The Return of New Free Content on HTH
HTH STUDIOS
After giving this a lot of thought we were thinking of ways to give out samples to free members, without creating a system like before where there was more free content than gold. So we were thinking of 1 Gold character moving to Free for a limited release date of 1 month. So each month there would be a new character given to free members to play with for the month. To decide which character goes Free that month we've added a vote to the $10 tier on Patreon. Since it's gold members who support the studio, we think they should have a hand in what is given out to Free members on a trial basis.
We've already started the selection process for this month. We'll be launching a vote to determine the temporary Free Scene sometime later this week. So if you want to participate there's still time to join Patreon. All our tiers include a gold subscription except for the $1 basic voting tier.

Hoooooo boy, I would looooooove to tackle this, but I think I won't. I'm just gonna walk away and have a good laugh.
Do you have to pay for it? No.
That means that that content is free. That it is not free at some other point in time does not change that it is currently content which is free, (i.e. it's free content).
The more people that pay, the better able they are to produce more content or otherwise improve the site. Thus, getting more paying members is a benefit to the current paying members and it is to their advantage to pick the stuff that will attract the money of currently free users.
Also as for your second statement, we both know its false. The site has pretty much been roughly the same since launch so its not gonna suddenly change anytime soon just because he gets a few more gold members. It works and that's what matters to them. Also crow could be making twice as much money right now and he wouldn't magically start producing content at twice the speed he can just because of that. Especially if you remember years ago when he tried to promise people 3 ~ 5 new girls for gold members and 1 ~ 2 new girls for free members a month with however many scenes that were promised. More money simply means more funds and more funds means crow can keep this train wreck going longer.
When we started production we had a very small cast, after adding over 50 new characters to HTH, eventually we have to start working back to revising scenes so we can't do new characters forever. And we didn't promise anything, it's a business plan, those change as the business grows and evolves. And you're referring to the scenes. it was 2-3 new characters, 3-5 scenes. 1 Free characters, with 1-2 scenes which the bare minimum is 4 scenes. We've always made at least 4 scene updates. At this point we're releasing a scene a week which is on par with how a lot of web comics update. And still 4 updates, which is what we set out to do. With the Free trial scene that will make 5 updates. The only thing we haven't been doing lately is 2 new characters. We usually do at least 1 new character, but working on RLD is giving us the opportunity to add more new characters again.
The users having an easy way to say "we really like A, B and C, could you make more like that please?" has an obvious benefit for those users. That this is tied to a system that also directly benefits another group of users and the site itself does not eliminate that benefit.
As for my second statement, perhaps you should have read all of it rather than treating "more content" as the only possible improvement. Furthermore, there are going to be thresholds where more paying users mean more content due to reaching points where hiring someone becomes feasible, (either to directly create content or to take up non-creative tasks to free up more time for content creation).
Also crow has already said they'll probably end up doing it themselves should the vote become unused which I personally think it should just be from the beginning but whatever, it'll probably be used for the first few months but I doubt it'll last without any incentive to do so.
That's a false dichotomy, the results of the vote can easily be used for both purposes. Even a vote which is designed and presented solely as one to give a treat to free users still results in useful information about what is liked or considered enticing.
This should and most likely will have no weight on the future content's direction.
Because artists who are selling their work should ignore the results of asking people known to be willing to pay money for the art questions like "what do you like the most?" or "what do you think will get people to join you in paying money?"
That you continue to pretend I only suggested using more money to directly pay for additional content creators is noted and your implicit admission that you have no argument against other uses of such money for non-content improvements or the removal of non-creative tasks to other people is accepted.
Also what non-content improvements would you like to have then? If anything I'd rather have the money go towards another artist for additional creation of art assets but then that would mean they would have to match crow's style, otherwise we'll have a jumbled mess of various styles that could split the game. Or another coder to help actually implement new mechanics in the game which is also a content concept, or even another animator to use crow's assets which also falls under content. Its nice to know that they've considered this though and that its at least a milestone on patreon. Other than that, the actual content of the game is the most important aspect so honestly, even if you argue that more funds can be used for non-creative tasks, what matters in the end is the content. The non-creative tasks arent the things that people want to be paying for, they want to pay for content and updates. Those tasks are important to remember but regardless the content itself should be a top priority whenever it can be.
