Horrible News: Farewell Gene Catlow.

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this to inform everyone who knew him, that Albert Temple, known by most of us as Gene Catlow, was found dead of natural causes in his home at 11:20pm Thursday, March 9th. He just celebrated his 59th birthday last December.
I was going to write out and document the events that lead to us here... But at the end of the day it doesn't change things.
One of the greatest and most generous people I have ever met has passed away.
Albert unflinchingly supported everything and everyone he came across. He was a fan and follower of everyone. This was a man who never said a negative word about anyone, to even imagine him being angry is impossible... I've only known him for a little more than twenty years. But I will say it was an honor to have him as a friend.
Please share this around, so that everyone who knew him can be informed. We are still trying to get ahold of family, but in discussion with the police, it was cleared as being okay to inform friends. There are no details as of this message beyond what has been said.

He was far too young. I hope Catswhisker will be all right.
He didn't indicate anything was wrong, such as feeling under the weather or such.
I'm going to miss him, so much. I can't stop crying.

He was over a few weeks ago and seemed fine; this is such a huge shock.
I had a bad feeling when the comic wasn't updating. That was his pride and joy, he was so proud of never having missed an update.
Monday there wasn't one, he was found Thurs...seems he may have passed on the weekend. The last Note from him was Feb 22nd, and he'd take a week or so to get back to me. When he didn't, and the update didn't happen, I began to worry.

Personally, I think Gene would want Catswhisker to do what she felt was right, even if it meant closing the webcomic where it is.

I believe Keenspot will have the ultimate final decision in whether or not the webcomic is still available on its site. Being blunt, a comic which is not updating will do them no good.
These decisions are not up to the fans. They shouldn't be. The fans read the comic, but it's not theirs. So it's a wait until Catswhisker or Keenspot decides.
And out of respect for this thread and the owner of this journal, I'm bowing out of this conversation.

I found out about this when I went to the Gene Catlow forum to see if there was any news on why the update didn't happen. I found Thomas Dye's posting, then immediately came here to FA.
I've been off and on in social media, so am just finding out.
I do hope Catswhisker is okay...and that she has someone or many someones near her.

I ran into Gene (who I'd met through you two) at FC.
I,.., I'm just saddened & in disbelief.

I'll never forget FC 99 when I flew out with the family, my son was just 4 years old and Al popped by my room to say hi. I remember some jokes were told and Al was playing with my son. I yelled "Sic em John" and my son pounced Al, and they wrestled in the hallway. And that kid actually dragged Al back into the room like a lion with with a wildebeest. And Al was laughing his ass off "Damn that kid is strong for his age!"
I'm going to miss his smile.

Let me know if there's any plans or even just a place to send condolences to his family. I didn't know him as well as you two did, but I'm gonna miss him.
No, at this point if anyone has a phone # or anything other than her furry art accounts it'd be super appreciated.. quite a few of us have been repeatedly trying to get in touch with her w/ the contacts we had and no one's heard back. :(

Yes, his family have been notified, I've been in contact with them.
Out of respect for their privacy I am saying as little as necessary with regards to this whole event.
As you are a close friend I can offer you my condolences on his passing, to you and his family.
He will live with you and others that have met him in those good memories he has left behind.
You will be missed.
I wish the best for his family and course Catswhisker. If there is anything we can do as a community to help her, i hope we can.

This horrible news comes to me at the end of short string of losses of my own. Three family members, one immediate, and now one of the best people I've had the honor of interacting with.
Rest In Peace Gene. You are a friend to all you came into contact with. You will always be loved.

I didn't know him that well, but I always thought Gene Catlow was such a talented, nice guy. Like... could you get much nicer?? I don't think so.
I got so excited and felt so honoured when he would come around my artwork and leave the most random, amusing comments. He always seemed to have time for everyone, and he was so generous with his artwork
We've drawn each other a few things, and I'll always cherish them!

I don't believe I ever met the man, at least in person, but over the years that I've been exposed to the fandom, I came to te realization that he was a kind and caring man, who was never afraid to help someone feel just a bit better about themselves. From what I'm seeing here, and elsewhere, he will be greatly missed, and his absence will leave a void that will be impossible to fill.
My thoughts are with his family and those friends that knew him in person. Take solace in the fact that he most likely never felt anything, and never suffered. And know that his spirit lives on in those who he loved.

I didn't really know Gene, but I've been a fan of his comics since before I even knew what furries were and I've always seen his posts on FA. He seemed like a really great guy, one of the nicest. I really hope his family and Catwhisker are doing ok.

The first I ever branched out to when properly trying to find myself and start doing art.
All he ever was was supportive.

Have been away from having internet for so long that I missed it... had been meaning to reach out to him.
Hope that everyone is doing alright.
CW is a matter I am able to talk about, but not exactly in a public forum just yet. I need to prepare a few things first before that can be properly put together. I can't even explain why on that just yet.
