I wasn't aware that this was something people saw as negative, I've never had that happen before.

I saw some posts on twitter bashing those 4 words and I sat here baffled.

i honestly don't see nothing wrong with it ?, that's how i ushally start a conversation with new people sometimes

Apparently some popular folks don't like getting those 4 words and I'm wondering "What the fuck is wrong with it?"

As someone who was once extremely shy and found it difficult to even say hello to new people, I appreciate it when someone tries to extend that friendly sort of greeting. What gets my gears grinding is when after that they say nothing. Like I’m all for conversations but Imm the kind of person who wont come up with a topic if someone else engaged. It’s probably why I seem so quiet as I usually dont chat unless I really have something to talk about. I dunno socializing is weird but it’s always nice to see people making an effort to be friendly

Nothing wrong with being shy. Just how some people are and Im sure they'll open up sooner or later and hell, that person may become a good friend in the end.

Ha! that's how my chats with my brother go before we play games and VC, it's usually that a bit of small talk then onto some conversation or things that happened during the day. but yeah totally it's not a bother, just move on from it.

Yeah, I have been to multiple chats where those words "Hi, how are you?" are usually in the "NO" sections or whatever related to such.
Nearly 15 years in the community and I -still- often end up being to shy most times to communicate with people and things like this don't help.

I have to assume that what they meant was receiving DM’s from total strangers that they they’ve never met before saying “Hi” or “Hey how are you”. Getting something like that unexpectedly can be a bit off-putting, especially if you’re wary of meeting new people.

If they were referring to the words themselves then yeah I’ve got no clue. But my guess is that they were more referring to that type of situation.

The world is full of mingey little idiots, who think a greeting is too standard for their "accentuated tastes". Piss on em. People should greet in the way they feel is most comfortable, and the standard is simple: "hi how are you?".

I think a lot of the stigma against it isn't so much because "How are you?" is bad itself, but because it's often followed by a conversation that amounts to a waste of time. >w>

Most of the time, when a conversation with someone new online starts with "How are you?", it's a sign they don't really have any shared interest to discuss with you, which means the conversation goes belly-up very quickly and neither party really gets anything out of it other than saying "I had a conversation with my furry senpai who has 4000 followers!"

It doesn't always go that way of course. Sometimes "How are you?" really is just an easy opening line for someone who's very shy, and I've met nice people who started conversations that way, which is why I always give "How are you?"s a chance. But in the majority of cases, "How are you?" has effectively been a red flag if it's not immediately followed by something more engaging. ^^;;

I can understand both sides, honestly. On one hand, I've had countless types of those furries DM me and start off with that, then proceed toask for RP in the next sentance. Ya know the kinds, the ones that fuck off after you tell them "Sorry, I don't RP with strangers."

On the other hand, it's kinda unfair to generalize everyone that's using those four words as nothing but a cumbrain, some doods are just anxious and nervous, and dunno how to start a convo off

I suspect part of the problem, and I've had this happen before, is this:

"Hi! How are you?"

"Fine, thanks. How are you?"

"Good........................................................................................................................................................................................"

"That's good. Anything going on you are interested in discussing?"

[End of chat, never to hear from the other user again]

Eventually, that happens enough that those simple four words become annoying to see, as one already knows where the chat will lead.

Don't take it too hard. There are some people out there who don't know how to be polite, respectful, nice/kind, and/or neighbourly towards other people. There are those who try to make a friendly phrase or greeting offensive just to start bad drama. Good thing there more people who do then don't. Hope the rest of your day is great.

Oh, it's not me who getting hated from it. I see posts around social media of the fur fandom with people hating those 4 letter words.

That's everywhere nowadays. Don't know why. All I can recommend anyone is to stay away from those kind of people the best you can.

Yeah I don't see much wrong with that phrase. It's just a friendly greeting to a potential new friend. You greet them and ask how they are feeling; where's the negativity?

Oh yeah, I've seen some people here doing that, and heard about this before. It's like "Can you be more original with presentations, please?" The hell you want them to say? I think a "Hello buddy!" or a "Hi, how are you?" even a "Greetings" It's completely acceptable, it is indeed better than saying as first thing "Vore me daddy owo" or similar. I usually come across with some shy people who says that same phrase and I don't have problem, I understand they need more self-confidence and the best way to help them is being nice with them, not saying ruck off only because he introducted the wy you didn't want to. Every person is different and will introduce in very different ways, so as long as it's not an offensive way, you must accept it instead of complaining.