You also don't seem to understand that any online service has all sorts of needs beyond simply creating the content. Mostly all the stuff that is needed in order to deliver that content, (e.g. keeping the server running, which is not even close to a zero effort task for anything that needs to accept externally initiated network connections). The most obvious non-content improvement is, naturally, better hardware, (both to serve the content and to be used in its creation).
People might not be interested in the non-creative tasks but without those tasks being done they don't get any of the creative content. To make an analogy, getting a painting on your wall involves not only an artist to paint it, but a driver to deliver it.
Also I understand plenty that online services require upkeep and expenses but you seem to not understand that you also need a reason to use those services. This "game" still literally has no content at all in terms of actual mechanics. Character creation is still just "select a cock type" and nothing else, there are no tasks or quests to do, characters are set in stone with their location and have no relationship mechanics in place, money and stats are still a non-factor, it might as well be a glorified flash gallery since there's nothing to actually do in it. To which that basically just means crow is wasting a lot of resources when he could just be publishing the flash files for each character scene separately and host them elsewhere (kind of like how the pirating is going), which then comes back to how I say that content should take priority because that's the bread and butter that's going to earn you your keep. I do not deny that server upkeep and costs are important, they really are, but they're worthless if they're supporting nothing. Crow doesnt actually have to use his own website, his own forum, his own servers to make this kind of game. There's plenty of other options to be explored that can reduce non-content costs, but these were his choices and them's the breaks. You can hang the painting on your wall but whats the purpose if its a blank canvas or ultimately unfinished forever.
We can go back and forth about this forever about content vs hardware so we should just agree to disagree. I personally feel like content should be the highest priority since that's the incentive to join gold membership status and support the game. You personally feel like they should focus more on the ground they're building on and making a more stable website and beefier servers, and that isn't wrong or a bad thing. Both of our opinions are valid but subjective with priorities being opposite on the spectrum.
Part of our Patreon is getting more game mechanics into HTH. The updates are funding this, which means they have to take priority so I can pay bills. There is a lot more game mechanics planned that I've been working on. The Alpha Team can see how far the character creator is going which is much further than what is in the main game. Nothing's been ignored. I'm just one person and code help in flash is basically nonexistent. Though I've tried. And starting over with a new code language will take longer. Especially because I have to learn it. Plus getting help requires money to pay people, which I'm unable to do at this time. So my options are limited. It's basically go at this pace, and keep at it until it's done.
Also, I don't own the servers but I do have to pay to host my site through them. I do have to update my hardware from time to time, but that's part of the business. Do I need funds for this, yes. Which is why scenes take priority. People are paying for the sex, and as much as I'd like to focus on game mechanics, I have to split my time with what is paying the bills. Do I think people would be more interested in HTH if there was more to do than just characters? Of course! But I can't stop making scenes in order to do that.
I love Amazonian furries/scalies!
Also, thanks for knocking a hole in the paywall!
That would be awesome.
Personally I'd pay for premium if it took PayPal and hit you on patreon without question if I had it spare. I have enjoyed this project all the time I've known of it (however many years on that may be.)
Crow aside from everything else I want to say thank you and the crew. Even if no free content I'll pop on to enjoy from time to time. Even if it's not "the best" I still hold this game in a special place.
Keep killin it my doods. Much love
You have more than enough content (characters/environment/possible options that have already been showcased in one way or another) to make a great piece if you focus on finishing what you've got it would be a far better product than this constant new skinning on an incomplete lattice of mechanics. This is a problem/route many game makers do these days. It works for a short lived game with micro transactions but given how much you've put into this project you should treat it as a long term project.
I've seen a few things I've loved that were later removed. Personally, I'd pay for downloadable unchanging iterations.
I used to really like the game and play it a few times a week. But now that it has become like those other idioic freemieum furry games that you'll find online, it's said to say I don't play it a lot anymore :'(
And I realy miss the scenes with those characters, like the polarbear, the futa and the other girls. I even miss the hall where you could visit the horse in her shower.
I know I'm not the only one who is bothered by this, who doenst have the money to buy everything he wants and who just wants to play this game the way it was.
so I just hope that oneday some of ghe old thigs will come back, until that day I will be elsewhere.
You used to be cool. but now you're not
