Alot of tracing, copying, and reposting lately...
7 years ago
I'm not sure what is going on haha but a lot of my work is being traced, copied, or reposted without my permission lately.
Sharing my work is great as long as I receive credit along with the owner of the character (I realize sometimes finding the owner of a character can be hard if the artwork has been reposted elsewhere). Being on FA over the years, it has been harder to hunt down every single person as well as having the time to report on sites. I just feel bad because almost 90% of my work is commissioned therefore it's more their characters being misused. Of course there are some who offer commissions while tracing my work which is the biggest no-no on my list and those I will give time to hunt down and report.
This is just a friendly reminder that I do not allow tracing of my work and claiming it as your own. I can't control every repost but if you like to share my work, please credit me and if it's possible credit the owner of the character and do not claim the character as your own. I just find it odd I'm getting a weird amount of tracers and bad news in the past couple months... o_o;
Add on: I understand that most cases are younger people who can't afford art of their own or use the excuse "it's on the internet so it's free to use, right?"
I am okay with people being inspired by my art, and if they reference and make it their own or take elements and do their own thing, that is okay with me. Even tracing is a learning tool but when you post and give 0 credit and play it off like you drew it completely by yourself is when I have an issue with it. People are going to do what they will no matter what, but I just wanted to have this journal up for abit.

One girl on Facebook freaked out when she asked me if she could use it (she cut off your signature) and i flat out told her no.
I had a few people steal art of my old character and while I politely told them not to, they decided to make up excuses where they were the victim all along and they were "giving up art/being a furry forever".
Really fascinating how it is the same story over and over ^-^;
I think your art is amazing! And apparently so do others so maybe their logic is the phrase, "Imitation is the best form of flattery" haha.
I'm very disturbed at the common thievery and lack of originality in the art community these days. If I happen to see any obvious forgery of your images here on FA I'll be sure to let you know.
Whenever possible, when I repost things, I provide a link to the artist who drew it. I also credit the artist who drew it, and if I know who owns it, the owner as well.
Slugbox had some tracing an entire comic he did for his friend recently as well.
It's young people(many times grown ass folks) But it's still doesn't make it any less rude.
If I see anything I'll let ya know
Tbh it's extremely disrespectful. I've also gotten onto people who have just blatantly traced your work because that, in and of itself, is the lowest thing you can do to an artist. It's just pure laziness, plain and simple.
It is so sad that the kind of 'new' furries in the world thing that making furry repost accounts is okay without the express written consent and full credit of the artist. Not to mention I firmly believe the creator of the oc should be contacted as well. You could absolutely misrepresent the character by posting them under disgusting hashtags.
I actually suggested that Diana, the girl who commissioned one of the busts from you, have her username included within the work because I was almost positive it would be reposted on Instagram.
Maybe this is a way to counter this in the future?
It just sucks that people think tracing is a form of flattery and we as artists should be happy when our commissions are ripped off.
It blows my mind every time, lmao.
That being said...
What I cannot understand, nor can I respect or tolerate, is people tracing someone else's work and then posting it on an art site and pretending its theirs.
I mean, they should at least have the decency to credit the art its traced from.
what I doubly cannot tolerate and have contempt for, is motherfuckers tracing art for COMMISSIONS, that shit pisses me off.
1// Stealing is just never ok
and
2// If you're gonna take the piss and do it anyway, maybe do your research and don't steal from a well known artist.
But I guess these kids always assume they're the first ones to come up with the genious idea to steal art.
I just find it funny that thieves are more offended that they were caught and pointed out... I have two who use/traced the art I commissioned from you. People with their mind make me fear to publish any new commissions or else they’ll be like falvie’s customers commissions.
Thieves only feel bad for themselves, not others.
But then again, that was more for some 10-year-old kid ending up with something clearly expensive and back then, it was the leading joke in the 90's.
I got thefted on the image I got from you which I also had permission to colour in, somebody just traced the head out of my female char, and made a banner on a french furry RP site and claimed art and character as theirs. Took it down once me and another artist confronted them, they said they were sorry, yet they go and use others characters again, which didn't surprise and only made their sorry so much more empty... <_>
I don't get why it's hard to just cred a artist for their splendid work, not so long ago I read a article how it helped a freelance artist get a job-opportunity at some big company, thanks to a person who posted their art actually gave credit and links to the artists official pages.
And to just respect peoples wishes not to use their characters, is apparently too much to ask for too x.x
One guy took headshots you did from your tumblr, removed the signature and claimed it was their.
Some guys even bidded to have art from that guy... scammer
I did report him though
