Cruel Fate
I may be a bit quiet for a few days . . . I'll be lurking, but probably won't have much to say.
A couple of years ago I had to move on no notice from the Midwest back to Massachusetts, and I had to give up my dogs: a dwarf lab named Falcor, and an older malamute named Tanis. I cried for weeks. Hell, it's years later and I still cried thinking of those two.
Well, now I'm back out here and have been for some time, Yesterday, not five minutes before I put up that joke journal, I got a call from work. The Humane Society had called to let me know that Tanis was in there and up for adoption.
He is soooooo thin, and he's very old now . . . he's always been a "runner" (we were well aware of that and always kept him tied when outside) and apparently the owner got tired of you know, having to have a dog license and having to take two seconds to make sure he was secure, and feeding him, and all that. He got one too many "dog at large without rabies tag" tickets and surrendered him.
And we can't adopt him back. We can't have dogs where we live, and you can't hide a, when at full weight, 110 pound malamute.
*sighs sadly* Anyone in Minnesotta, the Dakotas, northern nebraska, or northwest Iowa want the worlds best dog?
Thanks for the favs and all the corny jokes and watches and such, but I'm just not in much of a chatty mood right now.

I'll post something tomorrow in a Journal, see what I can do to pass on the word
I am very sorry for what has happened to your loved one. They are more like human to me than most people.
I can not help, due to being in an appartment and being at school.
I do wish you the best of luck however, for both of you.

That is so sad to hear, it upsets me that anyone could neglect another living being like that :(
May someone with a heart give him a loving home. Good luck to him!
I will post this to my livejournal.
Please please please post this story on Dogster.com! If you don't know of it already, it's a forum site to talk about dogs and post pictures of your dog and such.
Some of them get a little bit *cough* passionate when it comes to certain topics (like puppy mills and stuff) but they are, for the most part, good eggs, and the reason I mention it is because there are a TON of rescue people! They do foster work, and there is even a special forum for the "dogster railroad" which is a network of people from all over who volunteer their time to drive dogs in need of saving from Point A to Point B.
Even if you don't find someone who will immediately say "dear gosh, I'll take him!" and then drives three states over to get him and whisks him into a world of light and love and lavished affections (that's not an exaggeration, I've seen it happen!), what you WILL get is a lot of well-wishes, suggestions of people to call, and maybe even people who will foster even if they don't outright adopt him, and drivers from the railroad if the distance is great.
Please post it there, in the adoption forum and the shelter/rescue forum, oh I just KNOW somebody will help your special guy! Would you like me to post it with my username? Eponine (a Papillon) is me and I'll do it for you if you can't figure the site out (but since you get FA I bet you'll have no trouble on your own).
*love and luck!*
Our dogs aren't small, either...2 year old German Shepherd, and two puppies [rough collie and lab/heeler mix], so I don't know how well they'd be able to compete for space when the pups grow up. :/ I want a husky so badly, though.
I really hope you find someone to take him, he sounds wonderful. Good luck.

That should help get you started. Good luck.
How would you ship a dog?
>^..^<
My heart goes out to you and your wuff- you know where I am if ya need to talk! :)
I can make some calls and see what is up with the family.......
That being said, I would seriously suggest contacting the shelter back and explaining the situation (if you haven't already) and getting ahold of rescue groups. There are a ton of animal rescue groups specializing in particular breeds that will safely transport your sweet baby to a prescreened loving home anywhere in the country. Also try and talk to the landlord and see if you can house him there temporarilly (couple weeks to a month) so you can help nurse him back to health and get him to his new home. Most landlords can be pretty reasonable, especially if you are in good standing with them. From the above replies I saw a couple good suggestions and two possible homes close enough to you for you to take him over yourself.
Best of luck to you and your sweet baby, Tanis.
So sorry to hear about this tensik.. Just hang in there, and hopefully things will sort themselves out. <3 Seems like you need this for the time being. *hugs*

if he was in GA i would take him right now
my boy wants a malamute
i'm so sorry...
This dog is family. YOU have to adopt him back. Don't leave him there another day. Go get him. Find a place for him to live if you have to, but don't leave him there.
