Oogh that time again?
Yis one month from now, October 4th, we're off biting the leaves again :D
Ding goes the microwave, let me serve you up this reheated bowl of copy pasta
What is Leafbiting? October 4th is World Animal Day, something that doesn't seem to be a very well known fact around the world X3. As my gesture towards all the tasty animals I love to eat so much, including fish and other seafood, I refrain from eating any meat for 2 months (until December 4th, my birthday). It helps me appreciate eating meats even more so, I think anyway.
Can I join? Yes! In fact, I see more and more people taking part in the biting of leaf every year.
How do I leafbite then? Starting the 4th of October, we all stop eating meat for any period of time up to 2 months. It sounds simple enough, but if you're not used to a vegetarian diet, you need make sure you properly substitute all the animal foodstuffs you cut out. Think of beans, soy products, eggs, nuts, mushrooms, cheese and other dairy, readily available meat substitutes are usually found in most supermarkets. It's a good idea to think ahead of time and plan the meals for your days/weeks/months of leafbiting, find vegetarian recipes from around the webz and ask your fellow leafbiters or vegetarians you know for suggestions.
It is IMPORTANT to
- make sure you eat properly, get all the nutrition you need. I can't say it enough, just leaving meat off of your plate isn't healthy. Talk to your roommates or parents if they're the ones usually cooking for you to see if they want to help you or even cook for you through this period.
- have fun! Don't suffer through meat withdrawal or malnourishment just for the sake of joining. If you don't know your limits, just go for a few days or maybe a week at the most to be sure you can handle it.
I'm already a vegetarian That's great! I hope you appreciate what we're trying to do here then, even though you can't really join.
I don't want to Leafbite That's fine. The reason I do this is BECAUSE I like eating meat after all, so I see where you're coming from. If you still want to do something for World Animal Day, you could spend the day spoiling your pets rotten, help out at your local animal shelter or give them a donation of pet foods or monies you can afford to give to charity, anything to show your love and support for the animals living with us on this planet :3
I think Leafbiting is stupid because *insert reasons* Honestly I've heard them all by now. Even so, if you really object to any of this or need to say something unproductive, send me a note instead. I want to keep this journal an encouraging environment for those that do want to join. I have had to block people before that didn't seem to understand this.
How do I join? Leave a comment on this journal, stating you want to join. Tell me for how many days you'd like to participate, anywhere from 1 day to 2 months (61 days). If you want, you can link to a vegetarian recipe you like and I'll put it next to your name on this journal :3 If your period overlaps with special holidays (like Thanksgiving or maybe family birthdays) and you don't want to put out your family by having them put out vegetarian meals for you, you can ask for a day of exempt. These days won't count towards your total, but at least you won't have to sit around people eating meat while you chew away on a salad.
Sign up and tell your friends :D Again I'm going to TRY post a recipe, like I promise and fail to deliver every year :'D Also to keep myself productive, I may nominate honorable leafbiters again, but no promises.

My current work situation has me working out in remote areas and often the food selection is .... extremely limited.
And im really not fond of working 13 hours and then starving because the only item on the menu is meat xD
IF it permits, and there is the option avaliable, i will try, for a week, but yeah, every chance i might not be able to
I think a month of doing it would be fun, but after two I'd probably get sloppy and it'd stop being fun. :p Already have a budget and ideas on what to make for the first week!
Will you be joining by the way?
Seriously though, I kinda already broke that rule today and I can't live without my meats anyway (most of the time) but I wish you and all participants luck on this event!
So yea, not only is this for supporting, but also a cause to help my liver and my kidneys get back into shape
Also, you're not frying your internal organs because of your usual diet do you...?
Only my liver since I'm making my enzymes apparently overwork themselves from drinking down copious amounts of high sugar drinks and a poor synthetic sugar diet (least that's what my mom says since apparently she thinks she knows more then doctors) but they said too much soda and not enough exercise/workout. So I'm trying to eat more healthy stuff and drink purely water, and the withdraws are killing me like hell xP
Maybe the Leaf Biting will make me feel better since it's got flavor in it
But yea sign me up Miss tasty Foshu, I wanna eat dem greens on the start day
Mah wings, I must have QwQ.
Maybe I can join next year? Or the year after that....
Or maybe in the next life, I dunno this willpower thing is tough to crack.
...Only for like, two days though; I'm not really confident in my chances of lasting longer than that o^o
Sign me up for the full tour. I plan to go all out in revamping my dishes and finding a solid chicken stock substitute this year.
Oh and feel free to pass on some recipes, I'm usually willing to try new stuff.
For stock, over here there's always veggie stock sitting next to chicken. Shoudn't be impossible to find I'm sure :3
I'll look into some recipes and let you know if I find anything of note. :>
Just hope I remember it on the 4th XD
I'll sign up for 61 days, if I may. Good luck.
2 maanden meneer muis?
I'm signing up.
Gave them a bottle of whup-ass for meddling in my diet, so I'm ready this time.
I'll try for a day to start. But what I'm really going to do is a marathon to see how long I can last.
Good luck to you and everyone else!
I already eat vegetarian once a week as part of my buddhist practices but I will be using this 2 month period to reflect on all those who give life so we may survive
If you want to join up for this year, I'll make a new journal as soon as I get home
