What species should my char be?

Can't sleep because I was struck with this new character concept and now he's all I can think about.
Fairly chill, is a bouncer and DJ for Portia's club. The kind of dude who would wear a plain black too-tight t-shirt to show off his pecs. Works out, helps him look intimidating and scare people into behaving, but isn't afraid to rough them up a little if he needs to get a point across. Not inherently violent though. A bit of a gentle giant otherwise.
Colors are dark and subdued. Navy probably.
I need name/species suggestions! Trying to find something that would fit his thick/muscular body type without being stereotypical or 'typecasting'.

OR
A snake of some kind, plenty of constrictor species that would fit the bill especially for the color palette you desire.
I also considered cheetah ;D skinny critters, but the blocky head shape and low profile ears are nice.
Course, I'm totally biased towards cheetahs myself. ;) Can always have interesting spot formations, and the king variety makes for gorgeous coat patterns.
I get the feeling there's something obvious I'm overlooking but it's not coming to me. Ah well, have fun tinkering.
Those are the only ones I can think of, offhand... I hope they don't sound too stereotypical.
Canine: Bull Terrier, Newfoundland, Beauceron, Belgian Shepherd
Other: Friesian horse, Crow/Raven Gryphon,
