♥♥ Exciting news! Full time artist!? Please read! ♥♥
8 years ago
I have some very exciting news! TL;DR is at the bottom.
I will be graduating from university within a month. My final presentation is due for Valentine's Day (so little to no activity from me until then, it's really stressing me out), and after that I'll be graduating as a Master of Science. Official date is somewhere in March. I'm super proud of myself for finishing this study and the entire trajectory before it and excited I can finally start a new chapter in my life. However, this final stretch has really taken the motivation of working in this field out of me, at least for now. It's been difficult mustering the will and dedication to work on my reports, on presentations, on internships… The thought of working in biomedical science is super daunting and scary to me right now. I have applied for two jobs, but have been turned down (no biggie btw!). Therefore, I want to take some time for myself to do something entirely different, as I am in a good situation financially.
I want to focus my efforts on further developing myself as an artist. After being done with school in a week I will have at least six months to work on just art and maybe some other crafty projects in the meanwhile. It may not be something I can or want to keep doing indefinitely as I think eventually I’ll use my education as a biomedical scientist, but right now is the perfect time to at least give it a try. Financially I am in a good situation, partially thanks to my lovely supporters on Patreon, and I now have no other responsibilities or things that take away time apart from my household and pets.
Today I registered myself as a business and I am very excited to see how far I can take this in a relative short amount of time. I hope I will continue to enjoy my freelance commission work, and drawing in general, when doing it full time. The only way to find out is by just doing it! This way I will not have regrets later, thinking “what if I was an artist full time rather than doing this job I have now?”. I intend on doing a lot more than just drawing on commission, I’m looking into other things that will hopefully turn out to be profitable and enjoyable to make! I hope to tell you more about my plans later, but first I want to do some more research to see what is viable and what is not.
I’m taking a leap of faith here, but could never imagine doing it without the loyal supporters and friends from the furry fandom I’ve gathered over the years. Whether you’ve only just heard about me, have been enjoying my artwork for years, or have been supporting me on Patreon, I truly appreciate the love and support I get from you guys! Let’s make this an awesome adventure, okay!? :)
TL;DR Graduating from university soon, going to try something completely different and work as an artist full time for a few months!
