I'm stranded in St Clair Missouri. I was trying to get my pet Chelsea home. My car, have had it since 2012 had never giving me issues, and have made several trips with it. However, this is what happened if you want to read.
We left at 4 am yesterday from my home in Tulsa made it 3 hours out, and the car started smoking and i had to pull off. Long story short there the serpentine belt snapped. That controls the water pump and cooling system. We had insurance tow us to the nearest shop, cost us $75 to fix the belt, and machanic fast charged the battery, said everything was fine and we were good to go. Made it about 4 more hours, then we started getting this sulfer/rotten egg smell, we pulled into gas station. Battery was smoking. Took it to an auto part store across the street. They said it was a bad battery that got too hot and spewed battery acid that smells like rotten eggs. Told us they probably fried it when they fast charged it. Sooo... bought a new battery. $160. Then they tested it. Said it was being charged too much by our alternator, so the alternator will need to be replaced as its going bad. But they said we should be able to make it home. Started to drive towards Buns home as planned as machanic said it should be fine. Made it 3 hours out, car over heated. All gauges stopped working (speedometer, gas gauge, rpms, temp gauge). Had my second full panic attack... nearly passed out and hyperventilating. Called brother (My brother is a car mechanic)...7 hours from home. We decided to turn around and try to make it home. Made it 2 hours, car smells like sulfur, brand new battery stared spewing acid. We decide to get a hotel cause by this time it was almost 10pm. 16 hours spent on road. Plus everything was closed.
Okay, alternator is likely going bad and over powering battery and that's why it's frying. Brother suggested to disconnect alternator fuse and drive 30 minutes on battery. Then reconnect alternator to charge battery back up. While alternator is connected, blow ac, turn on lights, anything to draw power from battery to kinda counteract the over charging. Then when battery starts to over heat, disconnect alternator, drive on battery only till it needs to be charged again, repeat.
So this morning, went and got fuse cause the old one busted trying to get it out. Tried this trick to make it home. Made it about 40 minutes on battery alone, tried hooking alternator up, worked for about 10 minutes, then broke down on highway and i can't get it started. We are about 360 miles from home/4 hrs 40 min...we have exhausted our funds trying to fix car and started digging into our rent funds. We have $160 in paypal, and $300 in our account. We have $460
The cost for a uhaul truck and trailor for the car and distance we need to go is going to be $580 before taxes. Not including gas.
...or food
Im fucked
Right now, im reaching out to see if i can get any help, anything at all, im terrified and im scared, and im at the end of my options and i dont know what to do.
I have got what i need to get hauled home and unstranded...thank you all...all of you, thank you so much... ;x;
I cant express how wonderful you all are...thank you...thank you...omg thank you
I cant even talk right now...there are no words
You can use one of those lithium battery jump starters to power things hopefully enough to get you home. Do not reconnect your alternator.
I know it's hard to do, especially after all the previous car break downs, but try to stay calm as much as you can. You will get the help you need.
Sorry I can't do more.
