Q1: What is this? WHAT’S GOING ON?!
A1: This is a CYOA (short for Choose Your Own Adventure) type game/project! In short, you have a look at the picture that’s been posted, read the accompanying short story/description and vote on the course of action that you’d like to see the main character take next.
Q2: What do I have to do to participate?
A2: Nothing, technically! Your level of participation is completely voluntary. That said, the magic of a CYOA is being able to influence the direction of the story! To take the first post as example, everything from the main character’s job to their species and personality was/is up for selection. Follow the links provided and vote (no registration required) and if your vote is the winning one then you’ve influenced the course of the story! :D
Q3: What is Patreon and why is it slathered all over this like a bad smell?
A3: Patreon is a site that allows its users to contribute to the financial wellbeing of an artist or a project. It is used often as a paywall, or a site to confer additional benefits to Patreons, such as monthly or weekly commissions, etc. Anyone with a credit card or Paypal account can become a Patreon, and whilst some artists use a ‘per submission’ charge feature, my account is set to charge subscribers monthly.
It is my fond hope that through hard work and perseverance I will be able to etch a meek living off of Paypal and the work that I do here on FA. Work like this CYOA, Maple’s Story and Fiber Optic Bundles of Joy. Contributing for 2.50USD a month is a great way to show your support if you’ve enjoyed these pieces, and through that contribution you will be ensuring more of such work to come, as well as securing a voice in the direction of current and future projects.
Q4: Alright, but what does being a Patreon get me exactly?
A4: I’m glad you asked! Being a Patreon gives you a variety of things, depending on the level of your contribution. Minimum contribution to start seeing benefits is 2.50USD a month. At this level and higher you will begin to have benefits such as:
Access to FOBoJ and other writing/image works at least 2 weeks before their release to FA (usually 3)
Full access to exclusive Patreon only votes
Full resolution images upon request
Weighted votes
A Patreon only Discord group
A Cameo slot in each story
The chance to advise additional options to be voted on, or acted upon instantly, once per story
A side-character in the story at least once, per story.
These rewards are dependent on the level of support you’re comfortable giving, please consider your options and only give within your means.
Q5: How often are you going to be updating? How do I know you won’t take the money and run?
A5: Updates will be out once a week (depending on my availability) initially, although this frequency may increase should my goal of 500USD a month be attained! As for running with money – your Patreon support may be withdrawn at any time. I have been actively posting on Patreon for almost a year now and have no intention of stopping any time soon, but please, as stated above, only pledge within your means.
Q6: What now?
A6: Vote! The first image in the series is either up, or will be up presently. Please make your preferences known via the strawpoll links provided and together, let’s write a grand story!
Q7: Can I get my friends to vote too?
A7: For all non-Patreon only votes you are MORE than welcome to encourage your friends to vote as well! Post it on twitter, or in journals or w/e you’d like, if you’re enthusiastic then I’m enthusiastic. For Patreon only votes, only Patreons are allowed to vote. Sharing the strawpoll outside of Patreon will result in future votes occurring on a more regulated platform so please, don’t do that.
Rules:
1, One vote per voter please! Patreons may comment with their Patreon username to receive weighted votes, please do this on the Patreon strawpoll submission, once per vote.
2, No cheating! Strawpoll protects against multiple votes, however it’s not hard to tell if someone is cheating, or non-Patreons have somehow gotten into Patreon exclusive votes. Don’t do this please. It’s incredibly easy to tell if there’s a disparity in the data and whilst strawpoll is easy and accessible for everyone, I’m not above switching platforms to a more regulated site, if required.

But if how I'm running it doesn't appeal to you that's okay! I don't expect everyone to be as excited about this as me and participation is of course, 100% voluntary.
