Good evening
Do not adjust your set. It is not Sacred_Jellyfish this evening, it is Pascal Farful again to cover for Jellyfish tonight! Ah, remember the winter nights of 2016, we feared they would last forever...
Welcome to 2020, a year which already feels like a meme, but is time's gift to the vapourwave and synthwave amoung you. Thus, the period of 2020 does make big, bold questions about "future tech". Smarthouse may be coming true and it's just as terrifiying as we all thought at the time, but what about musical future works?
The first thing that comes to mind is the updated idea for the new Musical Instrument Digital Interface 2.0 specifications, or, for the sake of dabbing on it and sticking down some emoji, let's call it MIDI 2.
Incidently if you google "MIDI" to work out what it stands for, google helpfully clarifies that it is a "a woman's calf-length skirt, dress, or coat." So that's what that slot in the back of your KORG is. Nice.
Ultimately, what MIDI 2 is going to allow is more numbers. Your standard MIDI has 16 channels of information, this new version will supposedly have 256. In addition, 32-bit resolution and ethernet integration through UDP... which basically means you can do a whoooooooooooooooooole lotta stuff with MIDI 2. The 32 bit part is particularly of note. Origionally MIDI was specified to 7 bits of 4esolution which meant you could adjust the velocity of every note, the speed of every note, etc, between 0 and 128, but with 32 bit, you can adjust them between 0 and deep breath 4'294'967'296... which is kinda neato I guess.
This is just MIDI 2, which was specified earlier this year, but it might well be the beginning of a great deal more technologies. I also saw someone doing a collaboration on a collaborative DAW called Ohm Studio with their audience which was very cool. I mean, it turned into a trainwreck, but it does mean that collaborative music making in the fully digital realm is, at the very least, possible. That sounds pretty damn swish too!
2020, a year of many things. Opportunities, technologies, and most of all, memes.
So, with that in mind...

Appreciate the shoutout but it's not my album. It's a compilation of artists on the label. I'm just featured on it.
