THIS IS A LIST OF COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS. IT WILL LIKELY BE ADDED TO.
Can you tell me more about the nose rings?
* Wilderkin who are openly receptive to love, romance
or sex patronage wear nose rings. Asexual and aromantic
Kin do not. The rings signal to others of a desire for closeness
in some form, basically.
What are some general naming conventions for Wilderkin?
* Wilderkin don't exist in modern day, rather a loose Fantasy
setting. Object-like names ("Sapphire" or "Blue Star" etc.) as
well as exotic, or even elvish-like naming conventions make the
most sense ("Alara" or "Nadarine" etc.)
Are Wilderkin always colored/patterned after their place of birth/element?
* Not always. However, coloration is a strong hint at where a Kin comes from.
Most Kin have some color indication of their native elemental territory.
If so, what good does painting the horns do for subterfuge?
* Some Wilderkin wish to pass themselves off as another kind of
Kin. For example, an Earthkin might want to blend into the Southern
Fire tribal lands, and therefore paint his horns. A fugitive Kin might
want to do likewise. Clothing easily serves to cover parts of their fur
coloration that might indicate their native land. Dying fur is rare but
not unheard of either. The crafty always find ways.
At what age do Wilderkin receive their pearls?
* Sometimes it is different depending upon region and
their customs. Typically around 10 years old.
At what age do a Wilderkins arcane abilities manifest?
* It is rare for Kinlings (children) to manifest magic without
their pearls first. However, some, very powerful Kin might
show some small spark, for example, a Firekinling who,
when angry, gets hot all over. Otherwise, their magic
requires their pearl.
Do Psychic Wilderkin have more elaborate ceremonies when they bond a Highborns
kin’s gifts to a pearl than Commonborn?
* Pearl Bonding ceremonies are usually paid for by the Kinling's
parents. Highborn parents are typically much wealthier and can
throw a more extravagant 'coming of age' party, but a Psychkin
performs the same ceremony regardless of class.
Do Psykin only come in Highborn, or are there also Commonborn ones, too?
* Psychkin can be Highborn or Commonborn.
Who/What tribe currently rules in Azrah or is the entire royal family Heartkin?
* Heartkin are incredibly rare, and in the last great war, though Azrah's royal
family have always been Heartkin, the last of them were slaughtered. Azrah
is currently ruled by a very powerful Firekin family, as proxy or stewards, until
the next Heartkin royal is born or recovered. There is said to be corruption and
those dissenters cite the use of Shadowkin assassins.
Why do Warriorkin have claws?
* Warriorkin grow and hone their claws carefully for fighting. Technically,
non-Warriorkin could grow claws. But they might be mistaken for a
Warriorkin and be thrown into the Coliseum.
It says Wilderkin are comfortable with nudity - do they wear clothing?
* Yes, certainly. Most Kin wear clothing most of the time, in fact. But there
isn't a stigma around the naked body.
Do Warriorkin wear armor in the arena?
* Depending upon the type of battle, and fighting style - yes.
Heartkin excel at healing magic, but can the other kin heal at all?
* Wilderkin heal at an accelerated rate (moreso than, say, humans)
but Heartkin are the only known users of healing magic.
Psychkin are said to have creative magic?
* Yes. As their power is mind-based, they are capable of illusion
magic, for example. However, it should be noted that, because a
Psyckin's power comes from the mind, they aren't able to keep
using magic at the same rate, or as much as other Kin who can
draw on earth's natural energy.
What is actual difference is there between Highborn and Commonborn?
* That's the question. Isn't it?
Do Highborn occasionally trim their ear tufts to ‘slum it’ with Commonborns?
* A Highborn would not sheer their tufts except for very, very serious reasons. It
is a sign of high birth, an honor. Plus, no Highborn would want to risk being mistaken
as a Commonborn...they could find themselves in the fighting pits, for example.
What is the punishment for a Commonborn growing out their ear tufts?
* Unless that Commonborn has been given special privileges or decrees from
royalty, to grow their tufts out, if one were to do this, it is to break a sacred
law. They might face jail time, work camps, Coliseum death matches, or in
extreme cases, have their pearl shattered, though the latter is less common.
There is a mention of slavery, is there a slave market in the Wilderkingdom,
yes one must initially agree but do some commonborns agree to sell themselves
in due to hunger/debt etc?
* There are forms of slavery, yes. However, all sexual contracts require consent.
Labor contracts do not. It is rare for Highborns to abuse their rank, but it does
happen. And sometimes, desperation does drive Commonborns to servitude. It
is an imperfect world, like any other.
