because I don't like commissioning artists if it involves content they're not interested in. Both because the artist will have more experience with painting something they're interested in, but I also like knowing the artist is having fun with the description I sent through! I'm also weary of artists being 'type-cast' into kinks they have no interest in. A friend of mine did one macro piece for someone and, apparently, it was really really good within the macro world! But 80% of the commission requests afterwards would be for macro which she had no interest in. I guess I was being a little weary in this case; when I saw that mid-TF pic you did for Stellarhusky, I thought it was one of the best things I've ever seen! But I wasn't sure from this journal if it was something you were trying to move away from.
I didn't mean for this comment to turn into an essay, but I find discussing this kind of stuff really interesting! :P
It's not something I can say to people's face often, but I can relate to "I can't work with your character because the colours don't coordinate" haha. I've come across a number of characters that I had to hold my tongue about.
To be fair I've only drawn a small handful of TF stuff, but I'd be happy to draw more. It would be fun to be creative and see what elements you can change during the process of transformation.
Don't worry about producing essay length comments, I'm guilty of that myself sometimes. I'm just glad people take the time to say what they're thinking. :)
Soon will be bothering you for a commission too.
All that said thank you for being an awesome artist.
I'm happy that I have confidence in what I like and do. It's always difficult when you're making art for someone else because you so much want to please them, but the more you do it the more you realise people love what you do regardless.
What do you mean by ghosting?
Unfortunately I cannot -just ignore- the term "character" as it is part of my pricing scheme which falls under my ToS and acts as a written agreement between the client and myself. It will be displayed on your invoice shall you receive a commission from me and is not something that you can alter. I hope you understand. :)
