Hello everyone!
I'm fully rested and I can now talk about my first experience at AnE.
THURSDAY:
I entered the convention on Thursday in hopes to get my pre-reg badge early. I waited in the lobby for a few friends when someone saw my artwork and was interested in hiring me to create and design their company mascot for KarChing, an app that rewards young drivers for driving safely. My friend,
reimaru-kun, who was there at the time, is a business investor and he too was interested in the idea. I also spoke to another furry artist (whose name escapes me right now ) who goes to the same college as I did with the same animation teachers. Gave him some advice about separating his furry art from his school portfolio because "furry artists have no future" said my teachers years ago. I hung out with Rey and his fiancee
mykul until pre-reg opened, but I had to catch the last bus to Chestnut hill, so I had to leave without my badge.
FRIDAY:
Came back early in the morning to catch some breakfast with Rei, Mykul, and
sofur. Went to get my badge and con book. I was also treated to the dealer's room before it opened. Dropped off a few badges and dropped off an original piece for the charity auction. Me and my friends stuck together throughout the convention. The dealer's was nice - small but nice. The only thing that urked me was the fact that half the room was promoting porn. The FIRST THING you saw when you entered the dealers was the companion pillows with femboy characters with very large bulges. I saw many new artists that I haven't seen before and stuck to them:
nyomi, Reflium ( on twitter ), SleepingFox ( on DA ), TallyDragon (DA ), Samneukirch ( Twitter ),
cadmiumtea, and
thelivingshadow in the Artist Alley. Spent more money that I should have since the CAD to USD is very bad right now, but I got something for everyone.
Being just an attendee was odd since I didn't have the obligation to work behind a table and I could go anywhere. But most of the panels at the con didn't appeal to me except one. I went to go to the Sketchbook Swap, hosted by
daturathewolf and Nicnarko44. Had fun and drew in a few random sketchbooks. I didn't leave my FA or Twitter on those illustrations, but part of me didn't care. I was sitting in front of two annoying people thought. Every book they took, they would talk to each other about the art in it. They were giving unneeded critiques to the artwork and even talked about mine, saying it was "one of those round chibies styles. Boring." They did this for a full hour...
SATURDAY:
Warm as hell outside ( well to me ). I was sweating even though people said it was cold. 40f degrees is SUMMER for us Canadians. Traveled to the dealers and met up with friends. Decided to go to the Zoo to draw. I did bump into
ECMajor and hung out with him ( I'm a big fan of his art and he is a very nice person! ) Had sushi lunch with friends and traveled back to the hotel. I managed to draw some fursuits here and there, but not a lot. I should think of doing a panel where fursuiters would come and I would draw them for a set amount of time. In the style of my OTS commissions.
There were a lot of interesting fursuits and seeing kids their their over sized fursuit heads running around and being cute was to die for! I'm very happy to see more kids are entering and enjoying the fandom!
Met more old friends at the convention
fluffyredpanda and his boyfriend Daniel The Lion. Did a lot of catching up and it was great to talk to them again! It has been over 6 years since the last time we spoke.
SUNDAY:
Last day was a half a day for me. Hung out with all my friends and had a good lunch. Afterwards, I went to the Dealer's and Artist Alley to gather my commissions before going to my friend Ben's open stage music performance.
The next day, I had to get up at the crack ass of the morning in order to catch the 7am greyhound bus back to Montreal. The dumb driver forgot to close the baggage doors under the bus after leaving the border. I had to rush over to tell him. Thankfully, everyone's bags were still on the bus. Weather was terrible when we came back as a large snowstorm hit us. Thankfully, we still got to Montreal earlier than expected.
And that was it. The convention was great. A lot of friendly people there. One Amber Alert though but they found the child the same day. Soryane and I might go next year for a table. We are not sure. We need to look into the Mass Tax situation since Soryane is not a US citizen and I am ( which means I might get double taxed due to the fact that I live abroad ). We will keep everyone up to date. Definatly want to go there again!
Now, I'm going to catch up on Bdge pre-orders. Two weeks until Funral Equinox and I need to start getting myself prepared. The ONLY commissions I will be opening will be my ON THE SPOT COMMISSIONS. They will ONLY be open when I stream. So if anyone is interested, hit me up when I stream.
Thank you very much AnE and everyone there! I had a blast!