How much control do Wilderkin have over their pearl? Can it be removed
from the safety of their tail as needed?
* Once a Wilderkin's pearl is bonded, it hovers an inch or so away from their
tail fur. Usually in the crook. However, depending upon how a Kin's tail moves,
the pearl moves with it.
What happens to a Wilderkin who does not have a pearl binding ceremony?
* They cannot use their magic. Without an outlet, a magically powerful Wilderkin
can become "Pearl-Sick" and eventually succumb. Kin that aren't very magically
gifted can occasionally live just fine without a pearl, or magic, though this is highly
rare.
Is Arcane knowledge at any way controlled or institutionalized?
* There is an Arcane Academy in Azrah, where students and scholars
study magic. There is also a large library there with magical tomes.
How is magic performed?
* It is sometimes different depending upon the type of Kin. However,
there aren't chants or spells, so much as intense focus, and dance-like
or martial-arts like movements, somewhat reminiscent of hand-signs.
What are the inheritance rules on class and property/wealth given that
it is expected that a highborn keep a stable of commonborns as sexual pets?
* If the Commonborn's contract was a lifetime contract (which is rare), then
yes, a Highborn may inherit the contract their mother or father made.
If ‘lifemating’ is the true form of marriage are regular political marriages then
allowed to be revoked ie: divorce allowed? ?
* This is a matter of contention. It is so rare that a Kin finds his/her Lifemate,
that this hasn't become an issue...yet.
If Airkin are semi-precious - what does this mean?
* This means there are, numerically, fewer Airkin than other Wilderkin types.
What sort of ore is a Wilderkin Pearl made of?
* A special sort of colorless ore found in the Earthkin mines that is shaped
and polished, and glows from the inside with a Kin's native power.
What do the Wilderkin use as money?
* Gold, silver and coppers, in that order of value. Sometimes...slaves.
What kinds of tribal divides or conflicts are there?
* They exist and are real. There will be additional tribal guides
coming out about this in the future. Let's simply say, for now, that
each tribe is somewhat nationalistic, but harmonious, so long as Azrah
stays the stable center. Some take issue with the Firekin being 'stewards'
until a royal Heartkin is born or recovered, which causes tensions. Otherwise,
you can think of the natural elements that keep each other in check as
a divide. I.E: Firekin are wary of Waterkin who can quench their flames.
What if an Earthkin and Airkin have a child?
* The child will either be Earthkin or Airkin.
How common is it to see a Shadowkin?
* More tribal territorial information will be published at
a later date (especially if Wilderkin continue to gain popularity).
However, should a Kin see a Shadowkin on the street, it might
cause trouble or panic, as they are seen as bad luck, bad omens,
and/or royalty's assassins. Shadowkin usually disguise themselves
and are usually nocturnal anyway.
Could a Kin with a cracked pearl gain a replacement or second pearl?
* One pearl. One Wilderkin. As far as anyone at the Arcane Academy has
records, replacements of pearls, or multiple pearls have never been viable.
It was once rumored that the Heartkin could heal damaged pearls, but they
are long gone...
What do Wilderkin eat?
* Wilderkin are omnivores. There are some vegetarians -usually Earthkin or
Airkin - though this is very uncommon, as Wilderkin's natural physiology predisposes
carnivorous behavior.
Are people talented, or decently skilled in art, allowed to discuss and create their
own Wilderkin? Considering if it is approved by the creators, or a majority vote?
* Nope, sorry. This is a no-go. If you have a Wilderkin from Pace, you can do fanart
of your own character, or purchase it, but no one is allowed to do original basework or
design, unless a custom slots comes up.
What sort of technology exists in this world? ?
* Technology is largely Roman. There are baths, but they're done via gravity and
heating water. There isn't electricity.
Do Highborns participate in the coliseum? And how violent are these fights?
* Highborn sons can participate, but usually not firstborns - in order to protect inheritance -
and usually not Highborn females (the sexism! no! but yes)
What are the Wilderkin attitudes towards lesbian/gay relationships/sex? Ie: If a
soulmate was of the same gender (Is this possible?) but politically a highborn child was
needed to continue a bloodline would there be an issue?
* Wilderkin don't have the same-sex hangups us humans do. Love is love and sex is
sex. However, yes, if a lifemate is unable to produce a child with their partner, and
bloodlines are at stake ...
Speaking of children, what is the fertility, gestation period, etc of the Wilderkin?
Is there any form of birth control? (A special tea, herb, or fruit to decrease or increase
fertility?)
* Wilderkin carry Kinlings to term much the same as human females in terms of time
and delivery. Yes, there are herbal methods of birth control, with moderate, but not
perfect success.
