I'm a Zebra and other Sundry News
So according to my daughter the other day, I'm a Zebra now. The conversation in my car went like this.
"And you are a Zebra!"
"I am? But I don't feel like a Zebra? Do I have Stripes?"
"Yes!"
"Do I have hooves?"
"Yes!"
"Do I have a tail?"
"Yes!"
"Do I have a horsey face?"
"Yes!"
"Well, I guess I must be a Zebra then."
I'm sure this change will last for a few days before my daughter decides I have become something else. This is not a common occurrence mind you but not altogether unprecedented. I'm sure it would make a fun little TF-comic if I could afford to pay for it, so for now it will abide here where I can look back and fondly remember the time she turned me into a Zebra.
In other news I'm behind again on everything. Lent is here tomorrow and I've no idea what I'm going to be doing to try and keep it better. I should give up reading Politics because it doesn't really do any good; it just gives me a pretense of being more in-the-know but all it really does is puff me up or get me angry; it exacerbates my emotions and rarely helps. SO that would be a good thing to get away from. But I want to do more than give something up, I want to pick something up too; I want to do something more that I haven't been doing. Other than additional spiritual reading or praying I'm not sure what that will be yet.
I am looking forward to attending Furnal Equinox next month. I've got some great roommates this year and I know we're going to have a fantastic time together. I'm still trying to figure out what sort of sketches I want to get. I'll think of something.
I just finished reading "Calculating the Cosmos" by Ian Stewart. Mostly a good book which focuses on Mathematics contributions to Cosmology. I think his criticisms of the Fine-Tuning arguments miss the mark and are deceptive in other ways but overall it was a good read. I was delighted to see him mention one of the newly discovered answers to the riddle of why the arms of Galaxies move so fast; Dark Matter was theorized to make up for the lack of sufficient Mass the theory required. New mathematical work shows that the model missed out on the effect of stars tugging each other along (because the N-body problem is hard) and so we don't need to postulate Dark Matter to explain the rotation of galaxies; I was especially delighted by this because I'd read about the work in SIAM last year; if I was doing any other sort of work than what I'm doing, this would be what I'd want it to be.
I am looking forward to warmer weather in a couple of months so I can go out riding my bike again. Man do I miss that.
Angie got a two-foot tall Tyrannosaurus Rex from my sister last week. It's her favorite dinosaur she said; my Triceratops self (when I'm not a Zebra) would shed a tear at this news. She's named him Tyler Kadin; better than Tyler Durden at any rate (though that would make a cool picture).
So much going on and so much to be grateful for! Life is truly amazing. Have a great day and a great Lent everyone!

People ask me if I have heard of this event, or that event, and I usually say no, and I am happier and less worried because of it... The Bible tells us to think on the good things...

Although I could definitely be a Zebra-taur.

In my second werewolf novel it's actually a line of dialogue that there's a pamphlet. :)

If I do go, I'll only be able to be there for a few hours Saturday night. Unfortunately, I can't take time off work to go for longer, since no one can cover for me.

By the way: I got you a CD-DVD set of some works by an interesting experimental Canadian composer, Nicole Lizée. She works extensively with the faults inherent in ageing analog audio & audio-visual media — pairing these "glitches" with musical instruments produces a phantasmagoria of strange, entrancing, unsettling compositions.
Some of her stuff is also on YouTube. One of her more recent orchestral works, "Bondarsphere", dedicated to astronaut and teacher Roberta Bondar, involves extensive visual effects like holograms, and another work, "Black Midi", includes a full video specifically to be played alongside it.
