Status Update on Harvey: Going home..
Hey. Hi. I'm Kittypony writing for Kei.
So, my uncle wants his home back to himself and we need to move back in. The water is all gone, we managed to get things out to dry and for the most part and..well, we had to tear out the wood floor panels that buckled and fucked up and some had some mold setting in underneath so that's great though luckily not many. We sprayed down those spots with stuff to kill it. Not..at all sure what the hell else to do. at all. The flooring is all fucked though it's only in spots? Some big, some small, but it's all screwed up. Some baseboards and doors are kind of warped and screwed up. Other wooden or particleboard things like desks too, of course. We were kind of hoping to try to sell or something and get the hell out of the place within the next year or so. We don't have money for...any of this. At all. We were just getting by before.
We're not sure whether we should try to pull all of the stupid floor panels out, if they'll all have an issue hiding under them or not. then what do we do with the glue floor?? We don't have money for this nor the knowledge to do it without a professional. it's great.
Decent bit of stuff ruined though a good bit of clothes and stuff we're salvaging. We're trying, anyway. Several washes with various stuff to try to clear it all out.. Most annoying is a bit of the heavy bedding for winter is fucked though luckily it doesn't get insane cold like up north. Various other things though we were able to get electrics and truly important items up or out.
We got off "lucky". No one's hurt and the flooding was low but it's still fucked us over hard yet probably not hard enough for substantial help from FEMA or anything else perhaps? We don't know. We've put in an application and we'll see what happens. We didn't have flood insurance as we were outside of the flood plane thing and it had never gotten that far from what we were told and in what storm experiences we'd had. Same for our neighbors, though only one was as unlucky as us. Poor guy, they had just put in brand new flooring the week prior.
Not sure what else to say about it all. This sucks. As it is, we have like four hundred bucks to our name and a lot of different ways it's going to have to go. And no internet at home from which Kei can work and stuff. I dunno, we're trying to figure out options and what we can even do.
Here, have some pictures.

Mold will fuck your world up if it gets bad. Its incredibly hard and expensive to eradicate and the health issues it can cause would be constant and costly. Rip it all out. I dont know if you guys are in Houston or not, but I am and if you need help I'm available until Wednesday.
Glad everyone is OK, don't know what to say about the home. I hope something works out for you all.
How incredibly shitty. I really do hope that the government/someone/anyone steps in - otherwise, what, are millions of people going to be forced to just abandon entire cities, because they can't afford to fix the damage? Part of me thinks "this is America, we wouldn't let that happen."
But then again, this is America, and nothing surprises me anymore. Again, I really, really have my fingers crossed that you get help.
You will definitely want to get all of that flooring removed and you'll have to probably check your drywall too cause water damaged drywall is a haven for mold and that shit can cause major health issues.
