1- i like Ayn Rand's novels and there are many aspects of her philosophy that aren't just rape/conservatism that are nice such as individualism, artistic integrity, holding strong to your morals, being your own person, finding happiness on your own means, strive for the best, be self aware and honest, etc. (although in real life she really was a slutty bitch). a friend and i were talking once and it went like-- Me: "i just noticed that all the people i know who liek Ayn Rand aren't libertarians/objectivists." other guy: "lol, and all the people i know who are libertarians hate Ayn Rand." wheee.
2- i fucking hate the idea of liking things "ironically". a main measure of worth for movies/music/books/all-art for me is how sincere it is. like, even frank zappa and captain beefheart, when making ridiculous and funny songs, made it with sincere expression in mind.
3- i fear being pretentious.
4- i feel bad for not reading more than i do right now.
5- i often(read: always) lack the drive to get anything done.almost all of the time unless i get an outside push to do it.
6- i hate hate hate hate hate hate linda nochlin's essay "why there are no great women artists". bitch should go back to the kitchen.
7- i think i'm losing weight like i ran over a Gypsy lately, but instead of any sort of pride or good-feeling about it, i feel mostly just embarrassed and kind of just weirded out by it.
8- Ray Carney and Piero Scaruffi are sort of heroes of mine in a way.

Veckatimest (2009), by Grizzly Bear.
"With Veckatimest, Grizzly Bear has created a Pet Sounds for our generation; unfortunately, subsequent generations don't require superfluous revamps of existing albums that remain widely available" (line ripped off from Andrew Miller). 5/10.
Standout track: the only not-boring track, the strangely mesmerizing "Two Weeks".

GODDAMN
but yeah, dude in thinner runs over an old gypsy, rapidly loses weight by way of curse put on him by old gypsy's son.
in a way sometimes the message can be overlooked, i find, if there is a deep emotional portion to what's happening. like, let's say Type O Negative's Slow, Deep And Hard-- all the lyrics are completely sexist and sometimes unintentionally hilarious rants mostly because the lead singer just broke up with a longtime girlfriend... but the music is all performed with a great amount of emotional conviction and intensity and ingenuity. i generally find that someone has to be genuine and sincere in what they're doing in order to make something very original, too. then again, i also relate simple truths and pragmatic realism and emotional complexity as being original and philosophical depth myself... like, Bruce Springsteen with music or Gary Winnegrand with photography or John Cassavetes with film. highly original and yet don't have some giant amount of intellectual depth, so to speak, but have sincerity and emotional complexity and conviction.
sincerity is its own moral purpose, it's expressing you. that's life-affirming and idealogically interesting and revealing enough.
