I too do the one-word name... though its origin is entirely music history based, not some game character. A fiddle stick, as it were, a violin bow.

Ooh, you know I never even connected the dots between the fiddlestick/fiddlesticks thing! I've only ever heard that word under the context of a 'oh fiddlesticks! [drat]' sort of thing.

Hehe that was a nice side-option (the Oh Drat) when I picked up the name almost a decade ago... friends found it hilarious, plus the better ones were fiddle players like me in school.

My name used to be a long, phonetically spelled out Japanese phrase with lots of weird vowels butted up against one another. Then I started getting into online gaming, and I needed a name for that. I wanted to pick something that set me aside from other gamers, and I knew I wanted my identity to speak to the fact that I was an artist without obviously being like 'artist101' or something.

I settled on Inkmaven, because my roots in art are traditional, and with markers and pens (Ink) and then maven(master/sage), because it meshed together well, looked nice, and was easy to pronounce. I remember being up until 4:30 AM one morning bouncing words and synonyms off a friend of mine until I found one that fit.

When I got serious about doing commission work was also about the time I was switching fursonas as well. I wanted my character and my name to be more personable, easy to pronounce and descriptive of me, so I moved over to my Inkmaven name. I'm not fond of the fact that if you actually know what 'maven' means it makes me look like a pompous asshole amongst other artists, but it was what set me aside from the other gamers in the online community and it stuck. So I use it as my general name everywhere now~

A maven is akin to a sage or expert at something! A direct (and more pompous) translation would be 'master', but not in a power sort of way, as in a 'master at a craft' sort of way. That being said, I've left some very big shoes for myself to fill x3

I believe it's an archaic term and not frequently used anymore. All the better though, sounds more fantasy like to me in that way.
